Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Medbay
Timeline: The past.
1047 words - 2.1 OF Standard Post Measure

The sound of a new shift echoed through sickbay as the ship's MD whistled to himself as he hung his lab coat on the back of his door. Pulling his coffee flask from his belt he poured himself a large coffee before sitting down to deal with he breakfast platter in front of him. It didn't take long before he polished off his breakfast and was pressing the button letting the nurse on reception that he was ready for his first patient of the day.

It took alot to get Anna to tear away from work. She was always doin something, working near nonestop, a ball of energy. So when she had to report to sickbay, it took her just as long.

She pads into sickbay in uniform, rumpled, her lab coat in a similar state. She wasn't wearing shoes which was ok, as she was wearing the skirt uniform instead of trousers.

"Dr. Sthilg, I presume. I'm Anna-Lee McEntryre."

" Welcome." Sthilg said as he offered his hand. " Here for your checkup?"

Anna shakes his hand.

"Yes, Sir. I think we've may have met before, through my brother, J.R., at the Casperia Confrence about three years back"

" Dr. J.R. McEntyre? How he doing?" the lizard enquired as he gestured for her to take a seat on the office biobed.

Anna hops up onto the biobed.

“Last I spoke to him, he was on the Columbia as Assistant Chief Medical Officer.”

She smiles as she sits on the biobed, dangling her legs back and forth softly

" That'sss good to hear." The gorn replied. The man was a talented young doctor who would go far. " What about yourself any injuriesss or illnessssss not on file sssince your last checkup? " He enquired.

“Nothing of note”

She replies as she softly smiles at the gorn. She was glad that she at least had a friend on Elysium

" That'sss good." the doc added as he jotted something down on the computer. " Jussst lay back and I'll get the ssscssscanner up and running."

Anna lays down on the biobed, hands on her belly as she let the doctor work, softly breathing.

Sthilg started up the scanner. " Ssso anything you plan to work on whilssst on the ssship?" he enquired.

“Possibly working on figuring out why everyone is having these nightmares. Possibly some coding work on the main computer core”

Anna rambles on as Sthilg runs the scanner.

" I think we could all do with a good night sssleep." The gorn replied. Heaven forbid what lack of sleep would do for his people in an emergency

“I probably could do with more sleep in general. I tend to always be running that I don’t sleep well and then that messes with my body and then I crash and then forget what day it is.”

Anna rambled again

" We could all do with more sssleep. " The doctor he looked over the results of the scan. " Other than the lack of sssleep i don't sssee anything here that won't allow me to declare you fit for duty."

Anna smiles at him.

“Well at least we know I’m healthy. That’s a good thing”

" It is indeed. Is there anything else you like to talk about?" Sthilg enquired as he handed her a memory crystal with a copy of the results.

Anna sinks into the bed, staring at the ceiling.

"Doc...I do have something else, if you're willing to listen."

" Go ahead my dear. You have nothing to fear in here." Sthilg replied as reassuringly as he could.

“Doc I’ve been doing a lot of thinking as of late. Everyone seems to be trying to make a life since we’re decades or centuries away from home, having children and families…Doc, I want to try to have a baby.”

Anna says with a serious tone.

“It’s something that I always thought I have time for once my life was settled and such, but with Earth and home a distant memory, I don’t think I can wait any longer.”

She turned her head to look at Sthilg.

“And I have put serious thought into this, a long time now, since I was a little girl. Not that I’ve ever expressed it to my family, but I’ve always had that longing to be a mother, it’s something that always been at the back of my mind.”

" I sssee." The gorn replied calmly. " Well it'sss nothing i can't do,but given the current circumstances, I will need you to have a psssychological evaluation to before we can begin treatment?"

“If that’s necessary, I can.”

Anna says a bit…deflated

" It isss I'm afraid. It will be alright. I know what'sss it'sss like to want a child." The gorn resured her.

Anna sits up, pulling her legs up to her chest.

“Doc, it’s not like I’m going into this on some sort of whim. I’ve thought about this for a long time and as a software engineer, most of what I do can be done anywhere on this ship and one handed if I have too.”

Anna looks at Sthilg again with that look of deep wanting.

“I know that it seems like an odd request, but I want a child more than anything else. This choice was easier than the decision to whether or not to even go for my doctorate. By comparison, this was a cakewalk.”

" And i will do everything to help you my dear, but i do need i psych evaluation before we can ssstart treatment. I'm sssssure you'll pass. Would you like to discusssss the treatment in the mean time?" he added.

Anna nods

“I’d would like that a lot. What kind of treatments would you recommend?”

She asks curiously

" Well, asss i take it you don't have a donner we'll have to replicate a DNA ssstrand from the ssship'sss data banksss. When we have a replicated ssstrand i can inject it into an egg either one of your own or an artificial one. Then we can either implant it into your own womb or an artificial one." The lizard explained with the tone of someone who had done this so often he could do it in his sleep.
