A few hours after the successful surgery to save his life, Gunnery Sergeant Moses Henderson slowly woke up. At first, he saw that he was in the intensive care unit, them he remembered the battle. Those nightmarish creatures were a sight he wasnt soon to forget.
Turning his head slightly, he saw a vision that made his heart flutter. Gami, sitting in a chair next to his biobed, her head down on her hands, seemingly asleep. Reaching out, he began to gently stroke her dark hair, a sight that might almost seem comical, given the size and strength of his hand.
Gami bolted up at the touch. her body tensing for a moment before realizing that the touch came from Moses. "You're awake!" she exclaimed before taking his hand. "How are you feeling?"
He smiled at her, as he was silent for a few beats, just looking deep into her eyes. The look in his reflected a mix of love and relief. Finally, he cleared his throat and replied, his deep voice raw. "I feel like I went a few rounds with a Gorn behemoth." He swallowed the lump in his throat, a flash of fear in his eyes. "Did we...win?"
Gami sat back down, keeping a hold on his hand. "Yeah, for now anyways. But don't you worry about that. You just worry about getting better."
A tired grin crossed his face. "You ordering me around, Gunny? You do know I technically out rank you by a couple months." He started to chuckle, then stopped when a had wave of coughs wracked he body.
"And I'll still kick your ass," she teased, smiling as she took a breath to steady her nerves. She hoped Naxea would put her back on duty soon. She had gone to medical and they determined that she had strained her paracortex during the assault.
After a few beats, Moses calmed and took in a slow breath. "Were you hurt any?" He asked, love and concern for her in his eyes and tone. He reached out and gently caressed the right side of her face.
"No. Not really, anyways. I strained my paracortex, which is where Betazoid abilities originate. But I'll be fine in another day or two."
"Imzadi..." His face conveyed the pain he felt for the fact that she was hurt any. His eyes remained locked on hers as he attempted to send her images of his undying love for her, in the ways that she had been teaching him.
Gami could sense his thoughts and intentions as she grimaced, consciously shutting her mind down to outside thoughts. "Sorry. But but the doc says I need to rest my abilities. It's difficult but I'm getting used to it. And I love you too but you ever try this crap again, I'll kill you myself."
Moses stopped attempting to send his thoughts to her, gripping her hand a little tighter. Slowly, he lifted her hand to his lips and gently kissed her knuckles. "Roger that, Gunny." His eyes filled with humor and pure love as he responded. He then held her hand against his chest as his eyes drifted shut and he fell asleep again.
"Oh, sure. Just fall asleep on me. Typical man," she said jokingly as she sat back down next to the bed, keeping her hand on his chest as she watched him.
---a short while later---
Moses slowly regained conciousness again. Looking down and seeing Gami still there, he cleared his throat. "Sorry, Babe. The meds they got pumping through me while my body decides whether to accept of reject my new lung, are damn sĺtrong. Sorry that they knocked me out there. I'm very tired, " he popped up a little as he added, "I don't want to miss a single moment with you."
"Oh hush," Gami replied, giving him a playful slap on the arm. "You better just focus on resting."
"Give your teddy bear a kiss, angel. And I'll do just that." Moses grinned as wide as he could, his bright white teeth a stark contrast to his ebony skin. He knew that he was the only person who could get away with calling Gami, "angel". Even the Colonel wasn't as familiar with the beautiful woman sitting at his bedside, though they had a friendship that spanned years. Still, he never took advantage of the relationship he and Gami had. He only spoke to her like this when they were alone.
Chuckling, Gami leaned over and gave Moses a kiss. She didn't want to leave his side seeing how vulnerable he was. "There. Now get better or I'll have to kick your ass."
The big man grinned happily, then did as he was instructed by the woman who held his heart in her hands. "Roger that, Gunny." He gave her a flirty wink as he finished speaking.
Gami smiled. "Is there anything I can get you?" she asked.
Moses smiled back at her as he lay there. Looking around for any nurses or doctors, he whispered cobspiratorally to Gami. "They keep only giving me bland hospital food. I'd kill for a strawberry milkshake!" He chuckled softly at the thought.
Gami grinned and gave him a small nudge. "One Strawberry Milkshake coming up.". She got up and made her way to a nearby food replicator. One standard Strawberry Milkshake," she ordered. A moment later a glass of cold thick pink liquid materialized. She grabbed the drink and made her way back. "Here," she offered the drink.
The big man carefully sat up as much as he could, without being in too much pain. As Gami held the delicious beverage, he drank it through to the straw. He even stared it with Gami, allowing her to gave the cherry that was on top.
When the shake was gone, and the evidence had been disposed of, Moses laid back down on the biobed and held Gami's hand. "Tell me the truth, baby. How are our troops doing? Before the attack, I was starting to hear some minor rumors of discontent with the lower ranks. Have you heard anything?"
Gami sighed. "The grumbling is louder but nothing really specific or concerning that I am aware of but then again, my abilities are basically gone now untill the strain is healed."
Moses gently squeezed Gami's hand in his. "While I don't have your gifts, I have a feeling that there is something ugly growing in the shadows. You should warn the Colonel and through her, the brass topside."
"You're sure you didn't see yourself in the mirror?" she teased. "Don't worry. We're ready for those bastards this time. You just focus on resting."
Moses grinned at the woman he loved, then said, "I don't mean those space wolves, Imzadi. I'm talking about our own crew. There's something dark brewing, but I can't put my finger on what or by who. Promise me that you'll keep those beautiful eyes and ears open, sweetheart."
"I always do," she commented. "I better go before the colonel sends a search party out for me."
Moses nodded sadly, though he didn't let it show on his face, as. He didnt want his love to feel any guilt in leaving his bedside. He took hold of her right hand brought it to his lips, gently kissing her knuckles. "I'll see you later, my angel." The look he gave her was filled with how much he loved and adored her.
"Bet your ass you will," she said, giving him a wink before turning to leave.
Moses watched her go, his eyes falling to her own rear end. "But you have such a nicer ass, Imzadi." He grinned broadly when she looked back at him. He then blew her a kiss.
Gami made a grabbing gesture at the blown kiss, smiling as she walked out of the door.
