Gary had seen the newly liberated XB when it had first been brought aboard by Elysium crew members., saw it's uncertainty and failure to grasp its current situation even as Commander Rin talked to it and attempted to explain that it was no longer part of the Collective and had not been part for over eighty years. To see if there was something to help it get acclimated to the crew and its new home, he asked Alicia to join him so he could her intake on the situation as well as any advice she might have. He also asked security to bring Two of Eight to his Ready Room.
Alicia was in the Ready Room waiting for Two of Eight’s arrival, she knew all too well from reading up on prior XB’s that this wasn’t going to be easy.
"Thanks for coming Alicia. Wanted to get your insights and any advice you might have on to move forward with Two."
“From what I know of helping ex-Borg, which isn’t a lot, it’s going to be a long-haul job.” Alicia smiled a wry smile. “We have to help two reintegrate. To learn what it is to be a person again.”
Gary nodded, "Let them rediscover their individuality. You are right. This isn't going to be a simple fix. This is going to be a marathon.
Alicia nodded in agreement. “A very long marathon.”
" Very, very true," Gary agreed.
Two of Eight arrived without much fanfare, more Klingon now than Borg, her struggle to adapt to life both outside of the Borg Collective and free of the prison it had been kept in for decades was ongoing, time would tell how long Two of Eight would take to adjust to the realities she/it now faced.
The other xB aboard had explained quite a bit to Two of Eight, which had begun to filter through the Borg programming, it was free, whatever freedom truly meant, Two of Eight was experiencing what appeared to be flashbacks to its past, which only added to its confusion, perhaps its rescuers could help explain what these represented.
"You wished to see us," Two of Eight said to Gary and Alicia "You wished to see me," Two of Eight added a moment later.
Gary shared a look with Alicia before replying to Two. "Yes we did. Please come in and have a seat. Would you like something to drink? He asked looking at what now appeared to be a Klingon XB.
Two of Eight studied Gary for a brief moment "Water would be appreciated," it replied though it did not require anything to eat or drink to survive.
Gary got up and went to the replicator to get Two the water it wanted. A moment later he returned and handed the glass to Two. "Here you go."
Two of Eight accepted the glass of water from Gary.
Alicia offered a calming smile. “I’m Alicia, ship’s Counsellor it’s my job to try and help you integrate here. I know this must all be very…disconcerting for you.”
" Alicia is correct. We're here to assist you in becoming more comfortable in these surroundings as well as help you in finding a position you like." Gary added.
Two of Eight stood there processing what Gary and Alicia had just said, there was so much it needed to come to terms with that the process would take quite some time to complete.
"It is quite disconcerting for us/me, it has been so long since I was part of anything, Borg or otherwise, so much has no doubt happened, it will take quite some time to understand what has happened," Two of Eight replied "Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated," Two of Eight added.
“Okay” Alicia smiled. “Let’s start with a little information to help us find you the right position onboard ship. What interests you Two? Where do your skills serve you the best?”
Gary nodded, :Excellent idea. So how about it? What was your specialty before being taken?"
"We/I were assimilated as a juvenile, I/we have no speciality," Two of Eight replied "Prior to assimilation I/we helped out on the family vessel, my father was the captain and my mother the chief medical Officer" Two of Eight added.
Two of Eight had zero additional memories of her parents or their vessel, all relevant data had been purged by the Collective decades ago.
"We have little skills or interests of note; Borg drones do not possess such traits," Two of Eight replied.
"That may well be true if you were still a Borg drone but you are not so, you are free to decide on what you would like to do. Do or did you have any interests before you were assimilated?" Gary asked.
"I/we had several areas of interest aboard the family vessel," Two of Eight admitted "Perhaps spending time in various areas of this vessel will help us formulate a better idea where I/we would be best suited," Two of Eight added.
"I think that is a good place to start with previous areas of interest. Perhaps one will catch your interest again and you will want to look further into it and possibly make it a career." Gary offered.
“In the meantime we’ll help you to integrate here as best as we can. Perhaps you could spend some time in various departments seeing if any of those suit you.” Alicia added with a smile.
"Is there any specific area you wish to start with?" Gary asked Two.
"I/we had an interest in engineering before assimilation, I/we also shared a budding passion for medicine, due to the fact the medical officer of the ship I/we were aboard was our mother," Two of Eight replied.
Gary nodded, "That's a start. We can set up a tour of engineering to see if there is anything that attracts your interest and do the same with medical."
Alicia nodded. “It’s definitely two good options to start with.”
Two of Eight listened to Gary and Alicia reply to her response, they seemed to be quite receptive.
"I/we look forward to starting there then," Two of Eight stated.
"Excellent. He looked to Alicia, "I think it should be soon. What do you think?"
“I agree, the sooner the better” Alicia smiled and nodded.
"Agreed, the sooner the better," Two of Eight replied "I/we are keen to begin reintegration into a world outside of the Collective and embrace true freedom," Two of Eight added.
"Just take it slow and easy. Don't force anything. You have a lot of catching up to do." Gary pointed out.
Two of Eight nodded in agreement.
"I agree, taking it slowly makes sense, rushing into things, might make life more complicated than it has to be," Two of Eight stated "Do you have any suggestions about what I might do in the meantime to assist in reorientating myself in this modern era?" Two of Eight asked.
“We have plenty of literature, and other data you could research.” Alicia smiled. “You could also use the holodeck to help you integrate; you can run unlimited simulations in there if that is of interest to you?”
"Alicia is right. You have a wide array of tools to choose from to help you decide which department you would like to be a part of." Gary added.
Two of Eight processed what Gary and Alicia had stated.
"I/we shall begin the literature and data, and supplement that with the holodeck," Two of Eight stated "I look forward to the chance to get a firmer grip on how much has changed since I was last sentient," Two of Eight added.
