Time to Begin

Posted on Sat Apr 27th, 2019 @ 1:16pm by Lieutenant Joachim Singh

Mission: Episode 1: Hell is a four letter word
Location: Deep Space 9
533 words - 1.1 OF Standard Post Measure

Since his arrival on Deep Space 9, Joachim had made it a point to not get too comfortable. He had not unpacked in the visitor's quarters he was assigned and had made it a point to memorize just enough of the station to get from the nearest turbolift to his quarters and back to the lift. Anything more would be a waste of valuable memory space. Instead, he ate his meals in the guest quarters and left seldom during his stay.

When he was at last notified that his transfer had gone through and it was time to leave the station and board the Elysium propper, he could not have been more pleased. While he had been comfortable in the guest quarters, he had a disdain for waiting. He had not even been given crew profiles to go over while he waited.

But now the waiting was over. It took him only minutes from the time he received the notice of transfer to gather his few belongings and leave the guest quarters heading to the turbo lift.

"Docking Ring," he said as he entered the turbolift. A moment later he was on a lift moving at outrageous speed, something only noticeable if you were paying a high degree of attention, which he was.

Seconds later he found himself on the docking level. He could hear the people milling about and he reached into his bag to pull out his walking stick. he normally never used it, he was capable of navigating most places off of the sound and feel, but if he used his stick people tended to be more cautious around him and not forget about his impairment. Of course, he could have easily worn a VISOR and been done with it, but he'd made his choice long ago and he was not about to change his mind.

Navigating to the docking hatch was easy enough. He had the station map on a PADD and had plotted out his route to the docking hatch and it was not like it was a complex route. The issue would be making his way there without incident.

He moved to the hatch with ease, his stick tapping in front of him more as a cue to others than as a tool for him. At the hatch, he stopped near the personnel officer and presented a PADD with his transfer orders.

"Lieutenant Joachim Singh, counselor," the personnel officer read off the PADD. "Anything you wish to claim while coming aboard?"

"One bag," Joachim said with a soft smile as he patted the bag under his arm.

"Welcome to the Elysium, Lieutenant," the officer said and held the PADD out, Joachim reaching out and grasping it.

"Indeed," Joachim said with a smile and a nod as he stepped up the steps leading to the hatch and onto the ship proper. His first stop would be the quartermaster for his room assignment, then his room to drop off a few things, and then sickbay to introduce himself to the staff there and prepare his workspace. He figured he would be seeing patients almost immediately, very little point in waiting. He was on the ship, it was time to begin.
