After dinner, Calin and Olmex lay together, in her bed, as they enjoyed some soft music from his home region, back on Romulus. The various tones that the harmonizing monks achieved, in the recording, was enough to calm even the hardest heart. Certain songs even had an aphrodisiatic quality to them.
"So," he began softly, as he slowly ran his fingertips up and down her bare spine. "The Human and his pet are finally out of the way, and a real Romulan is back in the command seat."
"hmm" Calin mumbled as she nuzzled his neck. "We shall see how long he lasts." She whispered as she pressed a light kiss to his neck. "He only won by two votes..."
A hungry growl vibrated deep in Olmex's broad chest when Calin kissed him. "He is young, but could be moldable. If not, he too can be replaced by one who is more comfortable with command." He turned his face towards hers and kissed her fiercely.
"It will most likely happen sooner rather than later" she said when they broke apart, both panting slightly. "I am sure their death will bring honor to their name."
He grunted softly in agreement. "Provided their death has meaning, of course." He suddenly had the thought that, if the situation arose, he could take command easily. Of course, to do so would mean that he would have to reveal who he truly was. However, that was a situation to deal with at another time. For now, he had the woman he loved in his arms, in her bed, and he would remain focused on the here and now.
Calin studied his face for a moment. "What is on your mind?" she asked softly.
Olmex looked into the younger woman's hypnotic eyes and let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding. "Just thinking about the future, my love."
Calin studied him as he spoke. "Oh and what thoughts are those Love?" she asked as she shifted so she was laying on top of him.
Olmex's jaw tightened slightly when he felt Calin's body slide across his. She knew just how to ignite his inner fires. Reaching up, he gently moved a few stray strands of her silky black hair, out of her face and behind her right ear. "Partially about the future command structure of this ship, but mostly, about how perfect I think you are."
Calin smiled at that but she was wanting to know more. "Hmm I love hearing you say that but your mind is more on the ship politics these days. I pay attention because it's a way to stay safe. But I have no desire to be Riov."
"Beloved," he spoke softly, "While I have no doubt that one day you could be a very competent and powerful Riov, today is not that day. The Havrah needs a strong leader now, to lead her on the right path to bring her crew home, or at least, to a new home, if no escape from Circinus is possible."
Calin nodded slowly. "Do you think it's impossible? Looking for a way home?"
Olmex thought for a couple seconds, then replied. "In my heart, no. However, realistically, at some point, we will need to start thinking about our own survival. Which would mean establishing a colony and begin to have and raise children. At that point, the choice as to whether the journey continues to return to our old home, or stay and build a new Romulan Empire, will be up to the next generation."
Calin nodded. "I don't think the command team want to consider that option." She snuggled down against him.
"Then they are fools," he growled softly as he held onto the love of his life. "Survival is the only thing that matters."
"Never said the current crop were smart" She mumbled. "Medical is staying out of this though."
He nodded thoughtfully. "That is a wise move. As yours is one of the most important departments for everyone's survival, you should remain neutral."
Calin nodded. "We should sleep. Morning always comes too soon." She whispered.
Olmex nodded reluctantly. He then held up his left arm, so Calin could nestle down against him. Once they were both comfortable, he instructed the computer to play some relaxing monastic throat chants, the sounds of the music both soothing and lulling. He then turned off the lights, and the white main lights changed to a more subdued hue of blue, which was coming from recessed locations along the baseboard of the bulkheads in the cabin. In moments, both of them were sleeping peacefully, wrapped in each other as they were.
