Mission: Season 5: Episode 2: Operation Save Humanity
Location: CO's Ready Room
Timeline: MD - 6
1107 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

Vanessa stepped off the shuttle and proceeded with Commander Sthilg. She tapped her combadge. "Captain Carrington, Commander Lovejoy. I request an urgent meeting with you. The Situation on the Planet's surface is worse that we could have imagined."

"My ready room" came the reply from the Captain.

It wasn't a long ride in the turbolift until Vanessa and Sthilg was on the bridge. A short jot to the ready room door, and Vanessa had pushed the door chime. Vanessa herself was not going to like this.

Sthilg was right behind Vanessa having to duck to step out of the turbolift door.

Vanessa entered. "Captain Carrington. The Situation has deteriorated on the surface. Almost immediately, we were surrounded by xenophobic mobs with the intent to either take our lives, or take us hostage. In fact, they began forming the moment we landed." Vanessa mentioned. "I'm afraid whatever good will that has been given to you by President Greene is hollow. This society was not remotely ready for first contact... Not even normalized diplomatic relations. We managed to meet a political dissident on the planet that has revealed much Green has not revealed to us. Including the nature of this world."

Yasmine nodded from her seat. "We suspected as much." She replied. "What have you seen?"

Garrett sat to the Captain's right and was his want he listened before giving any comment. Needless to say what he heard was not encouraging in the slightest. When Vanessa had finished, he spoke. "What do you suggest Consul? That we quarantine the planet?"

"I'm afraid it's far too late for that now." Vanessa mentioned. "We left our shuttle unattended for quite some time while we looked around, and tried not to have any confrontations. They made it very difficult to get back to our shuttle."

"Then my question remains Consul, what is your recommendation?" Garrett asked again.

"For now... We have to quarantine the system." Vanessa mentioned. "But as I mentioned before. That may not last. They may already know enough about our shuttles and our ship to build warp drives of their own in little more than a decade." Vanessa mentioned. "Then, when they find the warning beacons or patrols. They'll tell their own people the 'Aliens were imprisoning us in our own system because of envy.' What we need to do is show these people another way other than Green's rhetoric, and I imagine there's a great number of problems with this society President Green is not solving. Hense the Dissident we found. This is a disaster because the game was rigged to begin with." Vanessa pointed out. "We can quarrantine them, but we're still going to have to deal with them. Pandora's box is not closing again."

" We may not have a decade." The gorn said calmly from Vanessa's side. Bringing his artificial arms holo projector up he projected a DNA molecule. You didn't need to know much about medicine to know something was wrong with it as it appeared to be falling apart. " The whole planet isss sssick judging by my ssscan'sss. Sssomething on the planet has been causing minor developmental disorders for quite a few generationsss. If thisss build up contuiesss it may prove fatal for them. "

"They're dying, Captain. They don't know it, they won't admit it. They have a very small gene pool, that unfortunatly has been reduced further by analog Eugenics. Very similar to Nazi Germany's eugenics program." Vanessa noted. "We simply cannot leave them like this. It would confirm every ounce of rhetoric Green has told them just to turn our backs on them and leave."

"I think a quarantine of the planet for now would be the best option until a more permanent solution can be found especially in light of the news that they are dying. This is a matter for the Federation Council to take up and deal with." Garrett replied carefully.

"I'm hoping they decide to help these people." Vanessa noted. "But I fear the response that the words 'Eugenics' would have in the council. My people have had to deal with a reduced gene pool before. We fixed that problem by using the old Imperium's genetic database to stabilize our gene pool after we escaped the borg. Some call this genetic engineering. But I assure you. We did nor change one strand of DNA. We simply implemented it from imperial citizen recotds. If we didn't do that, I wouldn't be here talking to you." Vanessa mentioned. "I'll try to push for a mercy mission. But Green's people must want to be helped."

" We already have two who want asylum. I'm sssure ssscience and medical can work out what'sss causssing this to happen and how to ssstop it. It may be the bargaining chip we need to bring reform'sss to the planet. " The gorn added.

"We will abide by their decision." Garrett replied to Vanessa before looking at the CMO. "I'm sure medical and science can indeed find what is causing the birth defects. Though I'm not sure it will be received with open arms." Garrett replied.

" But sssome of thessse people need are help now sssir. If there was one defector they'll be othersss and i'm sssure green will be clamping down on them right now." Sthilg added.

"I understand that Doctor and we are not insensitive to those needs for aid. However are you sure they would be well received or viewed with skepticism or even hostility." Garrett answered calmly.

" No not among the general population." The gorn replied honestly.

"But you believe that there are others within the general population who may want to leave?" Carrington asked curiously

" I do." the gorn replied calmly.

"Consul? do you agree?" Carrington asked

Vanessa nodded. "If nothing else. These groups would view their leaders as apathetic, I'm certain even President Green privately refers to his own people as 'votes' rather than 'citizens.' Beware Captain. Green may already be using our arrival to manipulate public opinions. If we're going to save these groups. I'd do so now before Green realizes our intentions.

Carrington nodded. "Yes he seems like a politician." She replied dryly. "Or an old earth used car salesman. Doctor, your team needs to be prepared that anyone who we take on as refugee will have medical conditions and the like. Consul, talk to Lieutenant Whavi's team, we may need to convert areas into sleeping quarters and such. Commander Lovejoy, I want increased security around the ship once we start bringing in refugees. That said, I am not going to do that until tomorrow. I want the rest of the away teams returning and their thoughts."
