Location: Sickbay

523 words - 1 OF Standard Post Measure

Gary continued to recuperate in sickbay but at night he was plagued by
strange dreams. The latest was the old Terry Gibbs song with certain changes.
supplied by his own mind. It featured A familiar face as the devil who was doing a wonderful job of tempting him.

Somebody's knockin'
Should I let her in?
Lord, it's the Devil
Would You look at her?
I've heard about her
But I never dreamed
She'd have blue eyes and blue jeans
Well, somebody's talkin'
She's whispering to me
"Your place or my place
Well, which will it be?"
I'm gettin' weaker
And she's comin' on strong
But I don't wanna go wrong
She must have tapped my telephone line
She must have known I'm spendin' my time alone
She says, "We'll have one heavenly night"
My fever's burnin', so she oughta be right at home
Somebody's knockin'
Should I let her in?
Lord, it's the Devil
Would You look at her?
I've heard about her
But I never dreamed
She'd have blue eyes and blue jeans
Uhm-uhm, she must have tapped my telephone line
She must have known I'm spendin' my time alone
She says, "We'll have one heavenly night"
My fever's burnin', so she oughta be right at home
somebody's knockin'
Somebody's knockin'
Ooh, somebody's knockin'
Well, somebody's knockin'
Somebody's knockin' (somebody's knockin')
Ohh, somebody's knocking

As the song ended. Gary lay smiling on the bio bed, wondering if it would really be so bad to just give in and go with the devil. Leave the trouble and strife behind and for a bit he was tempted but then he stopped, He was no quitter. He had never run from a challenge, and he wouldn't start now. Not even if it meant delaying a reunion with Catlin. The devil be damned, she would just have to wait. He turned his mind inward to look at the gifts he had. There was of course Lia and little Lia. Both of whom filled his life with such joy and happiness. There was Tate who had helped him so immensely after his return from the Romulan prison. There was Rin, with her steady unwavering support and friendship. Of course he couldn't forget Kyle. The man had turned into a good friend. Of course there was Phoenix who was an excellent starship commander and despite a few dustups between them, he still looked upon her has a good and trusted friend. The same held true for Alicia and her support. Most recently involving little Lia. She was so giving. He wished he could bottle her concern. Nor could he forget the CMO. The Gorn was an amazing doctor and his for his patients was unrivaled.

There was also the Elysium crew. He counted every one of them a friend. For the Elysium in realty was a large extended family. Oh, there were arguments, disagreement but when it came to crunch time the crew came together and worked as one to accomplish whatever the task before them was.

No, the devil would just have to bide her time. He wasn't ready to say goodbye and leave this world behind.
