On:

Orin had just come down to Sickbay from the Shuttlebay, since he heard that he had to get his medical exam in before coming onto duty. However, as soon as he entered the door to the Main Sickbay Complex, Orin was overwhelmed by all the commotion that was happening all around him.

As soon as he walked into Sickbay, Orin realized that there must've been something major that was happening, as all of the nurses and doctors were preparing all of the biobeds and medical equipment to be used for various procedures. Looking around at all of the people zooming around, Orin looked to see which crew member had the highest rank and walked over to them.

Seeing someone with the rank of Commander, Orin walked over to them and said, "Excuse me, but I was told to report down here to get my medical exam. But, if I need to come back at a later time, I totally can. Just let me know."

Sthilg heard the new arrival as he placed down one of the crates of synthetic blood. Straightening his uniform he walked over and offered his hand. " Hello there i don't think we've met i'm doctor Sssthilg head of the ssships medical persssonnel."

Seeing the hand in front of him and quickly realizing that the medical officer in front of him wasn't of a stereotypical humanoid species, Orin extended his hand out in front of himself and took the doctor's hand, shaking it.

"I'm Andrinn Orin, the new Chief Diplomatic Officer for the Elysium. I take it that you're the Chief Medical Officer?" Orin asked, not wanting to be rude, but realizing that he was looking this man over.

" Indeed." Sthilg replied with a smile. " Firssst time working with a gorn? " He inquired notching the mans looks.

"Yes, sir. I've never really met many of them before in my life. But, it's good to finally meet one in person. I just hope that I'm not staring too much cause this is one of the first times that I've been away from Starfleet and Earth for a while. Like I said, I've worked in diplomatics, but.....oh, I'm sorry. I'm rambling. I do that when I get a bit nervous and I'm trying to fill the empty void with something to say. How long have you been onboard the Elysium?" Orin asked as he hoped onto the first biobed that he saw was free, so the doctor could start his medical exam.

" Oh more than enough time for part of my sssoul to merge with thisss girl.I'll be haunting her hallsss long after i've joined the all mother." Sthilg said as he headed to the biobeds computer, but not before patting the walls of his sickbay. " Any incidentsss not on file sssince your lassst ssscan." He inquired.

Looking around as he patted the walls of sickbay, Orin couldn't help but laugh as he watched the interaction. He shook his head and said, "No, I was scanned back at Starfleet Medical before I was sent off to join the crew. The only thing that they said was to remind the Chief Medical Officer to make sure that they knew to scan the Orin symbiant every six months, and to do a full medical workup for him once a year. Think that would be something that could be done, doctor?"

Orin had walked in with the bag around his shoulders and said, "Oh, almost forgot this!" He pulled a PADD out of his bag and handed it to the doctor. It was something from the doctors at Starfleet Medical that was listed for the CMO's eyes only.

The gorn took the padd and gave it a look over. His white eyes looked at the notes of trauma and that he was to be monitored as much as possible. Noded he pocketed it before giving him a reassuring smile. " Don't worry about Orin. The ssshipsss cyberneticist is a joined trill herself." Sthilg said gesturing over to the white-spotted trill who was hard at work.

"I heard that the medical and counseling staff onboard is top notch! I heard that you guys know what you guys are doing," Orin said with a smile as he sat back on the biobed.

" Oh we are. I have over two hundred yearsss of experience in the field and my daughter is one of the best counsssellorsss ssstarfleet has ever trained and i'm not only sssaying that becoussse ssshe'sss my daughter." The gorn replied with a warm smile.

Watching the Gorn walk over to Orin and begin working with the instruments within Sickbay, Orin just remained silent and wanted to get this done and over with. While he was warm on the outside, he was scared to death of counselors and therapists.

The white eyes of the gorn looked over the incoming data as he looked at the man on the biobed. " Your bonding with the sssymbiote didn't go sssmoothly." The lizard inquired. It wasn't his area of expertise, but even he knew this wasn't the best results the trill wanted.

"The host before me was my trainer during the whole process and he was....lets be real. He was a Great-A jerk. But, then, he died in some freak accident and the symbiant had to be transferred to a new host and it made sense that it was me. Didn't realize that I would have such strong feelings for myself afterwards," Andrinn said as he tried to relax and let the Gorn physician do his job. But, Andrinn never quite liked doctors and he didn't like explaining his past even more.

" How isss it my race the one that holotrasssh hasss being a bunch of ssslaving, piratesss who do sssuch acts assss ssskinning people to ussse as egg sssacksss ssseemsss to be the only race that accepted hybridisssation without the usual actsss of terror or bigitory. " Sthilg said out loud accidentally having guessed the source of the man's mentor's bigotry. " Sssorry didn't mean to sssay that outloud."

Cracking a wry smile, Andrinn looked at the doctor and said, "I don't know Doc, but it could be due to the fact that you look like a giant dinosaur from Earth's ancient History and the past that the Federation and your species has shared has made some people more uncomfortable than others. Doesn't make it right, but it takes time for people to get over preducies. Take it from someone who has lived through it."

Andrinn tilted his head to the side and thought back to all of the stuff from his childhood and all of the issues that he had to go through to be able to just make it like every other kid. It wasn't fair and it wasn't right, so he had made it a mission to help people that might have gone through the same or similar stuff.

Andrinn looked at the Doctor and said, "Has anyone onboard given you a hard time?"

" Oh no a few primaeval terror moments from their mammalian brainsss and....." Sthilg began before memories of that animal crept into his mind. " Never mind Besidesss that i've had to correct a few people on trasssh a few genrationssss of ferngi holo programsss have put into peoplesss headsss."

Leaning up and looking over at the doctor, Andrinn saw something that he saw in himself and others over the years. He sat up on the bed and pointed over at the doctor to say, "Yes....yes, you have, haven't you? There was a look I've seen a thousand times because I've seen it in myself and people that I've worked with in the Diplomatic world. What is it doctor?"

" No nothing like that. Sssomething far worssse than any bigotry."the old doctor replied trying to put his mirror self out of his mind.

"Doc, it's not fair that they treated you anything less than stellar. I've seen bigotry firsthand and it's not quite right!" Orin said as he watched the doctor work his magic.

" It'sss okay my freind. I'm an old man and i've ssseen far worssse in my two hundred yearsss in thisss universsse." the gorn replied calmly.

Just shaking his head, Orin leaned back down and said, "Well, if they truly do anything to you again, please let me know so that I can help out. I don't want to live in a universe that isn't kind to everyone...present company included."

" I will, but I'll manage." the gorn said as a bleep dragged him back to the computer. His wjite eyes looked over the computer to which he nodded. " Well nothing that meansss i can't clear you medically fit for duty." he said with his best warm smile.

Sitting back up on the medical exam bed, Orin smiled and said, "So, you're telling me that I'm all good doc? Would you like to go ahead and set up a six month appointment to come and see you again?"

The gorn nodded. " Already set up." He said handing over a data crystal with a copy of the scan.

Taking the scans from the doctor, Orin looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you very much doc. Again, if you ever need anything, just let me know and we will figure out something. Anything else that you need from me doc?" Andrinn asked, hopping off the biobed.

" Jussst make sssure you book an appointment with the counssselling department." The doctor replied.

"Why would I need to talk to counseling? They're just overrated shrinks that love to talk about all those mushy feelings," Orin said with a chuckle.

" The mind is jussst asss vital as the body." The gorn replied calmly.

"Wha...what if I don't go. Will this make me not fit for duty?" Orin asked, clearly wanting to be able able to start working, but not wanting to go to counseling.

The gorn nooded. " We need you at your bessst Orin. Isss there a reason you don't want to talk to a councillor?" he inquired.

Looking down at his feet as they hung over the side of the biobed, Orin just had this gut feeling deep within him that made it where he didn't want to go to counseling. He always related it back to possibly a previous host and a bad experience that he had with counseling. But, Orin thought it could have been more.

Orin shrugged his shoulders and said, "Probably just from a bad experience with one of my first hosts. Bad counseling experience back in the day."

" Well I can asssssure you none of that will happen here." the gorn said reassuringly.

"I'll consider it, sir. But, no promises. I can't guarantee that I won't punch the therapist in the noses," Orin said with a small smirk on his face, trying to make himself feel a bit better about the thought of going to counseling.

Sthilg said nothing but turned a photo around of Alicia. " You'd better not ssshe'sss my daughter." The lizard replied calmly.

Orin chuckled and replied, "I promise I don't punch ladies. It's ungentleman like. But, no promises that there won't be tough stuff to talk about. My life has spanned over three centuries with a lot of trauma. Think your daughter and the rest of the counselors are ready for my baggage?"

" They can deal with my two hundred yearsss ssson. They'll manage." he responded honestly.

"I....just hate being a bother...especially when I already know what's going on in my own head," Orin said as he looked over at the doctor.

Putting his hand on the diplomat's shoulder the gorn gave a reassuring squeeze. " You won't be a bother my friend."

"If I say that I'll go to therapy, will you promise to not talk about it again in my next exam?" Orin said with a small, nervous chuckle.

" Deal." Sthilg replied reassuringly.

Orin just simply nodded his head and hopped off the exam table as he gave a sideways look towards the Gorn doctor. "Th....thank you. I owe you one doc," Orin finally spoke. He wasn't sure what to say or think now that he was going to therapy. "Anything else before I head out?" he asked.

The gorn shook his head. "You're free to go."

Orin simply shook his head and looked back at the doctor with a sympathic smile. "Thank you, doctor," Orin said, making sure that the doctor knew he was truly grateful for all he had done.

The gorn gave him a wave before heading back to his office. He needed some work but he'd make it.

Walking out of Sickbay, Orin wasn't sure how he should be feeling at this moment. While he knew deep down that counseling was needed, he didn't want it because of the paint he had been hiding deep within himself for quite some time. However, maybe this time would be different. Maybe, he could get better. Only time would tell...

Thanks for the nice read guys!

Both of your characters have a lot going on here. And both characters have long histories with lots of details. I do appreciate it when you do go into the details like you two shred in this post. These dialogues give us readers a clue as to what your characters think are important in their own histories. And you are the best guides to your characters. I liked the added touch of Sthilg going and touching the walls of the Medical bay. Nice touch. And I liked the banter back and forth about the symbiont.

Thanks!
