Resolutions on the Gantry

Posted on Sun Mar 1st, 2020 @ 5:25pm by Lieutenant JG Gallia Norris

Mission: Casperia Prime - A lesson in relaxation
Location: Holodeck 3, Kennedy Space Center Launchpad 39A
Timeline: Current (T-Minus 7 Days, 11 Hours, 2 Seconds)
1117 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Jess entered the elevator and rode it up to the Gantry. She was wearing a NASA Jumpsuit, and this was going to be one of her after-duty activities. This was not a program for amateurs. It was an authentic simulation of a Saturn V.

She exited the elevator and walked across the gantry to the capsule hatch for some diagnostics. A technician opened the hatch and she climbed into the commanders chair. The technician began listing off items. "Main Bus A..."

"Check and Check."

"Main Bus B..."

"Check and Check." Vaii noted.

"O2 Cryostir..."

"So why are we here?" Anje sighed, she had no idea what kind of crap Vaii was up to.

"Because you and Jessica need to get to know each other and this will be a better way of doing it than your first attempt." Milla replied, "And you promised me you were going to try."

"Fine, fine." Anje groaned, she was not happy about this and she still did not like that woman.

"Thanks." Milla smiled, kissing her sister's hand.

"An' what am I here far?" Gallia asked, not that she minded, she loved these games and really missed the Lady Aberdeen, not to mention the people who once crewed it.

"To help me keep them from killing each other." Milla shrugged, laughing as she realized she was the only one of them who actually looked like an Astronaut of the time period. As they got to the capsule she leaned in and tapped Jessica's shoulder, "We're here, baby."

"Hey there Milly. Got your homework done?" Jess noted.

"Of course, love." Milla smiled, she had aced her astrometrics test, "No getting lost in the Delta for me."

"I think they're right sweet together, Anje." Gallia whispered to the shorter woman, "Mebbe whet ye need's te spend time together, get te know each other. Ye can tell Milla loves her."

"And she's still only eighteen." Anje replied, "I don't want her to make a mistake and ruin her life...."

"An' me mum an' dad were no any older than that." Gallia reminded her, "An' that turned out jus' fine."

"Maybe...." Anje sighed, Gallia was a romantic, there was no way around it, she had to be more practical, Milla's future meant too much to her.

"So, tell us about the mission." Milla smiled to her fiance.

Jess looked at Anje and decided to extend an olive branch. "We're doing a pre-launch systems check. The Apollo spacecraft was an impressive piece of engineering. The S1C stage is Kerosene and Liquid Oxygen. The F-1 Engines. The S2 and S4B stages were Liquid Hydrogen and Liquid Oxygen. So Commander, Wanna help with the checklist? Milly, you're on a shuttlecraft and you console indicates an EPS overload. The plasma injectors are all green, but the numbers don't add up. What's happening?" Jess sometimes quizzed Milla on some things. The woman really wanted her in a Starfleet Uniform.

Anje began the checklist, though she was listening for Milla's answer, ~At least she cares about Milla's education, that's a good sign.~

"It can be any number of things." Milla replied, "The obvious thing to do is run an internal diagnostic on the console, look for issues there. After that you have to check the injectors themselves to see if there's an issue there. You do all this after taking them offline of course."

"There's no goin' back after they go boom." Gallia laughed, "No bad, Cadet."

"Not bad at y.all, Baby Sister." Anje smiled proudly.

"I know how old Milly is, Commander. That concept was not lost on me when I decided to share my life with her." Jess noted. "I truly want to see her in a Starfleet Uniform. I never thought I'd love, nor have a family. You know the name Lucianna Kessanna? LH flow valves." (Auntie Anje would know her. half of the reason she's kept up at night is to make sure Lucianna never becomes President.)

"My aunt speaks that name like a curse." Anje recounted, though she'd never met the woman herself. (Make sure Lucianna never becomes President or Lucianna trying to make sure Anje never becomes President?)

"Ah heard somewhere she was accused of tray-son by some folks after the Dominion War..." Gallia interjected.

"The only reason she's outside of prison is that she betrayed the Dominion and gave the Federation intelligence that resulted in the world's liberation. She could teach Machivelli a thing or two. Father got me out the Kessanna family before she could break me like she did to her other daughters. Oh... Treason dose not even begin to describe such a woman. Lucianna... hurt me... Hurt me a lot, Commander. So you know I would rather die than to let anyone hurt Milly. It's not going to be easy for us, starting a Starfleet Family. Hell, I have to think about how you feel. That's why we're doing this carefully. If she leaves your family because of me, then I'd never forgive myself." Jess mentioned. "None of this Romeo and Juliette bullshit. APU Check.."

"I know you don't like me, but there's nothing I won't do for her." Jessica noted. "So, are you willing to sign up to spend a week in a capsule the size of my closet? Mila can come."

"You're growing on me, not sure if it's in a good way or in the way a mold or fungus would, but growing on me." Anje answered, "So, let's see what this thing will do."

"I'd take it, lass." Gallia added, "I dinnae think yer gonna get a better offer for a bit. And are we talkin' aboot an actual week here? Because some a us got babies and, sadly, cannae spend a week in the holodeck."

"Naw, we'll take a break from this." Jess noted. "But if you want to learn how to really be good at flying in space. It's always nice to start with the basics. This is just a hobby to pass the time."

"Looks like a blast." Anje nodded, Milla smiling and squeezing her hand.

"The Apollo Program was the most ambitious program of twentieth century earth. In some ways, this was starfleet's infancy, but it was not entirely flawless." Jess noted. "Wanna learn how to become an Astronaut, Anje. It's a hell of a training setup." Jess smiled.

"Hell yeah, let's do this." Anje replied, this was too much fun to even consider not doing.

"Tha's the spirit, lass." Gallia agreed, "Strap a rocket te yer arse an' shoot far the bloody moon!"

"Wanna head Mission Control, Gallia?" Jess asked. "We'll need to take a crew picture soon."

"Aye." Gallia nodded, "An' I think we can do just that."
