Baeryn stood outside of Carrington’s ready room. She wasn’t thrilled about meeting one on one with the cut throat woman but she couldn’t very well avoid her either, especially not as second officer. The hybrid would much rather spar with the marines then be alone with Carrington. But there was that small part of her that was ashamed for judging the woman before getting to know her..... then she remembered how she easily Lovejoy and Carrington threatened to use the brig as a disciplinary measure and the feeling was gone before she knew it. Tapping the chime she waited, half hoping to be ignored.

Yasmine looked up from another report, sighed. "Come!" she called out.

The door swooshed open and Baeryn entered, she stood directly in front of the captains desk, hands locked together at the small of her back.

"Captain." She said dipping her head minimally.

"Ah Lieutenant Whavi. What brings you by?" Yasmine asked and waved Baeryn to a chair. "Please have a seat."

Eyeing the seat she debated on how causal she intended this first one on one to be. Not wanting to ruffle feathers she accepted and took a sat. "Thank you. I hope I'm not interrupting you." Her gaze drifted to the report in front of the captain.

"No, nothing that cannot wait to be honest. I thought paperwork as an executive officer was constant, CO's just get it worse." Yasmine sat back. "How are you settling in to your new role?"

"Ask me in a few days and I might have a more reassuring answer for you Captain." The corner of her lips perked up into a grin. "If I'm being honest, I'm here to break the ice. To learn more of what you'll be expecting of me as your second."

"Basically, you and Commander Lovejoy will work closely together, to maintain crew cohesion, a difficult task, when faced with the misplaced loyalty of certain crew, but I am sure you will prevail. Commander Lovejoy is very good at his job and should have been in the current role years ago. You will learn lots from him."

"I'm sensing a lot of paperwork in my immediate future." Baeryn raised her brows. She was struggling. She didn't know this woman sitting in front of her and wanted badly to keep the peace, but who would she be if she failed to voice her concerns? She knew losing her current position due to questioning command would negatively reflect her record, but was that enough to keep her mouth shut?

"I would hope that the disciplinary actions taken during yesterdays meeting do not become perennial. I respect that its not my place to question Lovejoy's style, but I don't operate that way."

"As long as the crew understand that, I am not Phoenix Lalor. I do not allow deviation from the regulations. My expectations are that things be done the way the fleet want them done."

"I'm sure they are all more then aware of that fact Captain." Baeryn bit the inside of her cheek, she hadn't intended on coming off snarky.

"They should have been aware prior to my arrival. Lalor was very lax in her disciplinary style."

"Did you know Lalor well?" Or at all she thought to herself.

"No We met once or twice but no not well at all." Carrington replied.

Baeryn was quiet for a split second. Knowing Carrington wouldn't tolerate her defending the actions of Captain Lalor she held the praise for the woman to herself. "Unfortunate. If it's not to much to ask. I would like to oversee all further disciplinary actions. Being that the crew is more familiar with me it may ease the transition in command for everyone." She paused, knowing it wasnt the responsivity she wanted but if she could keep the crew from confined quarters or the brig she would do what she had to. "With your approval of course."

Yasmine considered it. "You will run it past Commander Lovejoy." She tempered. "Is that okay?"

Finding herself biting the inside of her cheek once more she gave a tight nod. "Of course Captain." She had a difficult time believing her own words. Lovejoy. She knew as second officer she would be working more closely with him then Carrington and she couldn't say she was pleased about it.

"Lovejoy has history with several officers on this ship Lieutenant. He was here when their entire senior staff, Lalor, the Taylors and the former chief of Helm, were captured by Romulans. He saw how this crew reacted."

"And was that not to his liking?"

"From reports, the Chief of Science was very upset and lost her temper at him. Not to mention another officer who was with Lovejoy tried to send a minor back to her home planet. The crew were not impressed."

"I can see where the clash could cause the tension I feel now. Did Lovejoy depart on unfavorable terms then? I was originally under the impression he hadn't."

"From reports, he has been very vocal against Lalor and her command crew. And then there are the rumours he was having an affair with the then Chief Engineer, who is now the assistant Chief Engineer, something his partner and son would not be appreciative of hearing about. Seems that there was a lot of Friction between Garrett and the crew. But that withstanding, he is a superb officer, one who has long been tapped for an executive officer posting. In fact, he should have been the XO of the Elysium after Admiral Sharr resigned."

"I see. The engineer, Kara is it? I'm sure there will be no issues on that front as she is engaged to Lieutenant Norris. Will your family be joining us on the Elysium as well?"

"No. My Fiancé is Captain of the Hydrana." Yasmine said with a smile.

"Ah! congratulations! I'm not sure how much of a fan I would be to have a post anywhere but close to my significant other. "

"Yes well, he supports my choice of career." Yasmine replied. "And He is close to promotion to a desk job."

"I don't know if I'll ever be ready for a desk job! I like being where the action is, you know, the front line." Baeryn smiled, then stood. "Well I believe I've taken up enough of your time Captain, I know you have quite the stack of paperwork to get back to. I do appreciate you taking the time to chat with me."

"You are welcome Lieutenant. My door is always open." Yasmine said with a smile.

"As is mine." She nodded to Carrington then headed for the door. One on one the Captain gave quite a different impression then she had at the senior staff meeting. Causing more internal turmoil within Baeryn then she expected.

Yasmine watched her go and then turned her gaze back to her reports.
