Ed pulled up the command Log and searched the chronological list of things that had been altered in the computer's memory, looking for data that was corrupted... He said, "I keep finding little things, but nothing that is even close to the items on the list." Looking over at LTjg Redal, he said, "It's like that address was randomly changed, and it only did one partition. we will Have to compare each Mirror to the data, and look for anomalies."
Myne leaned back in her chair, still feeling guilty, and sighed. "Yeah, I don't think all of this was caused by my little program. But you are right, the best way to go about it is by comparison. Hmm." Picking up her PaDD she started to quickly type. "I'll just write a tiny little subroutine for myself to do the comparisons I guess. Aaaaand, done! Yay!" Setting the PaDD on the console she started working on it before declaring she had finished. "Alright, this might take a while as the subroutines run through it and see what it finds. Having fun on your first day?" She asked turning to look at Ed smiling.
"First Day, It's still the first DAY!" Ed exclaimed. "This had been one long day!"
"Well, at least it is not a boring day, right? Look at the bright side of things, you get to spend time with me!" Myne chuckled and kept an eye on her PaDD to see the progress of the subroutines.
Ed looked over at the science officer, smiles, then said,"Ok, so we order pizza and programmer's fuel!"
"Pizza? What is that? And erm, never heard of programer's fuel either, but I don't think we should tamper or play with anything volatile. Depending on the fuel you are thinking off. That's like, Engineering's problem, not ours." She explained looking at Ed a bit worried.
Ed pulled out his oversized Engineering PaDD and pulled up a picture of Pizza out of his history, "This is Pizza, my favorite toppings are pineapple, for sweetness, black olives, mushrooms, and lots of cheese. This is baked in an oven and it has lots of cheese melted over the flat circle of thin crust bread. It is that Cat's meow! I can order some, have it delivered, and you can try it, or are you allergic to earth dairy products? or earth bread? Or any of those vegetables? or tomato sauce?" Ed started to worry that the Science officer might think he was trying to poison her.
Myne stared at the screen as Ed started to enumerate ingredients whose names sounded like gibberish to her. "Crust bread and cat's meow taste that good?" She asked just as clueless as before, even not even more so."Ah, Earth things. Why is everyone so fascinated with that planet? Yeah, I tried like coffee, burgers and other stuff. It tastes horrible really. I do not understand how you can stomach their food."
Ed smiled, raised his hands in the universal clueless gesture, then said, " I love anything Italian, except sea creatures. My academy roommate took me to a place 16 kilometers north of Naples, Italy. It was a mom and pop family restaurant. I have never tasted anything so good."
"Well, I am glad you like it then. Must be an acquired taste thing. Personally, I like Ferengi dishes, cannot get enough of it really. Highly nutritional and most importantly, they don't get me fat!" She chuckled.
Ed thought for a moment, then asked," So your a trill, long life and such, does your host have different tastes in food than you do? Do you ever get a craving for something weird?"
Shrugging, Myne scratches the side of her head thoughtfully. "I think so. I spent a loooot of time among Ferengi, so yeah, I do have weird cravings most of the time. But I don't mind."
Ed shook his head,"What were we working on? Oh yeah the computer." He pulled up his system stats on his Engineering PaDD . The overview was showing overall performance and system health. It did not quite look right so he started digging and started pulling system overviews, comparing the specs to the actual performance. "I am seeing a dip in performance. Half of which might be our maintenance, but we should not be tying up the system's resources like this. You might want to take a look!"
"You almost forgot what we were working on?!" Myne asked laughing slightly, joyfully before picking her own custom PaDD and looking over the result of her subroutines. "Yeah, that's true, seems the system must have sprung a leak somewhere maybe?"
"Leak?", he said, "This is more of a hemorrhage!" Ed started pulling subsystems looking for what was causing the massive drain on the system resources. He said, "Everything looks normal, but it just does not add up!"
"Well, I am lost on this. maybe the system is simply feeding too much power is some parts? And it's not properly recording the leaks?" Myne proposed, leaning back resting her chin in her fingers.
Ed shook his head, musing to himself, "It's almost like it is hiding something, like it has a secret project that it is nurturing, slowly feeding resources to, but that amount is slowly getting bigger and bigger!"
"Oh? Really? I did not think of it that way. I wonder what kind of project might it be working on? Oh this is good news, this has nothing to do with my program. It is so far beyond its capabilities and parameters. Yay!!" She threw up a victorious hand up in the air.
"Yay for you!" Ed said, "Now I have to figure out who is doing what, is it legit, or is some one have a new invention, that is running amuck!" Ed started typing furiously and poking at his PaDD for a few minutes then said, "I have no clue who is doing this, there is no command pathway leading to this, everything is hidden. You are going to have to inform your boss, and I will tell my boss the bad news...Unless you can figure out who is doing what to whom!"
Shaking her head Myne sighed. "Yeah, this is beyond me. I am relieved I did not cause this, but you have a point. We should push this up the chain. I will let my Chief know as quickly as possible." She said and took her PaDD again, making sure to prepare the data to show to Baeryn.
