MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: USS Elysium, Sickbay
Timeline: (Before the mass exodus from Elysium to Planet P)
528 words - 1.1 OF Standard Post Measure
For the next couple of hours, Liam slept and Samaire stayed by his side, as the Elysium's medical staff moved about helping others in need. It seemed that there was no end to the injured. If it could be considered merciful, most of the dead never made it Sickbay. They were either sucked into space through hull breaches, or killed instantly by internal explosion and debris.
Finally, Liam started to move to again. "Hey…" he said in a weak, scratchy voice.
“Hey” Samaire said softly from where she was sitting. She edged closer to him. “How are you feeling?”
"Better, now that you're here, my love." Though his voice was still very rough, it did sound a little stronger than earlier. "How long was I out?"
"A couple of hours. But you needed sleep and rest." Samaire replied softly. "We are evacuating the ship in the next few days."
"Eva-evacuating…where?" Liam asked softly, worry starting to fill his voice. He hadn't been told the whole truth of the ship's situation. "To other…Starfleet vessels?"
She shook her head. “No... we don't have that luxury. It's bad Liam, we are in another galaxy.”
Hearing those words from his wife caused Liam to furrow his brows and look at her as if he didn't understand. "What…what do you mean?? How?!" His voice squeaked painfully as he replied, his anxiety starting to rise.
She gently squeezed his bandaged hand, being careful not to hurt him any. “Do not worry about that. You need to heal then we can get to what happened. No one is at fault it was a freak accident."
Hearing her soothing voice put Liam at ease. He finally nodded slowly. "Okay, you win. I'll rest." He gave her the best lop-sided grin he could muster, between the pain of his body and the low level of medication that could be spared to help in his recovery.
“Good because we need you, Skylah and I. We need you well and back with us.”
Liam smiled warmly up at his wife. "It's gonna take more than some burns to free you from me, my love."
"I hope so." Samaire whispered. "You scared me Liam. Skylah too."
His smile waned quickly as he responded. "I'm sorry, my love. I-I couldn't stand by and not keep our little girl safe!" Tears started to well up in his exposed eye.
"I know and I thank you for that."
He closed his eye, squeezing out the tears that had started to form at the corners of it.
Samaire touched his face gently. "Liam, we are safe. Do not worry ok?"
Feeling Samaire's soft touch on his face calmed Liam. He gently leaned into her touch and opened his eye to look up at her. "I love you, wife."
"I love you husband," she smiled. "Now get better."
"Working on it, sweetheart." Liam replied softly. "I have to build our girl a tree house, remember?"
"And you will" Samaire replied softly. "You will."
He smiled again, then closed his eye. He was feeling tired and needed to rest more. "I love you..." he said as he drifted back off to sleep.
