Damien groaned as he headed out of the Security Office. The work day may have officially been finished, but Damien just couldn't bring himself to head back to his quarters just yet. His brain was still too wired and he needed to do something with his hands to calm himself down.

Checking his watch, he nodded to himself. He had enough time to head to the Holodeck, run a few drills, and get a bit of practise in before it was time for dinner. Heading to the Turbolift at the end of the hall, it was only a few more minutes before he was stood in front of the Holodeck.

Approaching the control panel, he scrolled through the list of programs, before finding the first drill he wanted to run. Phaser training. As a Security Officer, he owed it to his fellow officers to ensure he was always prepared, and sometimes, that meant going back to basics.

With the program fully loaded, Damien hit the execute button, and stepped into the holodeck, the doorway vanishing behind him as it closed. The setting was basic enough. A large grey room, filled with various targets, at differing distances, and a rack filled with Phasers set against the opposite wall.
Walking over to the rack, he selected a simple Type 2 Phaser, checked the calibrations with all within acceptable parameters, before stepping onto the marked space. “Computer, begin training sequence 1.” A second later came the beep from the computer as it complied with his request, and then the targets began moving. Being set at the most basic level, they didn’t move very quickly, and it didn’t take Damien very long to finish the programme and quickly shoot them all down.

Finishing the first level, Damien chuckled, lowering the Phaser. ‘And to think.’ He thought to himself, as he walked back over to the rack, ‘There used to be a time I’d struggle to hit even one moving target.’

Looking at the weapons in front of him, he thought for a few seconds, before selecting a Phase Rifle. “Been a while since I’ve had to use one of these.” He muttered to himself. Lifting it up, and settling the stock against his shoulder, he peered down the eyesight, making sure it was correctly calibrated, before walking back up to the mark. “Computer, begin training sequence 4.” There was again a few seconds whilst the computer complied with his request, but soon the room shifted slightly. The discs shruk in size slightly, and obstacles suddenly appeared before him, walls shimmering into existence, floating platforms appearing in midair.

A few seconds later, there was a second beep as the training sequence started. The disks moved a lot quicker this time, zipping around the room, flying behind the walls, and being covered by the platforms. Damien grinned to himself as he set about, soon falling into a familiar rhythm, aim, focus, breath, fire. Aim, focus, breath, fire. Again and again he went, until all of the disks had been destroyed.

Damien smiled as he lowered the Phase Rifle. “Definitely not my best score.” He muttered to himself. “But that’s what training is for.” He said, before hefting the Rifle up again. “Computer, reset training sequence and execute on my mark.”
