The village was under siege. Not by marauding barbarians, but by its own citizens. At least, the ones that were genetically modified that is. A full armored division, supported by four battalions of infantry and a brigade of air power, all manned by augments and those loyal to them, had been tearing through the once quiet farmlands of Germany, making their way towards France and the British Isles. NATO forces had been fighting valiantly to stop their advance, but, this far had only slowed it some.
It was enough of a delay, however, to allow more allied forces to reach the area. Currently, three infantry battalion of the 101st Airborne Division, supported by their various Forward Support Battalions, had managed to dig in to the farmland and forests surrounding the city of Hamburg, its ancient castle standing resolute at their backs, as they awaited the arrival of their new enemy.
In town, David was busy getting his gun truck into position, ensuring he had as much of a arc for line of fire, as he could get. He knew what he was doing was dangerous. For more than one reason. He was, afterall, an actual alien on this world. If he were to be injured, or even killed, then his existence would cause an enormous spectacle among the humans.
However, after being here all these long years, he had come to see these humans as his friends. He would not abandon them now. He had, of course recieved notification from the Science Council that, at any moment, all of the El Aurian observation teams would be pulled out and beamed off planet. Until then, however, he would stand and fight.
Once his truck was in position, he climbed up into the gun ring and readied the Mark 19 grenade launcher, that was currently loaded up. Looking down, he saw one of his new friends approach. "Howdy, Josef!" He said with a slight grin. In the weeks that his unit had been attached to Josef's, the two men had become fast friends. "How's the hand feeling today?" The two men had been sparring the night before, after a few beers had been drunk and several bets had been made. The German soldier had landed a few good hits, but ultimately lost, after he swung a left cross towards David's jaw, and the El Aurian, who had denser bones, ducked his head down just in time, taking the hit on the top of his head, where the bone is the thickest.
