Anna was working on repairing a damaged turbolift, her assistant had just headed off to the replicator for a needed part when, sliding out of a Jeffries tube, was T'Sai. Apart from some stains on the elbows and knees of her clothes, the young Vulcan seemed perfectly well.
"Hello, Lieutenant," she said brightly. "Do you need some help? I have been studying system repair but I have not seen it in action."
"Sure," Anna said, handing her a spanner. "I need to remove this damaged wall panel and take it back to operations to work on it properly. I'll have to replace a few parts, not all of which are replicable." She glanced back to the Jeffries tube and paused. "Where are you coming from, T'Sai? Are you ok?"
"I have been moving through the interior of the ship since the attack," replied T'Sai. "Looking for hiding places and places to cache supplies." She set to work on loosening the panel. "And, yes, I am well. I am always well when I am working to control my situation."
"I was worried about you," Anna said, also working on the panel.
T'sai paused. "I did not mean to cause you worry, Anna. But there was considerable chaos. I did not see a safe or easy way to get to my quarters. So I hid in the Jeffries tubes." She paused again. "The monsters were quite frightful, though I only saw them in passing."
"I saw them in more than passing," Anna said grimly. "I know they were. I'm glad you're safe." She finished detaching the panel with T'Sai's help. "I need to take this back to my office. Normally, I'd send it to engineering but everyone is as busy as can be right now."
T'Sai nodded. "The poor Ely seem to have suffered a great deal of damage, again. It is . . . scary. The Ely is our home and all that keeps us safe. Anyone who hurts her, well, is our enemy." She paused. "I feel sad and helpless that I could not help protect our home."
"It's ok," Anna said. "We want you to get to safety when something like this happens."
"I did," said T'sai. "N'vok knows my plans. We have places to meet if things go . . . poorly. And," she taps an amulet around her neck. "A tracker if needed."
"Good," Anna said. "I was...I was worried, is all. We're not done with this horror show either."
T'Sai nodded. "That is why we need to get the Ely repaired. We will teach those monsters that attacking a Starfleet ship is a bad idea. We will not start fights but we will certainly finish them."
"I hope you're right," Anna said, not quite projecting the confidence she meant to.
T'Sai sets her hand on Anna's shoulder. "Be positive, Anna. We are on a ship full of exceedingly talented people. We have come this far, we will not let some monsters stop us now."
"I wasn't planning to let them," Anna said. She looked about to say something else but didn't.
T'Sai turns back to the work. "I am glad you were not hurt. The monsters were very scary."
"I agree," Anna said. She hesitated a second. Then she leaned over and hugged T'Sai.
T'Sai returned the hug, for just a moment. "It is odd how comforting physical contact can be." She looks like she is about to ask something but thinks better of it. "Thank you. Now, should we finish with this?"
"We're almost done," Anna said.
"The Ely will be appreciative of our efforts, I am sure," said T'Sai.
