Inside Myne's quarters a package awaited her return a very special package that was especially for her, one that would hopefully pull her out of her doldrums and restore her to the Myne the crew all knew and cared about.
The package itself was nothing special. It was a normal Starfleet mail package with her name on the outside but no sender information. On the inside was a message that read, "Myne, never forget. Keep your imagination alive."
It took Myne quite some time to notice the package. The quarters were littered with as usual half baked ideas, components, boxes of things to be atomized and so on. So among the mess, Myne was used to ignoring most of everything that wasn't immediately on her mind until she needed it.
Finally noticing the package, she stared curiously at it. "Erm, I don't remember that being one of my things." She muttered to herself and approached to open it. Finding the label made her only all the more confused until realization dawned on her.
"Oh, he is so not going to like what I copied over in their system." Myne chuckled and sighed, thinking of her small virus, that should have made its way into the station servers. Its purpose rather simple, find its way into the bridge speakers and into Captain Lovejoy's new office and do one thing and one thing only. Play Super Garrett theme songs whenever Captain Lovejoy opened his computer or entered the bridge. The virus was harmless otherwise, just annoying to root out, at least at first.
She had not wanted to be mean, so the virus would make itself known after a week, making itself easy to remove. With that thought in mind, Myne smiled for the first time what felt like too long and checked the content of the package rather excitedly.
There was a PaDD and some computer parts Myne could use for any project she had. When Myne activated the PaDD she would see Garrett dressed in a Super Garrett costume, hand on hips looking quite impressive. But best was to come when Myne went and delved into the contents of the PaDD.
It took her a few long seconds to register what she was seeing on the PaDD. And then a full minute of laughter, intense laughter, at the end of which she had to wipe a few tears. Her smile was then broad and genuine. "Thank you Super Garrett sir." She said to no one in particular in the empty cabin as she traced her fingers along the lines of the Super Garrett costume.
As she did so, the smile slowly dwindled down into a more subdued one, and the quiet tears that followed were still happy ones. "Thank you so much Super Garrett... I will miss you, the best Captain I could have hoped for."
Whipping away the fresh batch of tears, she looked at the computer parts inside of the box, chuckling softly at the rare components. Items she would have had to struggle to obtain otherwise that she could use in her various personal projects.
Still, looking at the PaDD again, she delved deeper, curious if the good captain left her a message or not. A part of her started to regret her own gift to him, well more aptly said mean prank. She had not taken his departure well, so the week long annoyance reflected that in some sense.
As Myne held the PaDD, Garrett began to speak, "Hello Myne, and congratulations on your promotion to full Lieutenant. Don't second guess yourself. You deserve this. Let everyone see the officer I see, Caring and knowledgeable as well as compassionate." A pause and Garrett continues, 'However I didn't come to speak to you as an officer but rather as Super Garrett's sidekick Gadget Girl. The computer expert extraordinaire. I place the Elysium in your capable hands. You can do this and remember if you need Super Garrett, I'm just a subspace message away" Garrett smiles and leans toward the PaDD. "Oh, one other thing, thanks for your 'gift' of the computer playing the Super Garrett theme song. It was nice the first twenty or thirty times or so, now not so much. Please tell me it will end soon." A smile on his face. He then holds a hand up to the PaDD, "I miss you Myne but I will see you again soon. I promise."
After she listened to the message, Myne took the PaDD and took a seat on her cot. Playing it over and over a few times. She laughed, she cried, but in the end this was what she needed, as she listened to this wonderful message while she worked out through the bottled up emotions that boiled inside of her.
Finally calm, she went to her computer and began to record a message of her own. After of course she took out her Gadget Girl costume, to be in line with the theme as it was appropriate. "Sir, and I mean Captain Lovejoy." She began, her voice still filled with emotion and some wavering, timid, courage. "I will always be grateful for the way you have welcomed me aboard the ship and treated me. You will always be my idol and I will strive to make you proud of me, one way or another, as best as I can. I am sorry for my mean 'gift', but apparently you leaving was a bigger shock than I thought. I hope your new command welcomes you with open arms, and see in your the leader I saw. The man who puts his crew first, even when said crew does not like him. If I grow up into half of the exemplary officer you are, then I will be happy. Until then though..."
Trailing off Myne smiled as widely and as earnestly as she could, showing off her Gadget Girl costume and chuckling. "My gift is on a timer Super Garrett! Should expire within a week after it started and leave behind nice puzzles for your Operations team in order to shore up the loopholes I used to send it through!! Stay amazing sir, and keep saving the galaxy, one theme song at a time!" With that she sent the message and returned to her cot, picking up the PaDD and place it on the shelf next to it. Giving the PaDD the center place in her small collection of valuables as her most treasured possession. "I will really miss you, Super Garrett sir. Thank you for everything." She whispered, touching the PaDD one last time before going to change back into her uniform.
As Myne changed back into her uniform. The PaDD beeped and the Super Garrett Theme song began to play with Garrett singing it,
Daring man of mystery, Champion of right, Swoops out of the shadows, Super Garrett owns the night. Somewhere some villain schemes, But his number's up. (3-2-1) Super Garrett (When there's trouble you call SG) Cloud of smoke and he appears, Master of surprise. Who's that cunning mind behind That shadowy disguise? Nobody knows for sure, But bad guys are out of luck. 'Cause here comes (Super Garrett) Look out! (When there's trouble you call SG) Super Garrett (Let's get dangerous) Super Garrett (Better watch out, you bad boys) Super Garrett! But instead of ending there was another line. " Super Garrett has a help in his never ending battle against evil that help is Gadget Girl and this is her story."
A pause and then a serious sounding voice began talking. "It's Gadget Girl! Yes, it's Gadget Girl - wonderous visitor from another planet who came to the Federation with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men. Gadget Girl - who can change the course of programs, bend computers to her will, all with a mere flick of her fingers and who disguised as Myne Redal, mild-mannered operations officer for the starship Elysium, fights a never ending battle for Truth, Justice, and the Federation way!"
Then Garrett's voice came back. "Hope you like your story Myne. Remember, you can do this, you are a fantastically talented officer, show the crew just how talented you are. Confidence Myne and thank you for being a wonderful friend. I believe in you." The message ended and the PaDD beeped again. Then Super Garrett's image appeared along with the following heading. "The further adventures of Super Garrett and Gadget Girl." Showing an interactive program Myne could participate in as of course Gadget Girl.
Myne was laughing with her whole body, having to hold her waist for stability at the wonderful song that just started blurting from the PaDD. She no longer regreted the gift she sent to tease poor Captain Lovejoy. Wiping tears of laughter she took a few deep breaths before going back to the shelf and accessing the program with a wide smile. "The best captain ever, and the best friend I could have asked for." She muttered to herself and began to play with the program to see what mischief she could cause.
*Back on Galaxy Station*
In his office, Garrett's computer beeped signaling an incoming message. He looked and saw it was from Myne, stating that her 'gift' was on a timer and the virus should reveal itself within a weeks' time. Once it did, he get his operations team to shore up the weak spots in the system. So, someone has talented as Myne couldn't pull the same stunt again. He leaned back in his chair, he really had tried to wrangle Myne from Phoenix, but the Elysium captain wouldn't hear of it. He missed Myne and her quirkiness. She was a much-needed breath of fresh air. They could still 'talk' but it wasn't the same. However, he breathed a sigh of relief, knowing the virus would soon reveal itself and be removed.
He sent a return message to Myne. "Thank goodness Myne! That was a good one. I owe you one," He couldn't be mad at Myne, because he knew she wasn't mean spirited or vengeful. Now he needed a good prank to play on her. One worthy of the name Super Garrett.

A beautiful story, made so by the wonderfully talented and creative Myne Redal. Her writing pushes the story along with a nice emotional tint to it and gives it the feel good ending we were all hoping for.

What a wee charming story here! A gem of a tale just sitting out here to be read. I didn't know that Captain Lovejoy wasn't the "real" Captain of the Elysium until I saw OPS changing the name plates back, OOppss!
It's a charming story here. One of a personal nature that shows us the depth of character that this player has. I've heard so much about this character; I hope we will see some more of her. After she has had time to grieve the loss of her friend. One does get a sense that the dear Captain Lovejoy had an impact on many characters. And took the Elysium through and bore with the crew the troubled times ending in Highlaw's capture. And that's the way it ought to be yes? People come in and out of our lives. Our thread of life is woven with theirs. It is only natural that in the unweaving it should hurt. Thank the stars that it hurts. You still have feelings unpleasant though they be.
We look forward to future postage from this acclaimed author with great interest.

Oh drat! Curses!
It would be amiss of me not to also acknowledge Captain Lovejoy's contributions here in this post as well. I shouldn't really write these after 8PM. I turn into a pumpkin at 8 anyway. As I was finishing this commentary up I was reminded that I had neglected to acknowledge both writers. And for that one is truly sorry. It takes two to tango doesn't it? Two to make a joint post. My oversight; my apologies. Please keep up the good work and we hope to see future posts from both Lieutenant Myne Redal and Captain Garrett Lovejoy. Two talented and worthy authors. See you in the game! :)
