Gary was in his quarters, he stood in the middle of the room and reflected on his life. His triumphs and pitfalls. There was Catlin, whose smile
could light up a room and whose smile was infectious. He had loved her with an all consuming passion only to lose her in a senseless death and he
hadn't even been there to say goodbye. That's when the walls started going up and ge began to distance and shut himself off from others to
keep from being hurt again. He had become, cold and aloof.
Then he joined the Elysium and it's young captain (who had recently gone through an ordeal of her own) had extended a hand not only in friendship but also in faith and and support. He had taken the hand hesitately but he didn't need to worry. A bond of trust had been established and he would forever be in debt to Phoenix Lalor. The walls were still up but cracks were beginning to form and spread. Then and he smiled at the thought as he met the Elysium's Security,Tactical Chief one Lia Holmes and the sparks that flew from the time they first laid eyes on each other. Unfortunately it was because they wanted to strangle each other. However a talk on the hologram sorted out what was a simple misunderstanding and something wonderful was born that day as a spark fluttered into life and that spark grew into a flame and a love was born. The walls were now beginning to show serious cracks in their foundation. He smiled again as he thought of another who helped him. Liselle Qwyyn, the Elysium's Chief Flight Control Officer and his partner in Old West adventures on the holodeck. Liselle was also his best friend. Her willingness to partake in the Old West adventures without objection or question was quite remarkable as was the simple unabashed joy she got from taking part in the adventures.
The walls were crumbling, falling down as he began to live again and see all he had missed. The rest of the Elysium crew, Dr. Sullivan, Sthilg, Matias Arri, Wynter and others had also helped in their own special way to bring the walls down. He smiled at all those who had helped both those here and those gone. He knew he couldn't have done it without them. He knew because of them, He would never be alone. He always had a family here on the Elysium. It was his haven, a place he was always welcomed. "Computer play, I'm Still Standing." An instant later the first notes filled the room and Gary found himself singing along with the upbeat lyrices.
You could never know what it's like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use
And did you think this fool could never win
Well look at me, I'm coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
Once I never could hope to win
You starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now
You know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah
