4235 words - 8.5 OF Standard Post Measure

The hot water wasn’t enough to remove the now caked on waffle batter from her hair, she had to scrub and scrub. All while attempting to keep her emotions boxed in. It would have been easy to release them and fall apart. Baeryn was an expert at picking herself up and putting together the pieces, but she didn’t want to fall into her same old routine. David deserved better then that, he shouldn’t be pushed away and closed off from her. No matter what her pride kept telling her.

After twenty minutes in the shower she exited the bathroom in new clothes. She ran her tongue over her freshly minted teeth. Then let out a sigh. This next part would be the hardest. The most challenging. But she wouldn’t break, she told herself.

Baeryn slowly decended the stairs, she detested how different this time was compared to a mere 40 minutes ago, there was no singing, the smell of breakfast lingered but wasn’t as powerful as it had been. Focused on her breathing she entered the kitchen.

David was sitting at the table, elbows on the tabletop, his back to the stairs. His head was resting in his hands and the strength he usually carried effortlessly seemed suddenly sapped. He wasn't like he was back during that fateful night on the ship when she hsd left him. No, this was pure emotional sadness.

Hearing her on the steps, he turned in his seat to look at her. "You okay?" His vouce was full of love, pain, hope and sadness.

Baeryn struggled to keep eye contact, knowing David could read the emotions on her face, but she braved it anyway. He doesn’t deserve to be pushed away, she kept telling herself. She simply nodded in answer to his question. Moving across the kitchen, Baeryn slowly and gently pushed David so that his back was against the chair and she was able to straddle him.

Her obsidian eyes moved from his mouth to his eyes, she traced his right eyebrow with her middle finger, then down the side of his face to his lips. “I’m sorry.” She whispered. She felt her voice crack and tried not to let it anger her.

Gently wrapping his arms around her, David then moved his right hand up to carefully move the wet strands of hair that had fallen down into her face. His face was a mask of loving concern for the woman before him. "It's okay, Baer," he said softly. Then he took in a deep breath, held it and released it slowly through his nostrils. "Baeryn," he began, his voice calm and loving. "I know there's something you've been hesitant to tell me. I can feel it, remember?" He gave her a slight grin, then turned back to the way he was before. "Please tell me. You are safe here. I will never think less or love less. I want to know everything about you." His bright cerulean eyes dancing back and forth, swimming through her deep obsidian pools. "Please." He asked, his voice quiet.

Baeryn was silent for a while, allowing David to look into her soul, as if she was laying all her broken pieces out for the first time ever. Revealing the monster she was, silently hoping he wouldn't turn and run. She gave him entry into the horrors trapped in her head. The beautiful mess that she was. Then she leaned in and kissed his forehead. Opening herself like this was the most frightening thing she had ever experienced, and only through her love for this male was she able to do so.

"I just hope that when you learn all there is to know about me you still love me." She sat back, searching those ocean eyes again before continuing. "I got carried away earlier, I don't even know what possessed me to bite you so hard. I never wanted to actually harm you. But, I walked away because something in me told me you were going to leave, or rather ask me to leave and before you could say those words to me I left. I know that I don't deserve you and no matter how many times you tell me I'm enough, part of me refuses to believe that." She sighed and closed her eyes.

David looked up into Baeryn's deep, dark, beautiful eyes for several minutes while he held her. Finally, he reached back, took her left hand and placed it over his heart. He knew she could feel how strongly it beat in his chest. "You feel that? While it does pump to keep me alive, it beats for only you. There is nothing that you can tell me from your past, no injury you received or gave, nothing, short of being the Borg Queen, will make me love you less or want you less than I do right now."

Baeryns hand lightly traveled towards the still red bite mark on David's chest, " Even after this?" The queasy feeling visited her stomach again but Baeryn ignored it.

Taking a gental hold of her hand, he placed it firmly on the quickly healing wound. Never taking his eyes off of hers, he answered lovingly. "Even after this, Dremopa."

Baeryn held her breath when David pressed her palm over the wound. Then after a moment she released her breath slowly, "What does that mean?"

"It means beloved bondmate." David answered. "On my language, there is no word that conveys more love, acceptance and commitment to another. It is not used lightly. When on El Aurian finally says it to the one they choose, they agree, without question, to take on the burdens of their bondmate as if they were their own. This is how certain of you, of us, I am. There is no where in all of creation that I want to be, than by your side."

Baeryn's throat went dry. A small panic started to burrow in her chest as she failed to say anything in return. Why was it so difficult to tell him how she felt? She had no problem showing it, what stopped her from voicing it? Fear that one day, a day too near in the future David would grow sick of Baeryn's inability to voice how she felt. Snuffing the fear as best she could Baeryn took David's face in both her hands and kissed him so fiercely the fire in her roared alive.

David accepted Baeryn's kiss with equal heat in return. It would take time, he realized. He had no doubt that Baeryn loved him. He just didn't know what was holding her back from saying the words. Of course, he would remain patient. Words were but sounds. Actions and behaviors spoke much louder. And Baeryn's actions were near operatic in their sound. Moving his hands over her back, he held her firmly, but, allowed her to direct the way things went.

The heat and passion flooded Baeryn's senses, her kisses grew more urgent, like she was running out of time and needed as much of him as she could attain. She shifted slightly, pressing her body closer to his. Then a deep rumble sounded from her stomach. Her bodies angry cry for food was louder then anything in the room. It sent her into a fit of laughter. “I think I need food.” She pressed her forehead to David.

David was certainly feeling the heat that they were creating. When Baeryn pressed herself to him, he thought they'd be heading back to the bedroom. Then her stomach growled like a starving Gorn, causing him to chuckle as well. When Baeryn then asked for food, he kissed her nose and said, "Well then, you'll need to free the cook from your lovely bonds so he can make you some food."

Baeryn groaned in protest, not relishing the idea of removing herself from his lap. She seemed to hold him tighter, kissing a trail towards his ear where she licked his earlobe then whispered, "Only if he promises to return to me."

Inhaling deeply, David slowly ran his hands over Baeryn's backside, finally squeezing her ass with both hands. He whispered in reply, "He always will."

Snickering Baeryn leaned back and opened her arm, "Well as long as that's the case, I release you from my clutches." She didn't move to get up wondering if David would lift her.

Chuckling a slightly mischievous chuckle, David slid his hands from Baeryn's ass, up to her armpits, and lifted her up as he stood. Raising her up to full arms length above him, he said, "Who are you kidding? You'll never release me from your clutches." Lowering her down slowly, until the were face to face, he said in a whisper. "Nor would I want you to." He leaned his head in and kissed her.

Baeryn returned his kiss, she was having trouble letting David go, even if it was to the other side of the kitchen. When had she become so clingy? "You're mine, and I am yours, to whatever end."

Smiling, David nodded. "To whatever end." He then lowered her to the floor and moved off to make her a delicious breakfast.

Moving to stand on the other side of the island in the kitchen she leaned on her elbows, her chin in her hand as she watched him move about. "Can I help?"

Moving about the kitchen. Obviously in his element, David paused slightly to lean across the island, a smile playing across his face. "I'm still not sure that you aren't a spy, sooooo," he pointed to the cabinet behind her. "You can set the table. The dishes are up there, the silverware is in the drawer below." He then spun away, humming another song from the distant past as he got everything together. Then, after adding the secret ingredient without letter Baeryn see it, he picked up a hand whisk and started to briskly mix the batter together.

Rolling her eyes she said, "I can not confirm nor deny your accusations sir." then headed for the cabinet he had pointed out. Puling out two plates Baeryn made sure to take special care, knowing everything in the cabinet was far older then she could even imagine. She found place mats and silverware and set the table, putting her seat next to David's rather then across from him. Little actions like this caught her off guard, she did them without thought, always wanting to be close to him. Once the table was set she went for her coffee cup she had let earlier and reheated it, then kissed David's back before bringing her cup with her to the window. "I hope it rains while we're here."

As David poured the next batch of waffles on the iron and closed the id, he replied. There's some storms scheduled for the next three days, starting tonight."

Baeryn tried to hide her enormous smile by bringing her cup to her lips. Keeping her face towards the window she stated, "It looks so beautiful right now, its hard to believe it will storm later." What Baeryn missed most about being planet side was the changing weather conditions. How unpredictable it could be, and most of all getting caught in the rain. Her thoughts lingered to her father, she welcomed the memory of running from the vehicle to the home with her dad. Baeryn tucked the cup against her chest as she gazed out the window into the bright blue sky.

A few minutes later, and David had laid out a nice table of food. There were waffles, toast, sausage links, three different jams, coffee and orange juice. Sitting down, he smiled at Baeryn. "Enjoy."

Pulling away from the window Baeryn realized she had gotten lost in the memory for longer then she expected, she hadn't even realized David brought breakfast to the table. Silently she vowed to return David's generosity somehow, creatively that is. Sitting down next to David she took in the spread before them. Laughing she said, "I don't even know where to start, you've given me so many options!"

Smiling, he said, "When I'm not sure, I just divr right in to the middle. He put two Belgian Waffles on his plate. Then syrup, then he cut a piece and held it out to Baeryn.

Baeryn narrowed her eyes at the fork extended to her. “You do realize this is exactly how you started this entire relationship or ours.” She gave him a sly grin before wrapping her lips around the still warm waffle, the butter and syrup combination made her moan.

"Hey," he said with a grin, "At least I'm consistent." It warmed his heart to see her enjoying the food he had made for her. "So you like?"

“Mmmhmmmm” was all the reassurance she gave him before filling her own plate with a waffle, and dousing it with the sweet syrup. Before long she was four bites in and dancing in her seat. “I think you should make breakfast everyday. I’m going to build you a kitchen on the Elysium, oh! Tayalas would love these!!” Baeryn, wearing her happiest smile turned to David,” Thank you for breakfast.” She leaned in and kissed David on the cheek, a tiny smudge of syrup there.

David continued to smile as he watched Baeryn happily gobble up the food he had made. "Well, before you made my a kitchen, we'd need to be living together." He playfully thought aloud, "Now, whst would I need to do, to get the Chief of Operations of one of the biggest ships in the fleet, to allow me to move in eith you, possibly to larger quarters, you know, for the kitchen." He winked at her as he finished speaking.

Baeryn’s face turned beet red and she looked back to the food on her plate. Tentatively she asked,” If I tell you something do you promise not to laugh?”

Turning serious, David turn to face Baeryn. "Baeryn, you have my word that, whenever you something to tell me, and it's something yoy feel is important, or it either concerns or worries you, I will never laugh." He then waited quietly for her to speak.

Baeryn blew out a breath and chuckled nervously, "I’ve never actually shared quarters with anyone- I mean of course in the academy I shared a dorm and for a few months when I was posted on the Rosenbloom I had a quarter mate, but what I’m trying to say... is that I’ve never shared a space with someone who meant something to me....not that I didn’t care for my roommates but-ugh.” Baeryn felt flustered and embarrassed, even with something some would consider a small ordeal.

David took Baeryn's trembling hands into his strong, gentle hands and gave her a kind, understanding, grin. "Hey, look at me," he said softly. "If you feel unsure about us living together, then we won't. Not until you're ready. Okay?"

"It's not that I'm unsure, or that I don't want to. I just- don't want to rush into it. I barely spend any time in my quarters as it is, and I enjoy having you there but I think I'd like to wait a bit. Besides, when you move in with me, and I say that because I don't think the chief of ops living in the barracks would go over well with the captain and xo," she laughed at the thought," you'll never be able run from me. You'll be finding your self needing far more naps then normal." She gave David a teasing smile.

Nodding in understating, David responded. "Okay, so we wait. I will never ask you to do something that you are not comfortable with, okay?" Then he chuckled. "We might need to keep a combat medic on constant standby, to replenish our spent fluids." He winked playfully at her as he finished speaking.

The wink sent Baeryn's center throbbing, the way her body reacted to David was still so unexpected. No one had ever kept her coming back for more the way he did, no one set her on fire with just a smile or a flash of his ocean eyes like he did. She turned to her plate before she jumped on him again, ignoring her bodies basic needs was so easy when all she wanted was to feel the bliss his touch gave her. "I'm sure those arrangements could be made, might be more of a necessity." Baeryn smirked as she cut another piece of waffle, added some fruit to her fork then popped it in her mouth.

David smiled broadly. His own senses wete telling him that Baeryn was feeling extremely aroused. He was always ready to go when it came to Baeryn. He had never felt this level of arousal before in his life. It qas yet another indicator that she was the only one for him. "I agree, wholeheartedly." His voice was heavy, but his body was also starving. Turning back to his food, he said, "Best foll up on the carbs. You're gonna need the energy later." Then he started to eat.

David's comment merited a bright smile and chuckle from Baeryn. "Aye Corporal." She said before finishing her waffle and moving on to the sausage.

*A few hours Later*

David had raved about some movie from the 21rst century that she had never heard of. SPACEBALLS The joy and laughter the movie gave David was more then enough to deem it her new favorite earth film.

Before Baeryn knew it the sky was turning a dark red, the sun making its descent and casting a rusty glow over the land. Sitting with her legs in David's lap she sipped her wine as the porch swing swayed back and forth.

"Sunrise or sunset?" She asked continuing a game of this or that.

David was happy and content. The past two days werewhat he wanted from life. Mostly. He had spent time, with the woman he was bonded to, and loved more than anything else, in the house he had hoped would be a home one day. The only thing that would make things better, would be if there were a few children playing in the yard.

Sitting in the front porch swing with Baeryn, her feet up on his lap, his long legs gently swing them back and forth. In his right hand, he had a matching wine glass. His left, was busy giving Baeryn a foot rub on the balls of her bare feet. Taking a moment, he replied. "Sunset." He then thought of the next selection. "Beach or mountains?"

“Mountains.” There was no hesitation in her response. To give David a little background she added, “My father and I had a cabin in the Adirondacks, on Blue Ridge mountain. We spent a lot of winters up there as well as summers, it used to be my favorite place in the whole universe.” She sighed happily, and took another sip of her wine.

“Book or movie?”

"Hmmm," David thought about it. "I suppose book. It makes you actually create the world your reading about, instead of simply watching someone else's imagination."

"Shower or tub?"

"Depends on the activity. Am I alone?"

Smiling, David made a clicking sound with his tongue. "Come on now. You know the rules. No added infor from the asker." He gave her right foot a little tickle as punishment.

The tickle came as a surprise and as she laughed she pulled her legs back and nestled them under David's thigh. She looked directly into David's eyes and said, "Tub, I happen to enjoy bubble baths by candle light." She winked at David before leaning back.

"Top or Bottom?" Baeryn averted her eyes to her glass of wine as she lifted it to her lips and took a large sip.

David didn't need to look at Baeryn to know that she had hidden her face after asking such a loaded question. But he did anyway. "While I do enjoy being on the bottom sometimes, I am definitely a top."

"Top or bottom?" He pointedly looked at her when he asked.

"Top, I like being in control, if you couldn't tell." Baeryn wrinkled her nose as she smiled.

The sun had finally set, encasing them in darkness with just the sounds of crickets to keep them company. There was a cool breeze that swept across the porch, as if a giant door opened and let the rain through. It started as a drizzle, but quickly the water droplets doubled in size and sound.

Baeryns face lit up with excitement as she let out a small gasp. She leaned backwards over the edge of swing and porch, reaching out a land to feel the rain in her palm.

David laughed softly. Then, after finishing his wine, carefully stood up and ran out into the rain, raising his face skyward and stretching his arms out from his sides, he revelled in the cool drops.

Baeryn would never turn down an opportunity to stand in the rain. To feel the cold bite of the rain drops when they hit her skin, soaked her hair. Her movements were slow. At first standing on the porch steps with her palms out letting little pools collect in her hands. One step at a time, until she stood near David. Baeryn’s clothes were drenched in a matter of seconds. Closing her eyes and leaning her head back she started to laugh.

Looking down at Baeryn, David smiled, his heart warmed by her excitement. Lowering his arms, he said to her, "You truly are quite beautiful, Baeryn. I am do thankful that I finally found you and have you by my side."

The rain fall caused Baeryn to blink as she looked up at David. “You’re not so bad yourself Corporal.” With a wink and a taunting smile Baeryn backed away, a tiger ready to run.

David chuckled. Baeryn always referred to him by his rank when she was starting to feel playful. Giving her a sideways look, he grinned. "Baeryn?" What's going on in that head of yours?" As he spoke, he tensed his body slighty, ready to give chase.

Turning, Baeryn set off running through the ran. Her bare feet gliding across the wet grass beneath her. She knew it was hopeless to think she could outrun David, he could do laps around her for hours and never break a sweat. It was the thrill of being chased that she loved, that she craved. The excitement that rushed through her veins when he caught her was all the momentum she needed.

Laughing a little, David decided to give Baeryn a headstart. He didn't want the game to end too quickly. As he was about to set out after her, he saw the path she was taking and decided on a different tactic. Quickly, he sprinted around to the back of his, no, their home. He would be able to get into position in the bushes before she rounded the house on tbe other side. There he would wait, silently, as only the Ghostwalker can.

It took Baeryn a second to realize David wasn’t following her. She fought the disappointment but slowed, turning her face to the sky. She proceeded into the back yard, smiling to herself. This was what she missed most about Earth. The rain. The smell it left behind, the sounds of it on the rooftops and on the streets. Loud and angry but also, comforting.

David was quiet, still as the house to his back. He saw Baeryn enter the backyard, he smiled to himself. She was almost in reach. Just a few more paces and he would have her.

Baeryn turned hoping she would of caught David coming for her, but no such luck. She stopped and contemplated turning back to the front yard. It took her a few moments to debate with herself but decided she didn’t know the next time she would be able to enjoy the rain, so she turned again proceeding further into the backyard.

As Baeryn passed in front of David, her back to him he smiled a wolf grin. A lightning bolt lit up the sky suddenly. David appreciated how its electric blue-white light lit up Baeryn's wet skin. She was beautiful. He felt lucky to be with her.

Without a sound, he stepped out from the foliage and stopped right behind her. "Boo" he said quietly into her right ear.

Baeryn jumped twice, first from the lighting, then at David’s close proximity. Her hand shot to her chest as she yelped. When she turned to face him, she was still trying to blink away the raindrops that gathered on her lashes. The hybrid tapped him with the back of her hand. “Don’t you know how dangerous it is to sneak up on a Romulan spy?!”

“Well, if you are a spy, then I’ll have to interrogate you at once!” Without a word, David scooped Baeryn up in his arms and, kissing her gently, carried her back into the house.
