Assessing the Damage

The Spheia had seen better days. The vessel, resembling a very narrow trapezoidal shape, had a piece of black metal sticking out of the port side. Part of the fin was mangled, but the bulk of the damage was to the propulsion system, a cylindrical shape next to the body of the craft. Teevs sighed as he stood outside the craft, taking in the damage.

While he'd largely be relegated to diplomatic duties since his promotion from his homeworld, Staff Warrant officer Reo'Thanra Sandtail still found himself having to pull engineering supplemental duties with the Elysiums. But with so many repairs needed to the stricken Federation ship, He couldn't find himself complaining with the extra work to keep him from he diplomats Table. He tapped a few commands into his armors wrist comp as he looked over the damaged ship in the Shuttle bay, admiring its alien lines while rather brazenly scanning it.

Wanting a better view, Teevs began to walk around the ship. He knew his rescuers didn't have the resources to repair his vessel, and he insisted that he could manage his own repairs so as not to burden them. It didn't stop the Elysium crew from doing their own inspections of the vessel, and he considered it an acceptable compromise as long as they didn't rip apart the ship. He ducked under the wing, only to stop when he nearly ran into... a creature? No, the creature was wearing a uniform... was this another crewmember? "Hello there," he said, unsure of what to think of the being in front of him. "Is there anything I can assist you with?"

The Alien gazed up at Him, its long tail swaying slowly. While it was dressed in something that resembled the standard Traditional Star Fleet uniform, His own uniform more closely resembled Environmental battle armor then a simple utilitarian uniform. "Good Afternoon," He said, his voice soft, pleasant , and richly accented, though it was dragged down by a telltale hint of hissing artifacts from the ships Universal translator at the ends of certain Vowels. "I was actually hoping to assist you sir," The young Warrant officer said with a warm, easy smile. "I'm one of Elysiums...engineering crew," he said, and without much of a lie to his words either. "I was told your ship was having some propulsion issues?"

Ah, so this was a crewmember. Teevs glanced to the side, at the remnants of the wing creating a sort of broken arch for creatures to wander under. "To call it 'some issues' might be an understatement," he replied, returning his attention to the engineer. "The debris I hit got into the left engine. It will be harder to repair. The right engine overloaded from trying to compensate." He ran a hand through his hair, " I have some replacement parts, but I'd have to trade for the rest."

The Diminutive alien nodded in understanding, his large ears twitching about as he listened to this. "And... your ships engines...are they impulse? or similar in nature to impulse?" he asked. "I'm sure i could craft enough parts to fully replace your ship twice over once we get the OK to start fabrication if it is fairly similar to our own technology."

Teevs' brow furrowed at this "impulse" question, uncertain of what exactly this term was. The question related to engines, however, which narrowed down the possibilities. "My ship can travel at sub-light and at light speeds. Would looking at the systems through my ship's computer help determine if our technology is compatible?"

"It certainly would, though I'd hate to force entry to the ship without your permission there," he Said with a smirk, bringing his left arm up so he could tap a few commands onto the computer mounted on the inside of his wrist. "So..how about you walk me trough accessing your ships command systems?"

"Certainly," Teevs answered with a smile. He provided the information needed to connect a foreign device to the computer and how to access certain things. "You may want to install the linguistics file first. Almost every ship out here has one, and it's used to facilitate communications by providing the computer with basic information about a species' language."

"Oh? more then a Universal Translator is able to provide?" the diminutive alien said with a tilt of his head as he slowly started to parse the Ships computer to an isolated processor.

"More like it would be a supplement to your translator," Teevs explained. "Some species don't have good translators, and this is a common workaround. Though your ship's computer seems to be doing well. It should be one of the first files your device sees once you connect."

Reo'thanra hummed to himself and started up the connection, his tail swaying as he worked. "So...the species out here...What are they all like?" he asked softly. "Like...tech wise I mean.., anyone on par with the Federation?"

Teevs thought for a moment. He had gotten a little more familiar with the Elysium, to the extent that the ship's computer would let him. "Many species out here have faster than light speed. Holographic technology is also common. Your replicating devices are less common, though, and are typically only seen at spaceports or trading centers."

The Short alien gave a soft hum and a nod. "Well, I'll see what I can do to, no promises though," he said with chuckle.
