Fernando had finished his shift, gone and picked up Cody and headed to the quarters he shared with Heather and Cody's sister Caitlin. He had put Cody on the living room floor and gone to the kitchen to prepare dinner and had no idea on what to fix. Should be something simple like spaghetti? Or something a bit more challenging and risk ruining the dinner? He decided to play it safe and go with spaghetti and garlic toast. he walked back into the living room to check on Cody. "Going to have spaghetti tonight Cody my man with garlic toast. That okay with you?" In reply Cody babbled happily. 'that's what I thought." Fernando smiled at his son and went back into the kitchen.
Heather stepped out of the shower having enjoyed being able to have a few minutes to herself, without having to worrying about either of her children needing her. She appreciated just how much help Fernando was even after a full day’s shift. After towelling off she put on her comfortable around the home wear, before she headed out to join Fernando. “Smells delicious in here” she smiled as she walked over to Fernando and kissed him on the cheek.
Fernando smiled at Heather's kiss. Her kisses always excited him. She was an amazing woman. She had a full-time career and still made time for him along with Cody and Caitlin. "Did you enjoy your shower love?" He asked as he moved about the kitchen preparing dinner. "Having spaghetti and garlic toast." he stated. "Cody and I decided that's what the family wanted tonight. Who knows tomorrow might be tacos." he said with a smile.
Heather grinned. “Don’t you mean you decided with a little help from Cody?” She took her seat at the table. “And yes, I enjoyed my shower thank you.”
Fernando grinned at Heather, "Is that what I mean? I suppose it is. Nonetheless Cody helped in the decision-making process. I am glad you enjoyed your shower love."
Heather gave their son a playful smile, he was growing up so fast. “I wonder what Caitlin will like once she’s old enough for solids. She could be completely different to Cody.”
Fernando paused and thought on Heather's question. "An excellent question to be sure Heather. I think she will be different than Cody just as we will be different then we were with Cody. We know more and are more experienced in handling, dealing with babies." He offered
“That’s true, it’s definitely a whole different learning curve with Caitlin compared to when we had Cody.” Heather smiled. “Not that I’d change anything.”
"I couldn't agree more my love. Like you, I wouldn't change a thing. We have two healthy and happy children and I have a wonderful. loving and caring wife. I am the luckiest man in the galaxy." Fernando replied as he was preparing to put the spaghetti and garlic toast on their plates. ""Will you fix the glasses please Heather?"
“Of course” Heather smiled and moved to fill their glasses, whilst making sure little Cody had his skippy cup. Caitlin would be feeding soon enough.
Thank you love." Fernando replied as he placed the plates at his and Heather's places and fixed a smaller amount for Cody minus the garlic toast. "I hope you like this Heather, if you don't blame Cody." He said laughing as he did.
“Ohh I’m sure I’ll like it” Heather smiled as she picked up her cutlery and made a start on hers.
Fernando smiled and sat down winking at Cody. "Well Cody, let us see what your mother thinks of this meal."
Heather smiled as she finished off her first mouthful. “Mmm that’s pretty good.”
Fernando smiled and then winked at Cody. "Good news Cody, Mommy likes her spaghetti." To which Cody gurgled and laughed in agreement.
“I was a child once” Heather grinned. “I liked spaghetti then, and I like it just as much now.”
Fernando stared at Heather in mock surprise. "What? You were a child once? I am shocked. I thought you were always the wonderful, intelligent and sexy woman I married." He said winking at Cody and grinning broadly at Heather.
“Ohh really?” Heather grinned. “It’s taken a while to reach my maturity, but who wants to be a boring adult who doesn’t enjoy being childish every now and again?”
"Fernando grinned broadly and nodded. "I agree completely Heather. being a child and acting silly every once in and awhile. Is good. It reduces stress. Besides." He shrugged his shoulders, "I am sure most people would say I am a child all the time."
“You? Never!” Heather giggled, Fernando’s personality was one of the many reasons she fell in love with him in the first place.
Fernando grinned and bobbed his head up and down. “I know! How could anyone ever think that about me?" As he made a face at Cody which in turn but a happy giggle from the boy.
Heather couldn't help but giggle. Fernando’s humour was infectious and he was a wonderful father to both their children.
Fernando turned to Heather; she was his world. he knew when he first saw her she was special and their time together as husband and wife had only proven how special Heather was. She was an amazing mother to Cody and Catlin. A top-notch medical professional and to top it off, a loving wife to him. He smiled and winked at her, blowing her a kiss as he did.
“How long do you think it would be for us to get back home?” Heather gave Fernando a curious look. “I had a patient today whose suffering badly being away from home and family, it made me wonder.”
Fernando didn't answer at east not right away. "I do not know Heather my love. I would say based on how our journey is going so far, it will still be several years before we return home. I hope I am wrong and we are able to return much sooner than that."
Heather nodded. “As long as I’m with you and our children, I can cope with that. My home is wherever you are Fernando.” She smiled warmly.
Fernando nodded, "Home is where the heart is Heather and mine is with you, Cody and Caitlin. Now and for all time for we are a family united in love for all time."
Heather nodded. “Well now we’ve sorted that one” she grinned. “How’s about we all sit down together and enjoy our family time while we’ve got the chance. One thing with being away from the Federation is that we don’t get a call every moment to go somewhere, or do something.”
Fernando nodded in agreement. "Right, you are Heather my love, let me clear away the dishes and then we can start enjoying family time. Without worrying about being interrupted or having to leave."
Heather nodded. “Is there anything you need me to do?”
Fernando nodded and a brilliant smile appeared on his face. "Indeed, there is Heather. Something very important." He paused and moved to stand in front of her, " Always be here for me and the children. Be my partner, my love forever." He finished as he hugged her and kissed her.
“You know I will Imzadi” Heather hugged Fernando, before returning his kiss. “I swore to be at your side no matter what, and that’s right where I’ll be.”
Fernando hugged her tightly. "You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I knew when I saw and met you my life was going to change for the best and it has." He finished warmly.
