Timeline: MD 4 1600

Vira checked her assignment ten times waiting for it to update. Why would she be assigned to a brig shift? It made no sense, it wasn't even her department! Maybe she did a little too well on her last phaser qualification exam and was now helping out as a security officer? Not likely given her less than stoic attitude.

The Risian could have brought the glitch to Lieutenant Whavi's attention, have her reassigned to a transporter room, but she felt the Elysium's second officer had enough on her plate then to deal with Vira. She'd probably blame her for the issue anyway.

Walking into the Brig Vira approached the front desk, light on her feet, towards the dark-haired male that sat behind it. Donning the most innocent smile she owned she tilted her head and waited to be noticed.

Brig shifts weren't always Damien's favorite assignment. Nine times out of ten, the cells were empty. On the odd occasion that they were filled, it was typically a Crewmember that had gotten a bit too rowdy and had broken some rule or another and was in until they calmed down.

Not only that, he was normally on his own. He enjoyed being by himself sometimes. It allowed him a chance to collect his thoughts. But today, he had no such thoughts, and actually wanted someone to work with.

So when he heard the sound of soft footsteps approaching and saw someone walking towards him out the corner of his eye, he allowed himself a soft smile as he looked up, eager to see who he'd be working with.

But when greeted with an unfamiliar face, he couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed. He knew pretty much all the Security and Tactical personal, although he was aware they had picked up some new crew members, so she could be a new recruit.

His eyes flicked across to her Rank insignia. Ensign. Like himself. He smiled at her again. "Hey. Good afternoon and welcome to the Brig. How can I help you today?"

Vira chuckled and thrust the PaDD containing her assignment for the day. "For reasons unbeknownst to me I have a shift in the brig today." She began looking around at the near desolate brig. "Where is everyone? I really thought I'd hear prisoners screaming or something." She gasps dramatically, "You didn't send them out an airlock did you?" Vira couldn't help but laugh at the joke.

Damien took the PaDD offered to him and quickly scanned the contents. "Ensign Vira Vemre. Transported Specialist." He glanced back up at her, raising an eyebrow slightly. "You've been assigned to the Brig?" He queried, before shrugging. 'Oh well.' He thought to himself.

He couldn't help but chuckle at her joke. "Well, maybe just a couple of them." He said, grinning, winking at her, before shaking his head. "No. In all honesty, we don't actually get a lot of people down here. The odd crew member that doesn't know how to behave. When we get into battle, the odd prisoner, but most of the time, it's as quiet as the grave down here."

"And here I thought this shift was going to be a thrill....not a total drag." She gave Damien a pouty face. "You can call me V by the way. What's back there?" Vira pointed in no general direction, the gesture nothing but a ploy to get the male up and show her around.

He chuckled again, shaking his head. "Well, I hate to disappoint you, but I'm afraid you've arrived at a rather boring shift." He smiled at her. "Nice to meet you V. You can call me Damien." He raised an eyebrow, looking to wherever she was pointing. "That's the holding area." He said, stepping out from behind his console. "Wanna see?"

"I do, as long as you don't try to lock me in there!" Vira started towards the cells, her hazel eyes scanning the area as he followed.

Damien grinned as he followed behind her, running a hand through his hair as he walked. "Well, as long as you behave yourself, I won't have any reason too." He said, letting out a soft chuckle.

Vira scoffed, "Me? Behave?" Turning back she gave Damian a wink. 'Perhaps this won't be such a dreadful shift after all.' Vira thought. Stopping to examine one of the holding cells she noticed how clean and up kept they were, rarely used seemed to be accurate.

"I'm not going to set off any alarms am I?" Before she allowed Damian to answer she raised the force field to the cell by tapping a few buttons.

He chuckled again, shaking his head at the wink. 'I think I've got my hands full here.' He thought to himself, as he followed her to the holding cells. His eyes widened as he watched her activate the forcefield, snapping him out of his relaxed demeanor.

"Vira, what are you doing?!" He said, quickly hurrying over to the cell, pressing a few buttons, quickly deactivating the force field. "Are you crazy?" He asked. "If they find us messing around down here, we could get into trouble."

Vira laughed, a sound close to bells chiming in a warm summer wind. "You look like you've never been in trouble a day in your life." She gave a half shrug, "Besides we can just say I was testing to ensure the forcefields are generating properly." The risian began walking down the long stretch off cells. Her steps soft but still the only sound bouncing off the empty walls.

Damien stared at her, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips, before finally giving in, laughing along with her. God damn that was an infectious laughter. And technically, she wasn’t wrong. Apart from the usual childhood high-jinks, Damien had done his best to keep his nose clean and out of trouble.

“And something tells me that Trouble is your middle name.” He retorted, smirking at her. “That... is an okay excuse.” He said, rolling his eyes at her. “Alright fine. That is a very good answer. And I am perfectly capable of causing trouble if I wanted too.” He said, feeling the need to prove something to the young woman he’d been partnered with.

She knew she won the second Damien starting laughing along with her. Little did he know this would be the most entertaining, if not noteworthy shift of his young life. Vira wore a roguish smile as she peered over her shoulder, "Tell me D, know anything about a game called poker?"
