It had been a hard day in Sickbay - well at least during Rotation Beta - the Main Daytime shift - one of the busiest of the 24hr day. J'Air had performed a total of three surgeries, none of which were simple or hitch free. Some of the "hitches" had been slight and not in any way alarming, just tiresome, but one in particular had been a complication that had challenged her and had necessitated some fancy suturing and quick reactions, not to mention some on the hoof, fast thinking as well.
She had coped with it all and no harm had managed to get a hold on anyone, but J'Air was tired nonetheless, tired yes, but still it was a satisfied feeling. Having washed herself off, dissolved away the 'spray on' gloves and checked that each case was fully cleared from Recovery and peacefully sleeping off their respective procedures, she treated herself to a sit down with a cup of her favourite Terran Rooibos Tea. Sipping away she leaned back in the deep chair in the Rest Room and let her mind drift to its favourite place..... ie anywhere that the CoB was. She sighed, almost an automatic reaction whenever she let her thoughts go looking for him.
Remembering the last time she had been with him, brought back thoughts of their wedding plans as that was the discussion point of that day - and many others lately to be honest!
J'Air had asked Chuck who he would invite to the wedding and he had mentioned a whole list of the senior officers, bringing it back to her attention that was what he actually was himself too! She was so close to him and he was so wonderful that she'd almost lost sight of the formality of his position, within the sweetness and joy that he always brought to her, he never made her aware of the difference in their status or the superiority of his rank. He wasn't the kind to treat her any differently than if they had been complete equals in all parts of their lives. She had such great love for him but no less respect for him either.
He was, in her opinion, more perfect than any one individual should be allowed to be! Her deep sigh of happiness and rather daft grin as she thought of his eyes looking at her with that sparkle and ..... at that moment J'Air's tea, objecting with understandable instability to the fact that she was unattentively tipping it to one side, spilled into her lap and onto her leg, startling her with its heat and unexpected arrival.
Jumping up, she made it worse and regretted that as well but somehow, in this cotton wool haze of happiness, the bride-to-be was able to keep it together and laugh at her own foolish lack of attention. Taking herself to the changing rooms, replacing her wet uniform tunic and trousers, J'Air restored her equilibrium and returned to work. Efficiently handling everything that emerged out of the last clinic of the day, she signed off her shift and handed over to her colleagues feeling.
Commander Sthilg, her boss, the CMO, had been kind enough to be complimentary about her efficiency in handling her day's workload and, confidence boosted by this, J'Air was able to rethink her initial idea that having the Senior Staff at their wedding would make her nervous. She strode down the corridor with a new attitude, thinking that if Chuck was happy enough to ask her to marry him, then she could have no trouble in making him proud of her taking it in her stride! She could be confident and outgoing when she was at work, so what was stopping her being confident about everything else? If Chuck believed in her then there was nothing in the whole universe she couldn't do because he had shown he believed in her and that made her a new woman. It made perfect sense at last!
J'Air almost skipped back to her quarters and set about making a spectacular supper for the love of her life. They were going to be the happiest couple and it set her heart on fire to start *right NOW*. Cooking up a storm, all she then had to do was wait for him to return. The ACMO had never been so happy nor so super inspired in her whole life!
