Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
1337 words - 2.7 OF Standard Post Measure

Sthilg had been on his feet for hours and now after having finished another operation, the Elysium chief MD felt he could collapse into his chair.

He'd not done this much work since the dominion war and even the jem hadar hadn't been as brutal as the terran empire. Pouring himself some coffee he switched on an old recording of his wife singing. he let himself relax in the mild light of his office wondering what Knightmare he'd have to fix next.

Olivia had kept busy with various surgeries herself in between helping with checking over other crew members that were brought in for treatment for various injuries. She took time now to go check up on Dr Sthlig to see how he was holding up. Olivia stopped at his office door and watched for a moment before interrupting the good doctor. “I hope you are thinking about a good time there with your wife singing for you,” Olivia said.

The gorn nodded. " I recorded thisss after ssshe found out ssshe was pregnant. Ssshe wanted it to be a gift to her baby." he said thinking of happier times to the soft tone of the music.

Olivia smiled a little as she listened to the song a little more. "I'm sure she is teaching your daughter all sorts of songs right now," Olivia replied. "Preparing for the day when you are reunited as a family down the road."

" They both are. " The gorn said remembering his time in the hunting ground. " How are you holding up Olivia?" He said looking up at his second in command.

“I’m hanging in there,” Olivia replied. “I will be glad when we can put this mission behind us and move onto something better. How is your jaw doing?”

" Better though it feelsss sssmall compared to what others have been through. " The gorn said knowing some of what he'd have to fix would haunt him for the rest of his life.

“Main thing is we got you fixed up properly along with everyone else once we got back here,” Olivia replied. “Both of us along with everyone else will have to check in with Counselors per the Captain’s orders. Main thing is to work our way past what we just went through and being able to move forward.”

" Indeed." the gorn replied nodding. " I hope they have enough ssstaff at the medical facility. We're going to need it."

"I'm sure something will be figured out schedule wise if need be," Olivia replied. "Hopefully we can get things worked out on several things while we are at the station before we get orders for our next mission."

The gorn nodded and was silent for a while before he finally spoke. " Olivia am i a good man?"

"I haven't know you all that long," Olivia replied, "but in the short time I have know you, I think you are a good man. You are nothing like the one we came across in the alternate time line."

" Yet that thing was trying to turn my ssship matesss into copiesss of my dead wife. " The gorn said as he scratched his head. " I'm sssorry for bringing it up, but it keepsss bothering me. Why wasss he doing it? Did he lossse her like i did and thought he could bring her back?"

"Anything is possible," Olivia replied. "Who knows the true reason as to why he was doing such a thing. We all react differently to pain and loss of someone we care about no matter what time line. Main thing is we are back in our own time line and we were able to fix things back to our normal."

" Going to be a long road for all of usss." The doctor replied slumping in his chair again. He was tired. " Have you transferred any data on the mirror verssse to the medical file we've been collecting? I'm sssue intel will be after it when we reach are destination." he asked

“I’ve transferred over some of the information so far,” Olivia replied. “I still have a few more things to finish up notes wise and send a copy over to the file.”

" Very good." The reptile replied nodding. " At leassst sssome good will come from thisss."

"Who knows what will come from the information that we send over to Starfleet Intel guys as well as the Medical guys," Olivia said. "I have a feeling that it will keep them all busy for months to come."

" I'm sssure the intel boysss and girlsss will get sssomething out of it. Hopefully thisss will never happen again." the old doctor replied.

"Now the question is how much of the serum that I ended up with do we send onto Starfleet Medical?," Olivia asked. "Somehow the serum mysteriously found its way into my stuff before we came back. I've been going through the notes that sent with the serum vials, and from the looks of it, my alternate was working on a way for S'hib in the alternate universe to mate and have offspring with someone not of his own race."

" I'd say it'sss rather odd, but nothing is odd about that universsse. I'd sssend as much to ssstarfleet medical as you want, but i wouldn't mind taking a look at sssome of it given my sddpecialty." The doctor said his interest peaked.

"Alot of things are odd or strange about the other universe we came back from," Olivia replied. "I'm thinking about sending two of the vials on to Starfleet Medical, since I ended up with six of them among my stuff. That way we can keep some on hand to check out and not use up all of it or lose all of it either. That way you could do a bit of testing yourself outside of whatever Starfleet Medical does with what is sent to them."

" Sssounds good." The gorn replied nodding. " Maybe we can get sssome good of that twisssted world."

"We definately could use some good after what we went through," Olivia replied. "Who knows what we will end up learning from the serum."

"indeed," Sthilg said as he picked up his coffee. " To good newsss."

"To good news," Olivia said with a bit of a smile. "Now you need to make sure you get some rest at some point. Got to make sure that your jaw has time to recover a bit more after everything that has happened."

" I'll try. It'sss been hard trying to fall asssleep in my room after thossse animalsss trassshed it. " the gorn responded.

"Do I need to see about drafting some help in getting things straightened up in your room?," Olivia asked.

" That would be appreciated. Though I don't know how I can replace some of the ruined booksss." he said sadly.

"I will arrange some help for straightening up things for you," Olivia replied. "Don't do away with the books that got damaged. There is a possibility of doing some repair work on them. Just have to see how bad the damage is to them and go from there on fixing them."

" I've not thrown any away, but sssome of them ae beyond sssaving i'm afraid." he replied bittery.

"Who knows, there is still a chance that they could be saved," Olivia replied.

" I hope ssso sssome of them are firssst editionsss." The doctor replied. " Thank you for this talk Olivia."

"I'm sure that we can get them back in shape with a little work," Olivia replied. "Got to keep you with us for as long as we can Doc. There is still a lot that you can teach us. Plus, you know that I'm always around to talk when needed."

"I'll be around for a few centuriesss yet." the gorn replied with a chuckle as Olivia left his office. Picking up a few pads he headed for his quarters to try and get some sleep.
