New ship, new school. Seemed familiar but Seraphym was determined to make it work this time. She Found her cabin and entered into the shared space. Duffel in hand she paused and looked around.
Milla walked in next, laughing still at something Jessica had said nearly half an hour prior now. It was her first night staying in her quarters instead of with her sister and she hadn't known what to expect, ~Won't be here long enough to find out, either.~ Milla thought, reminding herself of her impending wedding.
Seraphym had moved to look at the door plaques. She turned as the cadet entered the room. "Oh Hi" she said trying for brightness. "I am Seraphym. You must be one of my roommates."
"Seraphym? If I remember correctly that's some kind of an angel." Milla remembered, taking in the beautiful blonde, "I can see where that comes from, yes. I'm Milla, I'm your roomie, just moved in myself."
A soiled angel, Sera thought but smiled anyway. "What courses are you studying?" she asked as she found her bedroom and all but threw the duffle into it.
"Guess." Milla challenged, though she figured Seraphym was going to look at her and say Marine, like everyone else did.
Sera turned and studied her. "Hmm Operations?"
"Close!" Milla smiled, adding a soft clap, "Engineering. Most people look at my hair and think Marine right off the bat."
"That's sloppy thinking on their part." Sera replied.
"Thank you!" Milla laughed, "I like to think that one, I'm cute, and two I have better manners than your average jarhead."
"Indeed you do" Seraphym nodded. "Well at least Engineering is interesting. And with the new drive I hear they have installed, your classes will be fun."
"Yeah, though my fiance, she has the exciting job." Milla began, bragging on Jessica was something of a hobby for her now, "She's a fighter pilot."
"Ah an interesting job" Sera smiled. "I had heard we have such items on the Elysium."
Without being asked or given any reason to believe anyone was interested, she pulled up a picture of herself and Jessica on her PaDD, "That's her, and the one behind her looking pissed off is my sister. She thinks we're moving too fast."
Sera noted the ranks on the women's collars. "Ah. I am sure your sister is just being protective. I hear older siblings can be like that."
"Annoyingly so." Milla laughed, "Though it's ironic for her to be lecturing me about my relationship when her current girlfriend is a Q and her last girlfriend didn't tell her who she really was until she had no choice in the matter."
Sera was puzzled about the fact that someone was dating a Q. "Is she happy?"
"She says so, but Anje's so pathetically desperate to have someone permanently in her life that I think she'd date a targ if it would stay." Milla laughed, "And I think she feels more desperation now that I'm about to get married."
"As i am an only child, I am not able to comment. But it must be nice to have family that looks out for you." Sera replied.
"It is nice." Milla admitted, "She gets on my nerves sometimes, but I do love Anje."
Sera nodded "And I am sure she loves you, which is why the two of you worry about each other's relationships, maybe if you both tried being supportive, it might be easier for you both?"
"You're probably right." Milla smiled, Sera seemed to have a pretty wise approach to this whole life thing, "As a rule since I came aboard she and I were sharing her quarters, even sleeping together, this is going to be weird for me for a bit, but I wanted to give her some space to see where her current relationship goes."
Sera smiled at that. "Then things will work out."
"Right." Milla smiled, "Though having Anje right there is something I'm really going to miss."
"Not like she is on another ship" Sera replied "And no one says you cannot visit her"
"I know, but it isn't the same." Milla sighed as she took a seat on her bed, "I mean, since I came aboard here, I've gotten used to waking up and seeing her right there, you know?"
Sera nodded and began to unpack her belongings. "Well, I am sure it is a matter of getting used to such things." She said as she pulled out a small holocube and set it on her bedside table.
"You're probably right, I'm sure." Milla shrugged, she liked Sera already, "And it's not like I'm not going to be moving in with my wife after the wedding. Which I still have to plan for..."
"Oh? So when is that?" Sera asked curious.
"We haven't set a date yet, but the sooner the better." Milla smiled, "And I've got to figure out the dresses for my bridesmaids, my dress, the theme for the wedding. So much to do..."
"As well as study your courses and such" Sera added with a slight smile.
"Yes!" Milla exclaimed as though suddenly remembering she was, in fact, in school and had classes to take and exams to pass, "My parents would kill me if I flunked out of the Academy."
"Maybe you should plan for it to happen at the scholastic year's end. Give some of the planning to your fiance?" Sera hung up her uniforms and unpacked her small box of old books.
"Right." Milla nodded, she'd been calling pretty much all the shots for this whole thing, "I mean, it's Jessica's wedding, too, she should get to plan part of it."
"hmmuh" The sound Sera made was of approval. She finished stacking the books neatly on the book shelf and then paused, considered and picked up the holocube and placed it beside the books. "Things are more manageable when you break them down."
"Yeah." Milla quickly agreed, her roommate was making sense, "I'll focus on the aesthetics of the bridal party, let Jessica handle the stuff she wants to, and we'll figure out the rest as we go."
Sera finished her unpacking and then turned to check her next task. "Speaking of breaking things down, I have to check in with the Academy's Science Lecturer."
"Oh, well, that's cool." Milla shrugged, she wasn't totally sure who the Science Lecturer was, "So, are you on the science track?"
"yes. I am doing a double major in science."
"Nice." Milla nodded approvingly, "I'm doing engineering, though I might try to fighter qualify."
"Would they allow that? What with your fiance being in that department?"
"Only one way to find out." Milla shrugged, she hadn't thought about the idea that she might not be able to join the fighter wing because she was going to be the wing commander's wife, but the worst they could do was say no, right?
"True, you never know unless you try." Sera sat down on the bunk and picked up her PADD to check directions.
"Right." Milla laughed, "Not like I've never been told no before. Sure, it's kind of rare for me, but it has happened."
"Ah." Sera said softly. "Lucky you."
"What?" Milla laughed, "I'm cute, I tend to get my way a lot. You probably have, too."
"Um.. no." Sera said without explanation. She was not wanting to go into that.
"Okay, fair enough." Milla said, not realizing she'd hit a nerve, she couldn't have.
Sera forced a smile onto her face and stood"um.. if you want to bring your fiance back here, can you give me a warning so I don't disturb you"
"Yeah, there will be a pilot's jacket hanging on the door if she's here." Milla smiled, hanging a picture of herself and Anje from right after Anje got together with that bitch Cheline Halliwell, the one where they looked so much alike.
"Okay. Well i best get to that meeting... " Sera headed for the door.
"Okay, have fun." Milla smiled, "See you later."
Sera nodded and slipped from the room.
