OOC"

The thirty days passed with infinite slowness for Savar. The worst of it was it left him with plenty of time to think. He had been found guilty in what amounted to a lapse of judgment and leadership despite the fact he had saved three people. He had been reduced two grades in rank and removed from the Elysium Counseling Department and reassigned to the Academy Counseling Department putting him in direct contact with the cadets he had been convicted of letting down. He silently questioned the logic of the assignment but kept his thoughts to himself as he was in no position to question anything. He had gone from being a senior officer to a junior one and the fall severely stung his pride and self worth.

Finally the sentence was over and he was freed at least free of the cell but not free of his thoughts. Exiting the brig he, he was still in teal colored uniform of medical/counseling. He wasn't surprised to see Alicia waiting for him. She was his biggest supporter as well as devoted wife. "Alicia." He said softly in greeting as he moved to her. the sooner they got to their quarters the quicker he would be away from the stares and hushed whispers.

“Savar” Alicia hugged her beloved husband, she hadn’t gotten to do so in the thirty days he’d been locked up. “Let’s go home, the kids are waiting to see you.”

"Alicia, my love." Savar replied to his beloved wife as he returned her hug. "Yes, home sounds like a wonderful idea." He didn't say it but it would provide a safe haven for him at least temporarily. As they left the brig and headed for their quarters, Savar knew what he had always known and was always thankful and grateful for, Alicia was the one person he could always count on for love and support.

“I’m so sorry this happened to you Imzadi,” Alicia offered as they walked along. “I can’t say I agree with any of what’s happened, but it has and we’ll carry on as we always do.”

Savar was silent as they walked to their quarters. As always Alicia exuded positivity which he was normally a great admirer of but right now it eluded him. After a few seconds of silence he managed a reply. "Yes, of course we will." But even as they drew nearer their quarters, he was thinking. His time in the brig could never be returned and what of the respect he had earned from other officers and crew? Not to mention his own self respect. All questions that unfortunately did not have answers to.

Once they arrived and entered their quarters, and the mad rush of children greeting their father was over, Alicia sat down beside Savar. “You’re very quiet, are you worried about how others will perceive you?”

After a happy reunion with the children and promising to spend time with them later. Savar nodded at Alicia's statement. "I apologize to you for bringing embarrassment and shame to you and the children. Your husband and the children's father is a criminal." He said quietly.

“You have no need to apologise!” Alicia was quick to add. “You saved the lives of Heather and her children, we’d have lost them too if it wasn’t for you.”

Savar looked at her, his eyes on hers. "From the day we first met up to and including now. My love for you has grown. You are a wonderful wife and my best friend and of course my soulmate." He paused for a moment. "I am afraid others do not share your perspective. Hence my demotion, brig time and reassignment to the Academy. Which I do not understand and adds to the fact I am a criminal."

“You are no criminal, not in my eyes!” Alicia added as she looked into Savar’s eyes. “I wish you were still in the department with us, but now that isn’t an option I’ll support you however I can in your new role.”

Savar met Alicia's gaze for a moment before dropping his head it hung down, his spirit, confidence and self worth had all taken a severe beating with the results of the trial. He heard Alicia's voice and was glad for her love and support. "Counseling was my career. I found satisfaction in helping others and now that has been taken away." He raised his head, "Not that I think anyone would come to see me after the trial." He paused and closed his eyes for a brief moment. When he opened them he looked at her, "Now, I am a teacher, a teacher to the very cadets that accused me. I do not see this as a good situation. Perhaps I should consider transferring to another department."

“That’s your decision my love, but don’t allow your worries to put you off this challenge.” Alicia added. “I know it’s not something to look forward to, but those cadets need to learn that you’re a man who cares. They don’t have the full picture.”

Savar was silent as he thought on Alicia's words. When he replied it was on a different topic. "Do you know when my family hears of this, my name will no longer be spoken by them. I will cease to exist. You and the children will still be welcome to family gatherings and affairs." His voice quiet, "I have brought dishonor to the family."

“I didn’t know that, are Vulcans really so cruel as to do that?” Alicia shook her head. “I’m sorry but if I saw your family they’d get a piece of my mind, that’s not fair!”

"Vulcans do not see it as cruel. It is viewed as logical to disassociate the family from the one who has brought shame to the family name." He paused and then continued. " Indeed you may not view it as fair and none of what had happened has been fair but it seem to be the way things are." Savar replied.

Alicia nodded. “Then Vulcan logic in this case is illogical, cruel and uncaring.” She shook her head.

Savar inclined a fraction as Alicia's comment. "Perhaps my wife but it has been this way for thousands of years." He observed.

Alicia shook her head. “Vulcans are so far behind in some of their beliefs. I’m sorry I shouldn’t be bad mouthing your culture but that’s how I feel.”

"You have nothing to apologize for. You are being honest in your feelings and I wish you to always be honest." Savar answered and grew silent. After a few seconds he spoke softly. "I have lost my dignity, the respect of others, been demoted and locked in the brig. All for saving three lives. All that I have left is you and the children." He stated.

“You will never lose us Imzadi, and you know very well those who know you the best won’t have lost any respect for you.” Alicia answered honestly. “I would imagine Heather is feeling quite upset given that your punishment was for saving her.”

"Heather has nothing to to be upset over, I do not hold her responsible for the outcome of the trial and sentence." Savar answered. "Thank you for your love and continued support, I find myself in need of both."

Alicia nodded. She wished she could just wave a magic wand and put everything right for her beloved husband but she knew that wasn’t possible. “Don’t let them bring you down, hold your head high.”

Savar nodded at Alicia's advice. "I hear what you are saying and it is excellent advice. It is just exceedingly difficult to do so at this time." He admitted which added to his feeling of being weak.

“I know it is” Alicia added offering Savar some comfort. “We will get past this, I promise you that.”

"Yes, of course we will." Savar answered almost automatically. But inwardly he wondered when that would be and how long would it be before he viewed himself in a positive manner.

“I can feel your uncertainty and your worry Imzadi.” Alicia added as she looked at Savar. “ You are strong and you did nothing wrong! I don’t agree with the ruling you received, but I don’t know if trying to appeal it would make things worse for you.”

"Your love and support sustain me Alicia. An appeal is worth considering but who would I appeal to? The Commodore? She already made her ruling." Savar pointed out.

“I know, maybe I’m just pulling at straws. Maybe we’re stuck with this.” Alicia offered. “If we are, then we make the most of it even if I have to pop in as a guest in class one day.”

"I do not feel you are pulling at straws." Savar answered. "I just wish the Commodore realized the scope what this decision has done." He grew quiet and then nodded at Alicia's statement. "Having you as a guest would be quite the coup of that I have no doubt."

“Well it would give me chance to observe your class and see what advice I could give you in handling any problems” Alicia added.

"That is very true and I could use all the help I can get so anything you can do to assist me is greatly appreciated." Savar replied quietly.

Alicia smiled. “Imzadi I would turn the universe upside down for you if I could. I’d change everything to put this right for you.”

Savar's eyes were full of love for his marvelous, loving wife. "Thank you Alicia. It is your love that sustains me and makes this entire situation bearable."

“Then I will be your rock, as you have always been mine.” Alicia smiled. “You were there for me when I needed you the most, now I will be there for you.”

"No need to be my rock. Instead be what you have always been, my wife, my best friend and biggest supporter," Savar replied. "That is what I want."

Alicia nodded and smiled. “I will always be that Imzadi.”

"And I am ever grateful and thankful that you are and will remain so. It is the one thing that brings me peace right now."

Alicia offered a hug before motioning to their children. “Let’s go and enjoy family time, the perfect way to forget everything.”

Savar returned the hug and held it for a moment before releasing it. "An idea I can fully get behind and support. Nothing is as important as family."

“Exactly” Alicia smiled warmly, “I think Soral has been waiting for some time with you, he was quite concerned about you.”

"His concern is appreciated. I hope he does not think less of me or that I am a poor father because of this incident," Savar responded quietly.

“Of course he doesn’t, in-fact he thinks the whole thing is completely illogical.” Alicia smiled warmly.

"I am pleased he has not lost faith in me." Savar replied. "Illogical. I seem to be saying that word quite a lot recently."

“I just put it down to being Vulcan” Alicia grinned. “We shouldn’t dwell on what we can’t change I guess, but I know it’s difficult not to.”

"Perhaps you are right." Savar remarked. "I confess it is hard not to dwell on this my love as it has affected me more than I realize."

“Then let time with us give you something else to dwell on, at least for now” Alicia smiled warmly.

"An excellent suggestion. I shall dwell on you and the children. For each of you truly is important." Savar answered, squeezing Alicia's hand softly.
