Mission:
Darkness Rising - A Phoenix Lalor Sub Plot
Location: Black Watch,
Timeline: MD11
1098 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure
Lily had been planning since they returned to the Watch. She had a plan. And she knew people were gonna hate the idea. She gathered everyone in the common area. "Okay... after the intel we gathered over the past few days, I think I have a plan to get to Cragen."
Malakai bit. "What sort of a plan? If you don't mind me asking." He asked, his arms folded over his chest as he waited for Lily to divulge her plan to the group.
Mattias was leaning against the bulkhead, behind everyone, as he got ready to listen to Lily give her briefing.
"Cragen is hosting a Gala Night." Lily said. "Invitation only. Sasha has the skills and I know she can get us a personalised Invitation. One catch, only those with money and status are invited. So there will need to be a massive background created for us."
"How massive?" Mattias asked.
"Deep background, so deep they will never suspect we are fake. Kara, i think you would be prefect to be the main star for this next stage. I can help with etiquette and such if you need it." Lily said.
"I could go in as bodyguard," Mattias said.
Kara looked at Lily in surprise, she knew about her pregnancy yet she wanted to put her out front for Cragen to see. “Me?” She looked at Malakai knowing he wouldn’t like it one little bit.
"Yes you. Mattias and Malakai can be your body guards. The rest of us can be members of your entourage. "
Kara nodded. “So what exactly is this deep cover? What do I have to do?”
Mattias looked over at Malakai and nodded. They might never be friends but, they shared one goal in common. The protection of Kara.
"Basically not much. Dress the part, act like you own the world, walk like you .. we can work on the walk and poise." Lily said.
Sasha looked around. "I'll get started on the cover and access."
Lily nodded "thanks Sasha"
“Wait... who am I supposed to be? Some glorified rich woman or something?” Kara looked at Lily curiously. “Are we going as ourselves this time, or still using the holo disguises?”
Mattias spoke up first. "I'd say, for this, we go as ourselves. We'd be in character l9nger than the battery life on the holoimagers anyway. Also, while Malakai and I would be her hired muscle, she would still need a woman bodyguard to go with her where we can't go. I think Clara or you, Lily, should fill that role."
"While I agree, i will be the only one disguised if we go that way." Lily said.
"You sure, Boss?" Mattias asked. "Unless you can spin it into part of the character you'll be playing, what would you do if there's a malfunction with the chip?"
"Called hair dye and contact lenses." She smiled. "I'll be fine."
Malakai listened as the others spoke of Kara's transformation. He wasn't pleased with the idea of putting her in danger, a subject he would speak to Kara about privately. For now he just stood and listened.
“So?” Kara looked at Lily. “I have to pretend to be some well off woman complete with entourage, who takes a liking to Cragen? What if he expects more than simply friendship? I guess I call on my bodyguards?” She offered a smile to Malakai and Mattias.
Mattias gave her a protective growl, then a brotherly wink.
Kara looked towards Mattias giving him a smile. She wasn't sure whether to be worried about all this or not.
"Actually I think playing it as if he is not worth your time would work better. You will be going in as a buyer/broker sort," Lily replied
“Now that I can do” Kara nodded feeling more relaxed at that idea.
"Amen." Malakai said softly thinking on the times Kara had played hard to get especially when she was angry with him.
"So the Gala is in a couple of days, we need that time to establish Kara's new identity and get our plans set. Sasha?"
"24 hours minimum."
"Then we will use that time. We will also need another ship" Lily said. .
"We get to steal one?" Malakai asked "Or should I say extended borrowing?"
"I think I can get us one without resorting to thievery." Lily smiled.
"Well, where's the fun in that?" Malakai bantered back easily.
Laughing, Lily shrugged. "We shall see what i can work out. Maybe we can make it look good for you and Mattias there to have some fun."
"Wow. Anything is possible." Malakai acknowledged.
Kara stood simply listening to the light hearted banter, trying not to look ‘green around the gills’ as she felt a little nauseous. “Walking over to the replicator she ordered herself a handful of biscuits just to nibble on something, giving Malakai a look that said he might have to suddenly cover for her. She would tell Mattias, she just wasn’t sure when.
Mattias watched everything. While he wasn't entirely sure what was going on, he could see that Kara wasnt feeling well. While he was concerned, he kept telling himself that it was no longer his place to intercede on her behalf. Would he ask her later? Definitely.
"okay so thats the plan. Kara, when you have five, meet me in the Cargo Bay, we need to work on how you walk." Lily said,
Malakai caught Kara's look and gave a subtle nod. "Well if there isn't anything else Captain. Kara and I are going to go back to our quarters."
"Go, see you later" Lily replied with a smile.
Kara nodded and joined Malakai hoping she hadn’t just peaked Mattias’ interest.
As the meeting broke up, Mattias moved over to Phoenix, his eyes still watching Kara and Malakai leave. "Hey," he said softly. "Is something wrong with Kara?"
"'huh?"Lily asked looking up. "I don't know"
Frowning slightly, he said, "I'm gonna go check on her."
"Ah Matt... I need your help down in the cargo bay, " Lily said. Lowering her voice she added "I uh... have some things there that you might like to uh see."
Mattias frowned slightly, hearing the odd uncertainty in Lily's voice. "Okay, Boss," he replied simply, following her down below.
Kara owed her, Lily thought as she led Mattias down to the cargo bay.
Once they were in the half-filled cargo bay, Mattias looked around, trying to figure out what Lily wanted to show him.
Lily kept Mattias distracted from his sister for the rest of the day.
