"That's good to know". J'Air smiled. "I'll just input your scan results and data and then I can hand you over to the next shift. I hope you have a pleasant stay" she continued, all the while still gently gliding agile fingers over the LCARS and completing his "Admission".
Current:
As the day wore on, the marine Captain received several visits from various medical staff who tended to his first session of regeneration on his face and the soles of his feet. Later, just before it was time to serve the evening meal (at a ridiculously early time of the day as was the habit of medical facilities) a new face appeared at the bottom of the biobed.
She was an unusual looking woman with dark black irised betazoid eyes but in combination with Terran genetics that gave her a mass of wavy, wayward 'strawberry blonde' hair, pale skintone and an open, frank look that was both friendly and at the same time, unusual.
"Hi" the newest doctor told Ket. "I'm your Gamma Shift doctor of the day." she grinned at him, her smile showing slight shyness and a bit of a defence mask but with a ready laugh that disarmed the reserved look instantly. Scrolling through his "notes" on the console in the medarch over his shoulders she nodded thoughtfully. "I'm Rani" she added, matter of factly. "I'm your worst nightmare, I have to warn you. I'm nothing like as sweet and kind as my bosses although, I am going to be just a little bit kind for starters, just to put you off your guard." her eyes sparkled with what looked like mischief, if betazoid dark eyes could ever be fathomed and decoded.
"I'm thinking you must be pretty bored under this restrictive arch" she went on still reading his notes and talking in a distant manner so it wasn't easy for him to read any tone. "I wonder if I should I set you free? Or will you go on a rampage and murder all the other patients with a Batleth before I can sedate you back into a calm state again?" Her smile said this was an attempt at breaking ice with humour as she waited for his response.
Ket, who was laying on his back on the bio-bed, lifted himself up on his elbows so as to get a better look at the newcomer. "Good Evening Doctor Rani" responded Ket politely "I apologise, I believe your Hypothesis has one vital flaw in it. You see I do not know how to use a Batleth Ma'am."
"Well, that's a relief!" Rani grinned. "foolish of me to attempt humour with a Vulcan gentleman." she added, rhetorically commenting on having hoisted herself on her own patard.
Reading from the patient's details on the biobed screen, Rani determined that he wasn't ill enough currently to be confined by it. "You're under observation, my friend, not house arrest. I'm going to fit you with a portable scanner and Us & Es monitor so I can lower this bridge over you and let you walk about if you want to. However, it's holographically connected so you can't leave the boundaries of Sickbay or it will ....." she was about to joke that it would explode and then thought the better of such a mistake twice in half an hour! "it will let me know." she finished and collected the monitor which she attached to his chest just above the collar bone on the lefthand side.
Having released him and lowered the bioarch to physically complete his freedom, Rani sat down on the end of the bed. "There, what would you like to do now? There's a drinks replicator in Reception and a kitchenette behind the cubicle block down there." she pointed out where she meant.
"If you try a little standing up first and don't feel up to walking around just yet, I can go and get you some refreshments and you can stay here until you regain your balance and strength?"
"The drinks replicator will be fine thank you" responded Ket as he tried to swing himself of the biobed. Having been laying horizontal for most of the day, when he sat up his head swam a bit so he swayed a little as he got himself to a standing position
Stepping closer just to be in range if he were to stumble, Rani put out an arm to assist Ket to gain his balance. "Slowly" she encouraged him gently. "One step at a time, ok?"
Ket took the arm with a polite nod "Thank you" he said in his monotone demeanour. Ket was thankful to the doctor for help. In fact Ket reflected he had spent a lot of time thankful to doctors healing his injuries without question on hesitation "You are a master of your craft Lieutenant. I should know i have had many occasion in hospital."
"That is very kind Captain" Rani accepted the unexpected compliment graciously as she guided him by just walking alongside him gently and slowly, leaning in if he showed any signs of instability. It wasn't long before he seemed to be regaining enough strength to stay upright of his own volition and she slowed to a stop, close to an armchair in the "quiet room" off a little to one side of the main walkway. "You've done brilliantly for your first outing!" she grinned at him, her face full of optimism and (she hoped) encouragement.
"How about a little breather here?" she suggested, indicating the chair close by. "Perhaps I could fetch you something to drink or a snack while you catch your breath before wandering back again - no rush, later will be fine if you'd like to read or listen to some music?"
Ket rested one hand on the pummel of the lounge chair arm. He sucked in a bit of breath shook his head politely and pressed on the drinks replicator. Ket had a tendency on pushing his recovery when it came to his own body in the hospital environment and said environment was one he was used to. "No Thank you. I need a beverage." He almost dragged himself to the drinks replicator, his face stinging as he did so.
Rani let him go but stayed with her weight on her forward foot in case she needed to lunge forward and catch him anytime soon.
