A Mission Post by Captain Azhul Naxea & 1st Lieutenant James Edith
Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location:
Timeline: MD 15

[Passenger Shuttle - Enroute to USS Elysium]

James sat in the third row alone in the middle of the passenger shuttle roughly fifteen minutes out from the Elysium.

He RUBBED his nose bridge. The small amount of sweat and oil on his face allowed for the imprint of his right thumb to remain behind. He had just woken up from a nap and felt parched after taking the medication for the pain.

“Computer, ice water.” he requested as his voice broke the silence in the immediate surroundings.

The small replicator underneath the window returned a glass of water in the condition he requested. The three small iced cubes bobbed around in the glass. He grabbed the cup and sipped.

There were only three others officers and crew on the shuttle not including the flight crew. Two were Elysium bound, including himself, and he wasn’t sure about the other two. He sipped again and noticed the data padd on the seat next to him. It was his. He had been reading the background information and any information he had security access to, of the Marine Commander, Captain Azhul Naxea. He continued to read.

[USS Elysium]

Naxea sighed as she sat on the edge of her desk, looking over the PaDD that she held in her hand. On it were the names of the Marines under her. Some had been on the ship awhile with others, like herself just joining. It also seemed she was getting a new XO as well. She looked at the chronometer and saw that the said XO should be arriving soon.

The shuttle pulled away as both he and the other crew member materialized on the transporter platform. A marine waited for him and saluted.

"Lieutenant, welcome aboard the USS Elysium."

"Thank you, Sergeant.", James replied.

"May I grab that for you? He signaled to his bag.

"No, thank you, I have it."

"Yes, sir. I am to escort you to the Marine Commander's office. She is expecting you."

"Sure, let's do it." James replied with a smile. He didn't expect to meet her so soon not 5 seconds after coming aboard but he didn't mind it.

[10 Minutes Later, Roaming the Corridors]

The Marine Sergeant rang the door bell to Naxea's office.

"Enter," Naxea called, standing up, off of her desk and placing the PaDD down onto the desk.

The Sergeant walked in first and announced the Marine XO to Naxea. James walked in still holding his bag. The Sergeant walked back out. James sat the bag down on the floor and saluted.

“First Lieutenant James Edith reporting for duty, m’am.”

"At ease, lieutenant," Naxea said as she approached him and extended her hand. "Welcome to the Elysium."

James went from a salute to a handshake easily - whatever the CO was comfortable with. Firm handshakes all around but nothing to overburden.

“How are you, Captain?”, he asked.

"I am doing well, thank you," Naxea replied. "I'm still settling in as I just arrived aboard the Elysium myself. How was your trip?"

"Ah... the two Marines arrive almost at the same time. Not enough time to explore the depths of the beast." James laughed at himself. "My trip was great. Ten hours from Betazed. Hungry. I might just pay a visit to the canteen after our meeting.

James smiled.

"That sounds good, actually. Let's go, lieutenant," she said tossing the PaDD with his information onto her desk. "You have extensive experience in the Marines," she complimented as she headed out of her office. "Ever think about retiring or changing careers with your doctorate in archaeology?"

“Oh no, I love the Marines actually. I just dont have much combat experience. I am trained well and do know how to defend myself and others, if necessary, Most of my experience has been protective missions and liaison missions between science and security.”

"There's nothing wrong with that," she said, grinning as the two walked down the corridor. "I've always seen the Starfleet Marine Corps as more of a protector. We don't start fights but we will finish them and we protect those who cannot protect themselves."

“Within the first 5 minutes of us meeting we agree on something. Im already liking this relationship.”

Both Naxea and Edith arrive at the mess hall. He walks over to the replicator and orders a classic Philly Cheesesteak. The sandwich materializes. He picks it up and smiles at her while turning toward a table just next to them.

"Argendi sandwich on mapa bread," Naxea ordered as the sandwich materialized. She took the plate containing the sandwich and sat down at the table with Edith. "So, what was your calling? Cause you to join the Marines?" she asked before taking a bite of her sandwich.

“I joined the Marines during the last year of the Dominion War. No one knew at that time the conflict would end, in fact I was recruited during the surge, but then the war came to an end.” He said as he took a bite of his cheesesteak.

“Oh man this is good” as he wiped his lips with the towel next to him and he continued. “I told myself that serving in Star Fleet was much better than sitting behind a desk grading papers. So, here I am”

"It's definitely more exciting," Naxea admitted. "For me, I joined because of the people and officers I met when I was on Deep Space Nine and later New France Colony. I wanted to serve the Federation that helped my people rebuild."

"I admire that. Thank you for your service" he said with a wink. "I dont think people say that enough these days."

He took another big bite of his sandwich and gulped down a glass of classic Coke over ice.

"Service is it's own reward," she replied simply with a shrug. "So, how was it growing up on Luna?"

“Great, I suppose. I know Earth is supposed to be the mother land, where all Humans originated from, but I guess for me, and all those who weren't born on it, its different. I just dont feel the attachment.”

He finished his meal.

"I can understand that," she replied after finishing her final bite of the Argendi Sandwich, studying her new XO. He was fascinating and older than she--something that would intimidate other officers, but not her. Marines knew the chain of command and often followed it religiously despite a person's age or experience. Naxea in such cases however, welcomed the experience and difference. "So, do you have any questions for me?"

After answering Edith's question, Naxea excused herself and made her way back to her office to continue studying her department's manifest and available gear.
