CMO and Sullivan Chat

Posted on Wed May 1st, 2019 @ 8:01am by Avalon [ADMIN NPC] & Commander Sthilg & Lieutenant Tate Sullivan Ph.D.

Mission: MISSION 0 - History Speaks
Location: Messhall.
669 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure

Sthilg has heard his stomach rumble a few hours before and now that his shift had ended the elderly gorn had decided to get something to eat. Stepping into the rather quite mess hall the gorn chose two large bowls of an andorian fish stew, a plate with three well-done steaks as well as large plate of vegetables as well as a large chocolate pudding.

Being a large reptile did have it's advantages and being able to enjoy a large meal was always something he enjoyed. Talking a window seat the lizard smiled to himself as he looked out the window before dipping some of his bread into the soup. This was the life.

Tate was looking forward to a meal outside the office, and although she was tired of paperwork, she was hoping she wouldn't have to eat alone as she would enjoy a bit of company. Still, she wasn't the sort to simply barge in on a random person. She was mindful that's such behavior might make someone an easy as a counselor. Spotting a familiar face, however, she smiled and approached his table. "Mind if I join you?"

" Off courssse commander. " the gorn said as the woman sat down. " I haven't had much chance to talk to you. How have you been?"

"I've been good," Tate answered politely. That was mostly true, despite her emotional ups and downs surrounding being a godmother. "I'm a godmother now to Feyth's daughter." She wasn't sure if the doctor knew that, but the three of them had been present when Feyth had given birth.

" I heard. I'm glad the little one and her mother are doing all right. " Replied the lizard.

"Me too," the counselor answered in clear relief. "I knew she was healthy but I wasn't sure how the stress of the sudden evacuation would impact the delivery. I'm glad everything worked out for the best."

The gorn tried smiling, but halfway through it turned into a sad frown. " After i lossst my own child i ssswore that I would never let another one die. I hope my love isss happy that i've never faild in that goal."

"That's remarkable, Doctor. I can see where that desire comes from and imagine how strong it must be, but still, it seems like an impossible standard."

"It was easssier than you can imagine. Most of the time I was on KDF warbirdsss and female crew have to use mandatory birth control. Not many birthsss on them. Luckily sssince i joined ssstarfleet I've had no infant fatalitiesss." the old gorn responded.

It was sometimes difficult for Sullivan to put her counseling impulses aside, and in this case, it was no different. She couldn't help but worry for the doctor as he spoke of his determination not to lose a child. No matter how advanced medical technology was, loss was inevitable. Still, she didn't want to turn a casual meal into a counseling session, so she offered, "Let's hope it stays that way."

" Indeed. I apologize for rambling. New life always makesss me think of my family." The gorn said politely.

"No need to apologize for your thoughts," Tate reassured. "Actually, the arrival of this particular new life has made me consider my future as well. It seems I've been so focused on my career that I never stop to think about what else I'm really missing. Taking a step back from administrative duties has really given me time to think about what I want from life besides titles."

" There alwaysss time to think about the future. I pity many of the ssspecies in the federation not to be blessssed with my own people lifessspan. Ssso little time to work out where you want to go. " the MD replied

Sullivan smiled. "A shorter lifespan just forces us not to take life for granted, in my opinion."

" Indeed." The gorn said as he got a page on his combadge. " Well, Sssullivan if you excuse me my worksss calling. I'll talk to you later. "
