~ Several weeks later ~
The doors of the private room where Alicia was being treated swished open to reveal the now tall and handsome figure of Connor, he’d been spending as much time with his mother as he could since his return to Earth. Taking available leave he’d barely left her side.
“Ready to go Mum?” Connor offered Alicia a smile. “Dad and N’Vea are here too.”
Alicia was sitting up on her bed, she still had a long way to go in her recovery and even though she was having physio she was struggling to walk. She nodded as she looked towards Connor. “Sounds like they’ve arrived just in time to see me making a fool of myself.”
Savar waited with N'Vea for Connor and Alicia to appear. He was glad Connor had arrived to be here. His appearance along with N'Vea's had done wonders for Alicia and her recovery. "Your mother and brother should be here shortly. Your mother is making excellent progress though walking still is difficult."
N’Vea nodded. “I know, but she’s taking it pretty hard that she can’t walk. I just wish mum wouldn’t see it as a failure when she struggles with her exercises.
Sthilg and Acuzin steped through the doors and headed towards Savar. Sthilg looked like a man who hadn't slept in weeks. " Savar can you please tell him it's not his fault?" The hybrid cadet said obviously having been trying to tell her father that for a very long time.
Savar turned to the elderly gorn. "Doctor." He began and then stopped and corrected himself. "Father, why do you punish yourself? Acuzin is right. None of this is your fault. You saved Alicia's life. Your skill has allowed my wife and your daughter to continue to be with us. You should rejoice in that fact in that we can still spend time with her and enjoy her company."
The gorn began to open his mouth to say something before closing it as he shook his head. What was he going to say that he knew this was going to happen?
The doors opened to reveal Alicia and Connor, not having seen much of her father lately she was surprised how worn out he looked. “You’ve been avoiding me?” She tried not to show how much that hurt. “You saved my life father, you have nothing to feel guilty for!”
" Forgive me my dear." The gorn said as he walked over and offred her a hug. " Can you forgive an old fool who always belives he can do more?"
Alicia smiled as she hugged Sthilg back as best as she could. “You already worked a miracle saving me. Would you help me with my walking exercises today? and you too Imzadi.” She offered Savar a nervous smile.
"It would be my distinct pleasure Alicia, my love." Savar replied as he extended a hand for Alicia to take even as he bent forward and used his other hand to help steady her as she stood.
Sthilg was at his daughter's side ready to catch her if needed. " I'll alwaysss be there to help my dear."
" As will i sis." the hybrid cadet said as she helped Savar.
“I know you all will” Alicia rose gently to her feet with the help, the hard part was yet to come as she approached the walking frame where she had to go it alone. This was the part she dreaded especially the thought of embarrassing herself in-front of her family.
Savar held his love's hand. As he helped her walk to the walking frame. His eyes so full of love for and on Alicia as they reached the frame. he kissed her cheek and whispered. "You are not alone Alicia, not ever, we are all here for you , ready to assist you in whatever you need."
Alicia offered a smile and nodded. She took her strength from Savar’s love and that of her family. She took hold of the frame and started her walking exercise. “I will... do... this!” She smiled as she made it half way before having to pause to rest. “I’m doing it!”
Savar smiled as Alicia walked, holding the frame. "Most impressive Alicia. I never had any doubt you could do this."
The exertion was plain to see from the perspiration on her forehead as she stepped onward and promptly lost strength crumpling to the floor.
Savar was beside Alicia in a flash, he knelt beside her and helped her to a sitting position. he took her head in his hands and kissed her gently. " My love, are you alright?" He asked as he cradled her in his arms.
A few minutes of tear shedding later, Alicia took a deep breath and wiped her eyes. Looking up at Savar she nodded. “I’m okay, at least I got that far.” She rubbed her knees which were aching. “I just... have to go slow.”
"My Alicia, my love, my better half. You did magnificently. Do not be disappointed. I am not. Next time you will go one step further and do that every time and you will soon be walking the entire distance." Savar said with dogged confidence in Alicia and her ability.
Sthilg and his daughter were at Alicia side in seconds. " We'll get through thisss. Thisss family alwaysss does." Sthilg said as he wrapped his supportive arms around his daughter.
Alicia nodded as she looked towards Sthilg. “I want to go home! I’ve been here ever since... this, happened to me. I don’t want to be here anymore, I want to be at home.”
" I've arranged for a ssshuttle to take usss home. It can be here by the end of the day when I've had the necessary gear moved in." Sthilg said reassuringly as he gently gripped her.
Alicia smiled the biggest smile yet at the thought of finally going home. “You already had it planned?” She kissed Sthilg on the cheek as she slowly moved back into her wheelchair. “Thank you father.”
" What father would i be if i didn't thiunk of my daughter." Sthilg replied as he helped her into the chair.
Savar stood silently as Alicia and Sthilg spoke and complimented each other. He suddenly felt unneeded.
Over the years Alicia had become a lot more attuned to her husband, she looked his way. “Oh Savar... no!” She held out her hand. “I need you, don’t ever think that you aren’t needed.”
Savar turned and took her hand in his. Whatever life threw at them, no matter what the hardship or the difficulty they faced it together, this was no different. They would face this together.
Alicia smiled as she held onto Savar’s hand, she needed his love and support like never before.
Acuzin pulled out her holo imagier. " Everyone get together i'll get an image. One day we can look back and remember how lucky we are to have each other."
“That’s a good idea” Alicia nodded as she motioned to everyone to gather around her.
Sthilg moved behind his daughter though he paused as he looked at the wall. Just like in the last one.
Savar came to stand beside Alicia. his hand holding hers in a gentle embrace.
With the simulated flash, the holoimage was taken catching the moment in history ready to begin it's long journey back to this moment.
