Mission: Episode 1: Hell is a four letter word
Location: Jaeih and Wynter's joint cabin
Timeline: MD 3 - late
919 words - 1.8 OF Standard Post Measure

The day had been chaotic. The crew was on alert and yet even as they hurtled through space towards the last known location of the Elysium's command staff, Jaeih found herself entering the cabin she shared with Wynter, her aunt at her back.

"Wynter?" she called out. "We have company."

Wynter stuck his head out from the kitchen, PADD in his hand as he looked over at Jaeih. "What do you mean hun?" He asked as he went back to reviewing the last bit of intel which had scrolled across the PADD.

She sighed. "Put the PADD down Wynter. Commodore Mountbatten is here." She reached out and pushed the PADD Down.

Evelyn hid a smile behind her hand and then straightened her face. "Lieutenant."

"Commodore." He said as he stopped, "My apologies, just trying to get through as much of this intel as possible."

"No worries Lieutenant. This is an informal visit. I do not get a lot of time to spend with my niece so I thought now would be good." Evelyn said.

Jaeih winced. "I.. uahhh.. had not told him."

Wynter chuckled. "Understood Commodore." He said as he smiled at Jaieh ~You could have warned me.~

~Slipped my mind~ She sent as she headed for the kitchen and the good tea set she kept for such occasions. ~That and really, who wants to say that their Aunt is a Commodore~ Out loud she said. "Jasmine tea Aunt Eve?"

"Please Jaeih. And when you come out of hiding, we will talk about your behavior today."

"Aw come on, those idiots deserved it." Jaeih called out.

Wynter raised an eyebrow. "Do I want to know?"

"Jaeih has a smart arsed mouth and is on report." Evelyn said. She calmly surveyed the man her niece was living with, remembering the reports she had, had complied along with Jaeih's father on the man. He was so far living up to them.

Jaeih came out carrying the tray. "In my defense, you brought them onto the ship, knowing what they were and how, people would react." She waved her aunt to the sitting area.

Wynter sighed. "Jae seriously come on." He said as he shook his head and turned back to his PADD for a moment.

She narrowed her gaze at him. "That looser Lovejoy was it? he was trying to sink the captain and XO by saying they were not doing their jobs. He is lucky he still has his teeth."

"Jaeih!" Evelyn said as her niece poured tea.

"Well he is and don't get me started on that Albright guy who not content to make snarky remarks, contacts the Erisians to collect Miran, great choice in Aides there Aunt Eve. Miran was gonna gut him right there and then."

Evelyn took the cup held out. "i know. Which i am grateful she didn't." She paused and said "Jaeih, you need to breathe. I am sure the captain will stop whatever Percy and Garrett put in place but still. You need to calm down."

"I didn't think they had the balls to put your niece on report." Jaeih commented.

"Oh they have the balls and more. Garrett can make or break your career and before you through your cousin in the mix, Believe me, I know how you think." Evelyn sipped her tea, "You need to show them over the next few days that they are wrong."

"Why did you bring them then?"

"Because of my staff they have been the most vocal against Captain Lalor taking command. And I wanted to see what would happen." Evelyn looked at Wynter. "And you Lieutenant? What do you think of my Aides?"

"Given the current conversation, I believe they have an agenda

"And you would be correct." Evelyn said calmly. "Garrett wants a center chair. But with most CO's not budging and having more than expert XO's in their wings... it is a hard thing. So he has his eye on moving weak links out of the command loop."

Wynter chuckled. "He has a lot to learn about what makes a good Captain first Commodore, if what I have heard is true. He would have to push out the entire senior staff, and most of the junior officers with this tactic. That is not something Starfleet likes doing."

"True. I think this will be an eye opening experience for him." Evelyn said calmly. Then she looked at Jaeih. "Your father is insisting on having Christmas in Aspen this year. Will you be attending?"

Jaeih shrugged. "I do not know. Depends on where the Elysium is i guess and if i can get some actual shore leave."

"Jae we both know you will be there." He sighed.

She rolled her eyes at him. "We will see." She said. "If I go, I would like you to come with me."

"I know Jae." He said with a soft smile.

Evelyn studied the interaction, and hid a smile behind her tea cup. "I should leave you both to your evening and to your research. I hope to have a meeting tomorrow morning, I will call you both to it."
She stood, placed the cup down on the tray. She bent and kissed Jaeih's cheek. "Good night Jaeie"

"Night Aunt Eve." Jaeih stood to escort her out.

"Nice meeting you Wynter" Evelyn held out her hand to him to shake.

Wynter took the Commodore's hand and shook it. " It was a pleasure Commodore."

Evelyn left the cabin, leaving Jaeih and Wynter to exchange their daily news.
