“So I interlinked the Space matrix restoration coil, cleaned the phase inducer system, and replaced the Magnetic interlock system and…..are you listening to me Ket ?” Andrea, Kets co-pilot and tactical systems operator, was looking at the Vulcan pilot in front of him as he just picked his food at the mess hall table.

Ket was looking gloomy and just pushing the pasta on his plate around with his fork “Hmmm what?” He responded in a deadpan tone, not looking up at his plate.

Andrea rolled his eyes “are you listening to me Ket, you know the space matrix restoration coils. It took me an hour just to get the grime out of the motivator shaft.” Ket did not even really look up instead he just mumbled something and carried on pushing pasta around the plate. “Hey, what's up?” Asked Andrea sincerely.

Ket shrugged, mimicking the human body language. “I was just contemplating about home.” He put his folk down and sat back back in his lounge like chair.

“What's her name?” Asked Andrea, mischievously, to try and take the Vulcans mind off things.

Ket shook his head gently from side to side. “No. It is not like that” the Vulcan responded with an emotionless demeanour. “No…” the Vulcan was about to respond. But a call to all hands came over the main comms. Ket and Andrea jumped from their seats and headed to the fighter launch bay.

The alert fighter craft, two Valkyrie space superiority fighters, were already clearing the landing bay as the two crewmen, already in their flight suits, put on the rest of their gear and headed out to the flight deck. Awaiting them was an engineering team around a Gryphon Fighter/Bomber. They swarmed around it like ants on an ant hill, detaching fuel lines, coolant umbilical's, checking armaments and software. Ket and Andrea climbed into their respective seats. Plugged themselves in and began pre-flight checks. Their fingers danced skilfully over the touch screen LCARS display. Their small craft began to hum and vibrate gently as the power core whirled up and life was brought to the Gryphon class fighter bomber.

The white arrow shaped vessel lifted gently from the deck, its small drives glowing blue. It rotated around so its nose was facing the large inky black of space that could be seen through the environmental shields of the hanger bay. Blue of the impulse engines emitted a brighter blue and the small craft shot out of the hangerbay like a bullet from a gun.

The starfighter banked left and then gilded with a spin on its access as it cleared the immediate proximity of the launch site. “So What did you do with the space matrix restoration coil” came Ket’s voice of the internal comm link. His human companion chortled to himself a little as around the fighter wing began to form up into formation. “Oh so you were listening” said Andrea as he tapped again on the LCARS display as he made sure the ship's gravity field was stable. Ket mentally shrugged to himself and responded with his usual emotionless response “Indeed” he said. “Indeed "came a mock response from Andrea over the Comm. Ket could almost visualise the facial expressions that would have come with it.

Andrea began to bring the warp engines online as orders came over from the wing commander with coordinates and orders to enter warp. “I miss her i think….” said Ket trailing off to himself as he put the ship into warp and the stars began to streak over the glass canopy. “Ahhhh, so it was girl” said Andrea wisely.

The warp jump was a small one as they left the Elysium and the large cathedral like craft behind them. Orders came of the comm, that the fighter wing was setting up a picket sphere in the immediate air space around the the system that the starship was occupying, to prevent any untoward surprises
