Lia had made it back with little Lia and the pair now rested on the futons arranged on the floor, it was now that Lia noticed that Gary hadn't come back with them.
Some what concerned, she called for Avalon. If anything had happened to Gary, then Avalon would tell her. "Avalon report whereabouts of Captain Taylor."
["Captain Taylor is in medical."] came the reply from the AI.
This response caught her unawares, "Is there a reason Captain Taylor is in medical? I thought we had finished our business?"
["Records show that he was showing signs of a contagious illness. He has been placed into quarantine."] Avalon replied.
*Illness?* The thought ran through Lia's mind, did little Lia's collapse have something to do with it? "Avalon, expand on Captain Taylors illness. Was it caused by interaction with the child we presently foster?"
["No Commander, it does not. The doctors believe that because of the galaxy we are currently in that even common ailments are to be treated with caution in case they mutate."]
That didn't sound good, but she hadn't noticed any outward signs of illness. "Avalon, do we have a time scale on how long the Captain might be held in quarantine?" She knew Gary had an upcoming mission, Lia wasn't privy to exactly what the mission was about. But they were now a man down, "Also inform the command staff, I believe he had an upcoming mission."
["Timeline unknown. The commodore has been informed. She is going to inform those who need to know."] The AI paused. ["Visiting hours are being extended should you require them commander."]
"Thank you Avalon." Standing up she headed for the kitchen, but then an idea hit her. "Avalon, would it be a good idea for me to report to medical for a check up? Just in case I have the same illness?"
["Medical is scanning all crew. You are clear currently Commander."] The AI replied.
As she listened to the AI, Lia glanced out of the window. *Damn this bloody place* she thought. Turning back to face Avalon, Taylor's mind raced to find any sense in the whole situation. "Can I have daily reports on the condition of the Captain please, at least I'll know if he's responding well to treatment."
["Of course. I shall put that in the file though as his wife you would get them anyway."]
