Shared concerns

Once the fight was deemed over, Teevs helped move the injured. Once he was able to get his helmet off, he saw it speckled with blood, which made his breath quicken slightly. His mind’s eye saw the helmet he wore back then, decorated with the blood of friends, neighbours… Swallowing hard, he forced those memories aside as he tried to identify his priorities. From the various reports he had caught wind of, the hounds didn’t get very far beyond decks 30 and 31, so he knew the Promenade was safe. Kerilia was safe.

He tapped his communicator, feeling his hand tremble against the armor. Per the promise he gave to Kerilia, he told her that it was over and he was safe. It was a relief to hear her voice, enough that his throat got tight and he had to quickly blink to keep his emotions in check. She was helping the teachers soothe the younger kids by keeping them distracted with the toys she had donated. It gave him the confidence he needed that she was ok.

Next was Addison. He watched the start of the fight on the screen in Marine Country. He identified her fighter and watched it closely. Flinched when her vessel faced weapons fire. When the ship was boarded, he forced himself to follow everyone else, to put on his helmet and raise his weapon. Once he was sure that he wasn’t needed anymore, he abandoned his helmet on a nearby table and ran. He didn’t know where he was running to, but the starfighter section of the ship seemed like a good place to start. He knew it was a restricted area for him, but he didn’t care. He just needed to see for himself that she was ok.

While running, he hit his communicator again. “Teevs to Addison, are you alright?” He didn’t bother trying to mask the concern in his voice.

Addison had made her way off the flight deck where she could relax a bit for a minute, having removed her helmet and unzipped the top quarter of her flight suit. Her hands weren't shaking as much from the adrenaline. Teevs' voice cut through on her communicator. "Yeah...had a bit of a bumpy landing but I'm fine."

There was no doubt that the sounds of his running were going through the comms. Despite the response, something in Teevs needed to see her to truly believe she was alright. A combination of wartime memories he tried to forget and the grief of losing a partner left him anxious, perhaps even afraid. The armor he hadn't bothered to take off yet felt like it was slowly constricting around him, and he tugged at his collar. "Is it possible to see you, even if for just a moment? I know it's silly, but it would put my mind at ease."

She wanted to see him as well as she stood. "Of course. Just come to the fighter hanger. I'm just taking a breather before heading back to my quarters."

It did not take long for Teevs to get there. The armor probably worked in his favour, but the requests to locate Addison led to pointed fingers that seemed content to let him through. He was forcing himself to regulate his breathing, to try and keep that anxiety from rising, as he searched for her.

Addison heard the doors open and looked on the direction to see Teevs searching frantically for her. She stood and made her way towards him, glad to see that he seemed ok. "Teevs!" she called out, with a wave so that he could spot her easily.

Turning toward the direction his name came from, Teevs spotted Addison. Visible relief washed over him as he saw her approaching. It was enough to ease the knot in his stomach, and he closed the distance to her. "Addison, thank the stars you're alright," he said. Being self conscious of his blood-speckled armor, he stopped short of hugging her so it didn't transfer anything. He instead offered his hands as a cleaner alternative. "I watched the start of the fight before the ship was breached."

"Yeah, I'm fine," she said as she spotted the blood. "That's not yours is it?" She asked, gesturing at the blood. She felt bad at letting the few breach pods through, feeling as if there was something more that she could have done.

"No, no!" Teevs quickly responded. "It's mostly from the hounds. I'm... a little shaken, I'll admit, but alright."

She squeezed his hands in response. "I'm glad you're okay. We tried our best to block the breaching pods..but there were just too many of them and fighters."

Her hands in his were comforting, and Teevs looked down at them. "It's alright, you all still destroyed a lot of them, which helped." He remembered the carnage left behind only a couple decks above them. It was going to take a while for them to recover everyone. "I'm glad you're alright, too. Some of those hits you took looked pretty bad."

"Yeah, but the Gryphons are a tough craft. They're designed to take punishment. I'm cleared off duty if you want to join me. I need to take a shower, as do you mister," she teased, grinning.

Teevs blinked, then smirked in response. "Is that an invitation?" He asked. Keeping one hand in hers, he gestured with his free hand for her to lead the way.

"Definitely an invitation," she clarified as she gently pulled him along in the direction of her quarters.

There was no objection from Teevs, and he let her guide him. If it took his mind off of the attack and distracted him from his own memories, then he'd certainly welcome it. "Then it would be rude of me to decline."

"Yes," she turned to look at him. "It would be rude of you to decline." She led Teevs through the corridors as they approached her quarters.

Teevs chuckled as they continued through the corridors, and soon enough they reached her quarters. One of his hands found its way to her lower back, offering presence in the form of a gentle touch.

Addison pulled him gently into the bathroom as she kissed him passionately.

Teevs smirked as he followed and kissed her back. There was no objection to this.

After the shower together, Addison snuggled against Teevs on the bed. She was exhausted from the battle. "Well, that's one shower that I won't complain about," she chuckled tiredly.

The chuckle that came from Teevs was hushed to help maintain the ambience in the room. His arm was around Addison, fingers tracing out random lines on her shoulder. The shower was refreshing, even though he knew he'd have to take another one after the inevitable cleanup work later. The mere thought of that was tiring. "Agreed. It's nice to just... get away from everything, even if it's just for a moment."

She let out a sigh. She didn't want Teevs to leave. "It needs to be longer," she said. "But I know you're needed. If you want, I can stop by the school and check on Kerilla."

"I have no objections. She's helping the teachers distract the younger kids. I think she'd be happy to see you." Teevs briefly removed his hand from her shoulder to place it under her chin, where he gently tilted her head up so he could kiss her. "As for this not lasting nearly long enough..." He gave her a wink, "I can always come back."

"Damn right you are," she replied with a large grin, looking into his eyes.

Teevs couldn't help but grin back. "I love that smile," he said. He offered another kiss, this one lasting a few extra seconds, before reluctantly shifting to get up. "Much of the work at this point is likely the initial damage assessment, which is more of a Starfleet thing. The breach points are probably where they will want me. At the very least, I have some rented gear to go return."

"Well then, try not to be too long," she said as she leaned over, giving him a kiss.

He certainly wouldn't turn down one more kiss. "I will be back as soon as I can. Get some rest."

"Be careful," Addison replied as she watched Teevs got up to get dressed.
