"Avast you filthy Tellerite swine! Here comes Captain Matty and his faithful first mate, Kara, the two most terrifying space pirates that ever existed!" Mattias and Kara sped through the central dry goods cargo area in their home, the Silver Linings, a Merchantman Class frieghter.

“What now Capt’n?” A young Kara looked at her big brother. “Let’s make ‘em walk the plank!”

"Arh! You've said it true, First Mate! Walk the plank you scurvy space dog!"

"Oh no! Someone help me, please!" Samantha Davis, the Silver Linings chief engineer cried out playfully. She then stepped off the 'plank' and floated off in the, currently empty, zero gee cargo hold.

“Arrr there she goes Cap’n!” Kara giggled as she watched Samantha float away.

"Now! Onto the treasure planet!" Mattias announced authoritatively. "Mister Kara! Lead the way to the helm!"

“Aye, Aye Cap’n!” Kara giggled and headed off along the corridor. They weren’t allowed to play on the actual bridge but the crew had used a small empty room to create a small replica for them.

Once they entered their 'bridge' Mattias moved to sit in his 'captain's chair'. "Mister Kara! Bring us about! Set your course for the Treasure Planet, maximum warp!"

“Setting course Cap’n!” Kara played with her pretend controls and set them on course. “We’re underway Cap’n”

"Very good, very good." Matty jumped up from his chair and began to pace. "So, Mister Kara, what will you do with your portion of the treasure?

Kara looked at her big brother. “I don’t know!” She pulled a funny face. “What are you spending yours on Cap’n?”

His face beamed brightly as he answered. "Oh! I'm gonns use mine to buy a bigger, faster, more awesome ship! You’ll still be my first mate, of course. And together, we'll hire a full crew and sail off, out into the stars, searching for treasure and root beer floats, wherever we go!"

“Don’t forget ice-cream! Lots and lots of ice-cream!” Kara giggled. “And chocolate too!”

"Indeed! Plenty of chocolate! Now, fly!!"

****Flash Forward****

A few years later....

"Now, see that pipe there? That's the pipe that takes all the waste water that we make, down to the extractor and purification pumps. Then, once its all clean and safe again, it comes back up to us." Mattias was starting to teach Kara everything he knew about their home, the Silver Linings. He was always trying to teach her everything he knew. Unfortunately, for a lot of things, there wasn't a whole lot of info that he could give her.

“Right” Kara nodded and smiled. She loved it when Mattias taught her about the ship, one day the Silver Linings would be theirs to inherit and who knew what they’d be doing then. “Do you want to be Captain of this ship one day Matt?”

Shrugging, he replied. "Dunno. Part of me says yes, another part says to join Starfleet, specifically, the Marine Corps."

Kara gave her brother a surprised look. “You want to leave!?” She stood silent not knowing what else to say.

He shrugged. "I dunno, Kay. I haven't made a decision yet. It just...I feel like I'm being pulled in that direction." He pulled her into a warm embrace. "It'll help me protect you better, Little Girl."

“But that means ... you’d have to leave me!” Kara looked at Mattias unhappily. “You’ve always been there for me, what would I do without you?”

Pulling Kara into a warm hug, Mattias gently swayed them back and forth. "It'll be okay, Kara. I haven't even secided anything yet. I'm only fourteen! Its not like I'm leaving tomorrow. If the day comes and I do decide to aoply to the Academy, it wont be till I'm at least eighteen. So you still have a few more years of having me around! Okay?"

Kara nodded. “Okay Matt, i’m sorry I should at least be happy that you’ve got a future in mind for yourself.”

"And you should too," Mattias countered. "I've seen you hanging with Doc, learning about medicine and stuff. That would be an excellent field for you to get into, if it's what you want to do."

Kara nodded. “I think I’d like a career in medical, I just have to decide in what capacity. It’s something for me to give real thought to.”

Nodding, Mattias responded. "It certainly is! Youll have to buckle down on your studies now, Little Girl!" He playfully pulled her in and tickled her.

Kara laughed as David tickled her. “I know!” She squirmed trying to get away from the tickling.

Laughing some more, Mattias finally released his hold on Kara. "Hey, you hungry? I'm hungry."

“Starving!” Kara nodded. “Can we get a chicken bucket pleeease!”

Mattias chuckled. "Depends on how much juice is in the replicator. But, yeah, if we can, we will." The pair then made their way to the tiny galley and set about trying to finesse the old replicator to give them what they wanted. Finally, after a few failed attempts, the desired bucket of extra crispy fried chicken appeared.

“Yay!!” Kara grinned as they sat down to eat. “You’re the best Matt!!”

Mattias grinned. "C'mon," he said with a tilt of his head. "Lets go to to the navigation blister, so we can eat our chicken, while seeing the stars pass by."

Kara nodded and they set off happily together.
