Ket was still getting use to the grand scale of the USS Elysium. The last vessel he had served on had been a Excelsior class star ship. Unlike the Elysium, things had been more pact together. But here on the Elysium, sometimes it was like being on a space station. As such Ket was late when arriving for his standard medical checks, having got a little lost on route. Ket could almost feel his worn muscles tightening up from being poked and prodded by another doctor,
A grumbling sound slightly echoed along with the heavy footsteps as around the corner came the lab coat-clad gorn. Blowing on the cup of coffee in his hand his white eyes shifted as they detected the newcomer in his med. " Ah hello there captain Kett." The big lizard said walking over as he offred his hand.
Ket raised one puzzled eyebrow as he looked at the Gorn standing in front of him. Though Ket was not new to the Elysium, the large ship did have a crew of over two thousand, and Ket did not often find himself interacting with senior staff. So he was a little taken aback by seeing the giant lizard. Ket was a Federation Citizen of Cestus Three, which had a history with the Gorn. But it was a history long in the past. Ket had the typical emotionless Vulcan demeanour, but he was surprised and this came across as he tried to adjust his uniform before shaking the hand of the Big Scaly Gorn. "Marine Captain Ket at your service sir. I am here for my medical review."
" Well let's get you ssseen to flyer. " The gorn said gesturing for the Vulcan to follow him. " Any illnesssss or injuriesss not on your file sssince your lassst checkup?" he added
Ket scratched his beard thoughtfully as he followed the Gorn through sickbay. "No sir" cam the emotionless Vulcan response. "My current medical records are all up to date and i have kept up with my ongoing treatment plans"
" Very good." The gorn replied as he stepped into his office and tapped the biobed. " Take a ssseat and we can get ssstarted. "
Ket lifted himself up on the bio bed his worn muscles aching a little as he did so. He shuffled from side to side a little as he sat upright and his legs dangled over the edge of the bed. The bio beds LCARS display at the top of the bed, came to life with medical readings.
" Well, how has the fleet been treating you? " Sthilg enquired as he began looking over the readings. You could tell the man was a starfighter pilot.
"As well as can be expected sir" said Ket in his emotionless Vulcan turn. "Given the circumstances I believe the fleet is treating us all with a certain element of trepidation. Though i am still ensuring i keep up with my treatment plans."
" Good good. The last thing we need is a pilot in bad health. I once had to treat a Klingon who only noticed sssomething was off when one of his middle fingersss was two inchesss longer than the other. " The gorn replied.
"Yes sir" responded Ket. "Klingons are renowned for their physical fortitude and stubbornness to pain." Ket stroked his beard thoughtfully. "it is logical to assume that his other fingers had been cut off? Perhaps with a blade of some sort?" It was the only logical conclusion Ket could come up with, though he hypothesized that perhaps his finger could of grown longer than the others by some other technological means. It was a infinite universe after all, and anything was possible.
" Nope, the idiot was messssssing with his fighter'sss internal dampenersss ssso he could get an adrenaline buzz. The old klingon fire bird missssile launch was on the cockpit'sss left. Every time he reached for it he wasss ssslighly ssstreaching hisss middle finger. " The gorn explained leting out a slight groan. " The KDF wasss truly an experience."
"Fascinating" said Ket with genuine interest. "i have not had much experience with fighter craft. What kind of fighter craft was it?"
" A firebird. One hundred and twenty yearsss ago it wasss the ssstate of the art of Klingon technology. Nowerdaysss i hear they give the remaining ssstock to the empiresss client worldsss. Sssomething you ssstart notching when you get to my age isss how quickly tech that'sss ssstate of the art becomes antique." The gorn replied.
Ket raised one thought full eyebrow. He was not sure the contextomy of client state was appropriate, given that most client worlds were conquered worlds. Ket was certainly sure that the doctor had probably been ivolved in some of those occupations given his work for the klingon defence force. "So why change from the Klingon Defence Force to Starfleet doctor?"
" Oh my contract with the KDF was coming to an end. The Klingon houssse I'd been working for had all gone and I'd be in that part of the galaxy for nearly a hundred years, ssso i had nothing to keep me in the empire. When ssstafleet offered me a contract after the Dominion War i sssaw no reassson to not accept it. " The gorn explained before adding. " What about you why did you join Starfleet.? "
Probably the deep seated illogical urge to remove myself as much as possible to from my families political machinations thought Ket to himself solemnly. "I was good at flying and strafleet appeared to be the most logical option at the time to hone, build and improve on my flying capabilities."
Sthilg white eyes gazed over the incoming data from the scan. A lot of wear and tear, a few healed broken bones and more. " Well, everything looking good. I don't see anything that would cause me to declare you unfit for duty."
"Thank you doctor" responded the Vulcan without feeling "That is most re-assuring." Ket pulled himself off the bio bed. Which in turn ceased its gentle humming noises and scans.
" Make sure to complete your phych evaluation." The gorn added as he handed him a data crystal with a copy of the results.
"Thank you doctor" responded the Vulcan as he took the data crystal
