As the work to repair the damaged systems continued to gsin speed, the team of Romulan engineers worked side-by-side with their Elysium counterparts. Unfortunately, as they were working, they discovered that the damage sustained was more extensive than earlier thought.
Suddenly, there was an explosion in Engineering. Several engineers were hurt, including Louis Bordeaux.
Lorelei was crying. “Don’t you die on me Louis! Our children need you!”
Louis says, “It hurts. I shielded you. Need a doctor. I do not want to loose my left arm.”
Lorelei pulled herself together. ”We need a medic in Engineering!"
Meanwhile Athena and Thor were working with the Romulans.
Thor touched his communication badge. "Kamryn. There was an explosion in Engineering. One critical injury, Petty Officer Perry Mathews. Send medical. I am going to delegate Athena to work with the Romulans. I will be there ASAP."
Cam tapped a response on her badge, "Acknowledged. Medical is on their way."
She wasn't too far from engineering, but heard the explosion. Routing some energy among the circuits, she managed to minimize the potential power overload. Inputting additional safety subroutines, she ensured that there won't be additional explosions in the near future. However, it wasn't a guarantee but Cam kept an eye on the power levels.
One of the Romulans looked at the Elysium's Chief Engineer and asked, "How can we be of assistance, Lieutenant Magnus?"
“Help the engineers and tend to the wounded,” Thor replied.
Sindari watched from her place near a hatch to the tubes. She had her own issues with the Romulans and being half Romulan meant that she knew to avoid them as she was a half breed in their eyes. So as they were dispersed, she vanished into the tubes.
As the medics arrived, the Romulan engineers helped clear debris and get the wounded evacuated to sickbay. The senior engineer present looked over the damage, thrn turned to Thor. "This new damage will put repairs back at least ten hours."
“Thank you,”. Thor said with his charming trade mark smile.
One of the Romulan male engineers, “I am Adama tr’Tamarind. We are paying it forward. Now it looks like your crew has several hurt, one in critical condition.”
Hours later, everything was fixed. Thor thanked the Romulans for their help. All the engineers had a recovery. Thor ordered Louis to take a day off. Louis complied.
Petty Officer Perry Mathews did not make it. His wounds affected his liver which caused his organs to shut down. His wife Gertie who was a civilian on board was now a widow with a ten year old son Perry Mathews Jr. The Engineers chipped in to take care of Gertie and her son.
They gave Perry a military funeral. He was part Scottish so Thor had the bagpipes to be played. Thor spoke about Perry at the funeral citing Perry had a reverence to God, made people laugh and he appreciated a good joke. Thor presented a flag to Gertie at the end of the funeral.
