Andrinn was sitting in his apartment in San Francisco when his computer terminal began beeping. Activating it, Andrinn saw that it was a message from his mother and he opened it, excited about what was going on in the life of his family back home on Trill. However, once he opened it, Andrinn knew that his world was about to change.

Once he opened the message, the face of his mother, Emory, came onto the screen and Andrinn could instantly tell that she had been crying. She looked straight into the screen and said, “I’m sorry to call you Andrinn, but I need you back home on the Trill homeworld. I don’t want to tell you over subspace, but all I can say is that your family needs you back home.”

Andrinn could feel the words as they came out of his mother’s mouth. He knew that he would have to get a ride back home to Trill with the Vulcans, but he wasn’t sure about who to ask for said ride. Andrinn decided that he would head over to the Vulcan embassy and ask to speak to one of the Vulcan ambassadors there, especially since he had been helping them mediate issues between them and the Humans on Earth.

Andrinn quickly swapped out of his evening wear and into something more formal for the Vulcans before heading out of his apartment. It wasn’t a long walk from his apartment over to the Vulcan compound and before long, Andrinn was sitting and waiting for the most senior Vulcan diplomat to come out to talk to him.

It felt like an eternity before the diplomat came out. During that time, Andrinn was an emotional mess and wasn’t sure what was going back home to warrant his mother to basically recall him to the Trill homeworld. Most of the time, Andrinn’s parents would call him or leave him messages, asking how things were going on Earth. But, that was something missing from this message as well. Andrinn’s father, Endrin, wasn’t in this message. Had something happened to his father that made it where Andrinn had to go home? Was he sick or dying?

Andrinn wasn’t sure, but by the gods themselves, he would make it home to figure out what it was.

A moment later, a young Vulcan man came out and introduced himself to Andrinn as Tuvon, a junior Vulcan diplomat. Once they exchanged pleasantries, Andrinn went straight to the point and said, “I require a leave of absence and a ride back home to the Trill homeworld. My mother left me a rather cryptic message about requiring me back home.”

Tuvon looked at Andrinn with a raised eyebrow and asked, “Why would we grant such a request? Even as you said, your mother didn’t specify why you would be required back home, but requested that you come home immediately.”

Andrinn just looked at the young man and said, “I think it has to do with my father. Whenever I get a message from back home, he’s always in it with my mother. But, this time, he wasn’t in it. So, I’m thinking that it might be something about him. My mother is probably trying to spare my feelings or something, but it’s only making things worse. So, would there be any way that I might be able to get on the next transport out of here and get back to my homeworld? Please…”

Tuvon simply turned around and waited for a moment before replying, “There’s a transport ship leaving one of the Earth's spacedock locations in orbit in about two hours. If you can get up there in time, we’ll take you back home. Would that be suitable?”

Andrinn ran over and hugged the Vulcan, which instantly made the Vulcan uncomfortable. Andrinn replied while still hugging Tuvon, “Yes, that would be perfect! Thank you very much for helping me out with that!”

Andrinn let out of the hug and Tuvon replied, “Anything to help out a fellow diplomat. Just make sure that you send the Vulcan embassy a message about when you intend on returning, as your skills are needed here on Earth.”

Andrinn nodded simply as he wiped away a tear and said, “You’ve got it Tuvon. I’ll send one as soon as I get back to my homeworld and let you guys know what’s going on.” With that, Andrinn ran out of the complex and began making arrangements to get to the Vulcan vessel with a human pilot.
