Serenity gathered her files, and headed to the Lead JAG officer's Office. She hit the chime and waited. She had a few files left to go over and the mystery file that gave no victim name but gave a ton of information.
Aren looked up from his desk, padds scattered about and his brow was glistening with sweat. He glanced at the time, 1530 hours, "Enter."
He started stacking padds together and setting them to one side while pulling up personnel files.
Serenity came through the doors. "Ah busy I see" she said with a grin. "Paperwork never ends for all of us."
"Indeed." Aren said as he looked up, "Lieutenant Triannth, indeed."
He adjusted himself in his chair and motioned for her to sit, "What can I do for you?"
"I have a mystery file." Serenity said. "Its dated back shortly after our arrival in this galaxy. And.. It details the commodore reprimanding two senior security officers who refused to grant proper rights to a witness/suspect, in the beating of an unnamed officer. The officer's name has vanished from the system. Kind of like the name of who was chief of flight before Lieutenant McKull."
"Well that certainly is a mystery." Aren admitted as he tapped his console. "Who were the security officers?"
"The Late Commander Aurelia Holmes and the now civilian Lieutenant Commander S'hib." She placed the PADD on his desk. "I have it here that the Commodore, intervened in the situation, which was correct as the complaint went to her. The officers concerned did not stop questioning when the witness asked for a JAG. The recording has been somewhat corrupted and the name of the victim is missing. I was there but even my memory of the victim is missing."
Aren scratched his chin, the tell-tale noise of new stubble beneath his fingers slightly audible, "Peculiar, and your memory was affected too? Have you gone to sickbay? Perhaps they may have some way to retrieve your memories, or do we have any Vulcans aboard that can perform a mind meld?"
"Yes I have been to medical. its wide spread. Even S'hib cannot remember who the victim is and the Commodore is just as perplexed. " Serenity replied "We think it was from our interactions with the roaming Church but.. fact remains that I cannot file this report."
Aren nodded, "Yeah, it's an incomplete report."
He thought for a moment, "Do we have anyone who can help us clear up the surveillance? Someone in engineering maybe or in Intel? If we can get the video cleared up we might be able to finish the report and get things squared away."
Serenity nodded. "I will reach out to the computer specialist." She agreed. "That said, security have been looking into it with little luck."
"I see," Aren stood and walked to his replicator, "Coffee, black," Then looked to the Lieutenant, "Would you like anything?"
"Water thanks" Serenity replied with a smile.
Aren nodded, "Water," then pulled both glasses from the replicator and handing the water to the Lieutenant before sitting back down.
"What if we re-interview those involved. Maybe we can gleam some kind of information about what's going on. Maybe someone in the Science Department could run scans during the interviews." He said as he sipped his coffee.
"That would be an idea. " Serenity agreed. "They maybe be able to see if there are issues with the recording as well."
"Why don't we gather up the files on everyone, lets do a deep dive into those involved, and then I can reach out to Lieutenant N'Vok. He's offered his area of expertise if I should ever need it. I think this would be a case he would enjoy giving us a hand on. Well enjoy as much as any Vulcan can I suppose. I think he'd also find it fascinating given the facts as we know them on this." Aren said as he took another sip of coffee.
Serenity nodded. "Sounds like a good idea." She placed the PADD down.
Aren started pulling up files on his desk terminal, "Alright, lets start with with the former Lieutenant S'hib. What do we know about them?"
"He is a seequs, a horselike race. He has a temper but always stands down when female command officers stand up. His race is matriarchal." Serenity paused "He has always been a good officer. This whole situation is just out of character."
Aren nodded, "I've never had any encounters with matriarchal societies. Was there anything else we know that was out of character for the Lieutenant?"
Serenity shook her head. "No he was basically normal. The Commander was very out of character though."
Aren typed in some notes on his PaDD, "How was the commander out of character?"
"She was very abrasive and accused the commodore and her own husband of being against her. I do not like to speak ill of the dead but she was off her rocker"
Their conversation continued over the coming hours as they worked out how to fix the issues.
OFF
OOC: https://usselysium.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/3432 is the post. The Officer known as Miraj Derani-and all records in the ship about them has vanished. So every time their name is mentioned in the recording it comes out as static.
