Season 6: Episode 6: Conglomerate

Lieutenant Serenity Triannth paused at the ready room threshold, then stepped inside at the Commodore’s acknowledgement, a secured padd held in both hands.
“Commodore.”
She moved forward, offering the padd.
“Preliminary JAG review of the Deck Fifteen incident has concluded. Based on witness testimony, medical logs, and internal sensor reconstruction, Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen is being formally accused of dereliction of duty under combat conditions, reckless endangerment of cadets, and physical misconduct toward a fellow officer.”
Her tone remained measured — clinical, precise.
“No tribunal has been convened at this time. The matter remains under formal investigation pending command authorization and Savar’s official statement.”
A brief pause, then:
“Per standing security protocol and on recommendation from JAG, Security has taken Lieutenant Commander Savar cha'Salik hei-Surak Talek-sen-deen into custody. He is currently secured in the brig pending formal inquiry.”
Serenity clasped her hands behind her back.
“Medical has confirmed two cadets were injured in the engagement. They survived due to intervention from Instructor Tonelly’s unit. The timeline indicates the outcome could have been significantly worse had relief arrived any later.”
She met the Commodore’s gaze, steady and professional.
“JAG is requesting authorization to proceed with a full inquiry and to formally relieve him of counseling and supervisory duties while the investigation is ongoing.”
A quieter beat followed.
“And… sir… the cadets are already talking. They’re asking whether the officer who left them will still be walking the same corridors tomorrow.”
Phoenix had listened and now was reading the report. She hit the intercom. "Captain Taylor to the ready room at once." Her tone was urgent. What was it with her crew doing stupid shit?
Gary was making rounds through the ship checking on repairs when Phoenix's call came through. He could hear the urgency in her voice through the combadge, "I'm on my way." He replied an and instant later he entered the ready room. Seeing Phoenix and Serenity standing there he asked, "What is it?"
Phoenix looked at Serenity. "Tell him."
So Serenity did. Everything.
When Serenity had finished, Gary looked at her and then Phoenix. Finally he spoke. "Serenity, no offense to you or your investigation but this makes no sense. Savar has been a trusted and valued member or this crew for years. I would never consider him a bad officer. This behavior is so unVulcan like are we sure of a;; the facts?"
"After the initial report, I hunted up the cadets. They are giving consistent statements. As are the marines that rescued them. Look I am not happy about it either. I could not believe it but the evidence is compelling. We are starting out investigaton and until then he is in the brig. I do not want witness tampering. Not by him, or his wife."
Gary shook his head," I agree Serenity, I just feel we're missing something. Let me ask you this. Can Savar be placed under house arrest? As a acknowledgement of past service? Where access is limited to just his wife and his counsel? I mean, when we were in the mirror universe he saved members of the crew and also helped take back the ship. He didn't suddenly become a coward."
"That is not my choice to make" Serenity said calmly. "A judge will need to make that call. And as the senior most officer present that is the Commodore's call, and one that must be made in the proper setting. This is just me, informing you of the charges being brought forth. There will be a hearing, if we schedual it in the coming days, we can have his counsel present and that can be put forth if Savar asks for it. Also there will need to be a counseling review. Done by an independant officer. And there will need to be strict communication block outs put in place. His wife is a member of the senior staff afterall."
Phoenix listened and considered things. "Two days. We will hold the initial hearing in 2 days. Until then, he remains in the brig. Then I will hear arguments from both sides regarding house arrest while the case is brought forth."
"I think we're forgetting he is presumed innocent and has not been found guilty or even formally charged. I feel in the effort to be fair and impartial we're in turn hurting Savar." Gary replied.
"And If I let him go back to his family without at least following process, what does that say to the cadets?" Phoenix asked softly. "I am not saying he is guilty Gary. I am saying i have to follow process. And if we do not, how is that right for everyone?"
"Phoenix, I understand what you are saying and you aren't wrong. All I am saying is sometimes you have to go outside the box." Gary answered quietly.
"Is this about Savar or about Lia?" Phoenix asked curiously. "Because I was following protocol there too."
"This has nothing to do with Lia. That is in the past." Gary answered evenly. "If you remember I supported your decision all the way with her which she never understood."
Oh Phoenix was pretty sure that had it been anyone else in the centre chair, Lia would not have thrown such a fit. She knew Phoenix was close with the other woman who had been in the silent battle for Gary and had resented Phoenix for it until this whole situation had exploded. But Phoenix said "Inform Commander Savar he will spend two nights in the brig until we can hold the hearing. Then we will decide there if it goes to a formal trial or if I can issue a captains Mast."
Gary nodded evenly. "Of course Commodore." Using her rank instead of name as the situation warranted that. "I will make sure his counsel knows on what to expect in the coming days and how we're proceeding. So they can in turn proceed and plan accordingly."
"His counsel is one of my best" Serenity said. "He will do his absolute best. And he is not scared of the prosecution."
"Good to hear and know Serenity. I'm hoping a formal trial can be avoided and a Captain's Mast can be used instead." Gary stated.
Phoenix looked at Serenity. "Set up the hearing room as well. You will be prosecuting?"
Serenity nodded. "Yes. And if I hear of anyone approaching any of the witnesses about this matter before the hearing, there will be consequences. Make sure you pass that on Captain Taylor. The Cadets, and Lieutenant De La Rosa are off limits." She knew he would not do it, but others might.
"Absolutely Commodore." Gary replied to Phoenix's request. He was a bit taken back by Serenity being the lead prosecutor. he was under the impression she liked Savar which was probably why she was prosecuting. to show no signs of favoritism.
"I will request a counselor from the Academy do the evaluation. Rather than one from the ship's main group." Phoenix said. "And it will be done before the hearing."
"Very good Commodore." Gary replied. "I think were about ready to proceed."
Serenity nodded. "I will go notify the witnesses now. Thank you for your time" She saluted and Phoenix dismissed her with a nod.
