Lucianna stood upon a new world's surface. It was lush and warm. Full of Jungles and Savannahs. But it was nothing her people had not endured before. Lucianna looked at her people, now disembarking from the many transports. She picked a less treacherous clearing in the forrest to build their city.
"Matriarch. It will be a challenge to live here." Her steward Ciyanna noted.
"It has been a challenge to live anywhere, being chased by the Terran Empire." Lucianna noted.
"Do you mean to resume our fight against the Empire?" Lucianna looked at the scenery. "No... My battle was always for Clan Kessanna's survival. We, the last unspoiled clan of Betazed." Lucianna mentioned.
"What of the Rebels." Ciyanna mentioned. "If they find themselves here, we will aid them." Lucianna stated. "But one does not gain anything by waging war that ends with your own destruction. This decision, I did not make lightly. We could not live another generation as wanderers in makeshift tugs and freighters, avoiding the Terrans and the Alliance. We left no clue where we went.
"What of Jessica... The one here." Ciyanna mentioned. Lucianna sighed. "I lost her years ago. It was vanity to chase after her, and right now there's probably nothing left. I had to choose; my clan, or my daughter." Lucianna mentioned. "But I will still love the Jessica here as if she was my daughter and offer her a place here. I love all in my clan as family, but the decisions I must make... I will make for a future for our people." Lucianna mentioned.
"There will be a future for Clan Kessanna, even if I must sacrifice my heir." Lucianna stated. "Even if my line must end."
"Could Jessica lead us? She seems to be a strong and capable warrior-poet for our people." Lucianna smiled. "Indeed. What do you think Ciyanna. This Jessica is not a replacement for my daughter, but she has my same poise and bearing. Could it be possible that the universe we left has conspired with this one to transpose the woman who should have been my daughter?"
"Stranger things have happened, mi'lady." Ciyanna stated. Lucianna's Grand Vizier approached. "Koran. Speak to me of our diplomacy. What are our neighbors like in this strange realm?"
The elder man spoke with a dignified voice. "The Romulans are not the short-tempered, noble people they were in our realm. They are now short-tempered treacherous beings who like their cloaking devices too much, and believe themselves superior to everyone. A Romulan here would betray even another Romulan for his or her own agenda."
"No matter what Universe we come to. There will be treachery." Ciyanna stated with a sigh.
"The Klingons are the same warriors here as well, only they are more honorable than treacherous here. Not that many Klingons are not treacherous. They struggle endlessly between past and future. Trying to create an 'undiscovered country.' They quote human Shakespeare, and drink bloodwine." Koran mentioned.
"We may have something in common with them, but then again... we've fought our wars. There is no honor nor glory in slaughter." Ciyanna mentioned. "Do these Klingons understand that truth?"
"Cardassians?" Lucianna mentioned.
"A broken and shattered people with a weak civilian government, a weakened military that once dominated them, and fools who pine for their past glories. But there was nothing glorious about the Cardassian Union." Koran mentioned. "The Military was as corrupt as the government the Military claimed to save their world from in the past. Texts and histories that did not glorify the state is rare to find, but I've succeeded in finding some works that were smuggled to the Federation, mi'lady."
"Another Terran Empire?" Ciyanna mentioned.
"No.... Just because the Military rules, does not make a nation oppressive. Tyranny can come from an emperor, a council, nobles, and especially the people. Even more so from a mob." Lucianna mentioned. "Do not mistake democracy for wise rule, Ciyanna. It has an unfortunate history of creating un-elected tyrants. I would prefer the leadership of a farmer over the uselessness and words of a bureaucrat." Lucianna said gesturing her position with a closed hand. "True leaders prove themselves worthy to lead through the errs they make in their lives."
"Which is why you lead, Matriarch." Ciyanna noted.
"I never wanted this burden, Ciyanna. I was content, ruling a house. Ruling a Clan is like solving problems with no solutions. "What of the Breen, the Ferengi, the Gorn, and the Tholians?"
"The Breen are an enigma ruled by self-interest here. The Ferengi are unscrupulous charlatans. The Gorn... Pragmatic and reasonable, but the Tholians are like the Breen...."
"An enigma governed by self-interest." Ciyanna finished for the Vizier. "We traded a treacherous universe for a treacherous universe."
"You will find that there is a marked improvement in civility here than under the iron fist of the Empire. Steward." Kroan replied.
"The Erisians?" Lucianna asked.
"We don't know. The Federation knows of them... But we haven't received word of them yet." Koran mentioned.
"Best to keep our ambitions few for now. There is not always a need for diplomacy." Ciyanna mentioned. "Perhaps it is better to remain unnoticed by even this noble Federation for now."
"They will demand Diplomacy once they learn of our existance." Koran countered.
"Then we will give Diplomacy when asked." Lucianna concluded the argument. "We're not here for the ambitions of an empire, We know how those ambitions served the Terrans and the Alliance. This universe may have more ambitions than the one we left behind."
Koran responded. "That is why we require some presence for diplomacy, Matriarch."
"The Federation seems skilled in such matters, Koran can have his diplomacy with them. We should trust few, mi'lady, until we know the intentions of our neighbors." Ciyanna advised.
"Wise words, Ciyanna. I will not invite too many ambassadors without the skill of the Federation's diplomacy. You have my blessings to engage in your diplomacy, Koran. Now I must take my leave. I must rest, as I have been awake for the last thrity-six hours."
