Away team 2 - Lets Blow this joint!

Posted on Thu Jul 25th, 2019 @ 5:12pm by Avalon [ADMIN NPC] & Ensign Kara Hoffman & Lieutenant Commander Turak & Lieutenant Carter Smith

Mission: Episode 1: Hell is a four letter word
Location: Prison Planet
Timeline: MD12
2173 words - 4.3 OF Standard Post Measure

"Shuttle 2, you have a green light, good luck down there." Came the voice of the shuttle chief.

Carter sat in the shuttle pilot's seat. "Confirmed, chief. See you on the flip side." He piloted the shuttle of the bay, meet up with the others, and headed down to the planet.

Anje checked her weapons, fully expecting to find the worst of the fighting yet to have taken place planetside, "When we get down, I'm off the ramp first." She was ranking officer, so it was her command, and she would lead from the front.

"Just remember my favourite bird", Estelle said.

"Great bird, better advice." Anje quipped.

==Planet Side==

The shuttle landed in the forest, 2 klicks from the other two shuttles yet closer to the prison. The large imposing back wall of the prison faced them through the foliage and there was one lone gate and two gate guards

"Seems too easy." whispered Carter.

Kara nodded, and frowned, examining the outside of the large prison facility and the two guards. "You think there's a way to sneak past them?"Whispering, She gestured to the side wall, which was mostly ruined and could be accessed by climbing. "If we can get to that wall without being spotted, I think we could climb over the wall. Seems better than fighting our way in?" She asked quietly.

Lieutenant Holt snorted to himself, but didn't say anything.

Looking at Kara, Turak suggested, "Only one way to find out Lieutenant, I say we give stealth a try."

[[Away teams, please be aware, the fighters are starting their strathing runs!]] Avalons voice crackled in their ear comms.

From his crouched position, River pulled his tricorder from his belt. Moving it in a quick sweep of the area in front of them, he tapped the readout. "If we're going to move, I think this is our chance. Security seems low outside. I don't think they get many visitors to this place."

"Hoffman's right." Anje interjected, "This is way too easy, unless there's something going on we don't know about. Waters, is there a shield around that prison?"

Carter checked the area using his scanner. "No sign of an enforced weapons emplacement past the entrance."

Before Kara could tell the group to move up, Holt had already began to move up to the wall. Arriving, pressed up against it hard, he waved the others over with his arm. "Come, let's move" He whispered quietly.

All Kara could do was sigh. "Well, not much choice now, let's move up team."

Carter stayed on the bottom of the wall, helping the others get up and over, while also providing cover.

Turak setting his phase rifle to heavy stun, moved to the wall with the others. He took a glimpse at his wrist tricorder to ensure that there were no Star Fleet personnel in the vicinity on the other side of the wall. He whispered to the group, "None of our personnel are directly on the other side of this wall. Unless we can find a way in quickly, we might consider a forced entrance."

~Damn him! Damn that man!~ Anje swore mentally as she watched Holt rushing ahead without orders or permission or anything resembling common sense, ~He boo hooed over his last demotion, wait until he gets a load of the one I'm putting him in for.~ She pledged to herself, fully intending to have him busted into the enlisted ranks, "Okay, nobody else move until you get say so from me!" She hissed quietly, furious that she had to remind these people she was in charge.

Seeing that Anje was visually irritated by what Holt had done and trying to bring her back to the mission at hand, he asked, "What are your orders, Commander?"

Smith held his phaser rifle in his hands, looking at Anje for orders.

"We've got no choice now." Anje sighed, "We've got to go in now. I'm on point, you guys cover me. Smith, cover the left, Kara, cover the right, heavy stun settings, we need prisoners just in case."

Turak asked, "would you like me to punch a hole in the wall, Commander?"

Smith nodded, locked his rifle on heavy stun, then took position on the left flank.

Anje turned to Turak and nodded, "Yes." She figured at this point chaos and confusion on their end was a benefit for her and her people.

"Yes, ma'am" Turak said with a slight smile forming at the edge of his lips. He checked his tricorder and found the safest spot on the wall to make entry, there wasn't even an enemy in this area ~for long that is!~ Once chosen, he loaded his grenade launcher and stepped out from the wall that everyone was trying their best to use as cover and fired. Besides the obviously loud noise, there was a burst of flames and flying debris from the jagged hole in the wall. Turak looked at Anje and said, "one hole as ordered, Commander." By this time there were alarms going off and, per his tricorder, personnel headed their way in a hurry...."We have at least 10 incoming personnel."

Estelle ducked behind a doorway. The best place she could be in combat was out of the way to give everyone else a clear shot.

"Alright, let's move." Anje ordered, leaping through the hole headlong, tumbling into firing position as she snapped off a couple shots at oncoming Romulan guards, dropping a pair before moving on to find another position.

Carter was in position when he charged through the hole, his rifle on a constant swivel. When a guard appeared, he dropped him with a shot.

Turak also took a knee behind some of the debris right inside the hole and stunned as many guards and dared show their faces.

------

Inside the prison there was screams of "HELP" in many different languages. Prisoners were yelling, running, or trapped in cells.

Estelle started giving out microtransporters like candy at a carnival. But she made sure that prisoners she didn't recognise got the ones that sent them into the guarded cargo hold. They could sort out later who was in for what, and what to do with them. "These people are malnourished", she remarked. That was something that had to be deliberate, in the day and age of replicators.

Anje, firing rapidly at the guards she saw, kept watch over Estelle, who seemed to be lost in medical land, "Hey, be careful, doc!"

"We've got to get them out of here", Estelle said. "Who knows what they've been through. We can't leave them."

Carter followed the team, looking at the others. "I'll guard the door...the rest of you rescue the others." He went to a kneeling position, snapping off shot after shot when someone came into his line of sight.

River Waters nodded and made his way deeper into the prison. He moved along a row of cells, his rifle at the ready for any surprises. Unfortunately, the surprise that eventually did come was from behind him as one of the prisoners burst from his opened cage and leapt up onto his back.

"No!" The prisoner screamed into his ear. "You're not going to eradicate us! I won't let you!"

Waters had no choice but to drop his weapon as he fought to pull the prisoner's arm from around his throat. He slammed himself back into the wall, but it was not enough to stun his attacker. He was still being held in a death grip fueled by the man's paranoia and insanity. "We're here to help!" River wanted to scream at him. But with his airway cut off all he managed to get out was a strained "Help!"

Smith heard the cry for help, but he couldn't leave his post. At that moment, a Romulan peeked over a barricaded and fired off a shot. Smith targeted the area where the Romulan appeared, and when he showed himself again, he was minus his head.

In a measured response, Estelle loaded a hypo with a tranquilliser and injected the restless prisoner with a liberal dose. She wasn't much of a fighter and considered the chances for all involved much better this way. "Are you all right?" she asked Waters.

River coughed from the effort of drawing a gasp of air into his bruised esophagus. Finally he managed to breathe out. "Thanks, Doctor. I owe you."

Anje was scanning the area, firing at anyone who appeared to be a threat, they could sort them out later. Seeing Estelle tending to a patient she positioned herself between the doctor and the enemy, "Hey, don't forget your favorite bird while you're out here being combat medic, Doc."

Waters lifted his rifle once more. "Ready to keep moving when you are."

Smith kept scanning the area with his eyes, looking for any movement...so far, there was none...with either meant they had already killed the guards of the prison, or they where massing for a counter attack.

Responding to Waters, Turak said, "According to my scans, there are no more guards headed this way. I would say it is temporarily safe to move out - just keep a watch for anything and everything that moves."

Their goal was near. The power generators were their main target. Once they were down, beaming in and out would be easier for them and anyone they rescued.

Looking down at his tricorder, Turak said, "I am seeing a large power signature coming from this direction," pointing down the hallway heading west, "the generator appears to be stored there."

"Well, what are we waiting for?" Estelle asked, now that everyone in this area had been transported to safety. "I'll, uhm, follow someone who knows how to fight."

"I'll scout ahead and check the area." Carter stood up, checked the immediate area, and slowly started towards the area where the readings indicated that the generator was.

Shouldering his phase rifle, Turak followed Carter and said, "I'm right behind you."

"Thankfully I brought my little friends." Anje smiled, pointing to three grenades on her belt, then bending down to pick up an abandoned Romulan disruptor pistol, "Little extra bang for the buck here. Doc, you stay on my six and don't forget your favorite bird, huh? I don't want to face that freakishly large Scottish bitch and have to tell her I lost bestie."

"She's shorter than me, you know?" Estelle smirked. And not just a little bit, but by a hand's width easily. Though, from Anje's perspective, that was probably not all that apparent.

"I'm sure I'd notice that if I didn't look you both right in the tits on my tiptoes." Anje sighed, being short blew. She fired a few more shots down the way, dropping another Romulan and sending more into retreat, "Okay, keep pushing, people!"

"Just go easy on the grenades", Estelle cautioned. "The fewer people I'll have to put together again later, the happier I'll be. And who knows how many others are down there who need rescuing."

She briefly considered making a joke about providing the doctor with job security, but thought better of it lest she be benched by Counselor Cadet Maddy the way Liorga was, ~Damn shame, that recoil joke was kind of funny...~ "Okay, Doc, we'll minimize the carnage as much as possible."

As Turak studied his tricorder again, he noticed that the entrance to the generator was just around the corner. However, he also noticed that there seemed to be two Romulan life signs guarding the entrance. Turak thought of a way to distract them, using his tricorder he isolated an alarm box just beyond the Romulans and made it ring. Just as the Romulans started to run in the direction of the ringing alarm, he peaked around the corner and stunned both guards. "They should be heavily sedated, the entrance to the generator room is this way," he said to the group as he pointed in the direction of the room.

Carter followed Turak towards the entrance to the generator room. "No reading any indications of additional security. But it puzzles me.....is this all the guards that were stationed here, or is there additional personnel, and if so, why didn't they react to the weapons fire?"

One of the marines scanned the area. "Maybe they all fled?"

"Let's not hang around to find out." Anje suggested, setting a twenty second fuse on her grenades and setting the disruptor to overload, tossing them all into the room and shutting the door, "Okay, don't drag your ass if you want to keep it, people!" She called out, moving out double double quick just in case.

[[Elysium to away team 2. Status please]]

=A=Shield generator is...=A= Anje began, cut off by the boom of the device exploding, =A=Down.=A=
