Mission: Season 3: Episode 4: Cause and Effect
Location: Deck 18 - Science Labs
Timeline: MD3
463 words - 0.9 OF Standard Post Measure

Triston had, heard on the grapevine (Namely Miran who had access to all files) that there was an Archeologist on board who, though a civilian had a very good resume, which included graduating from Cambridge University. So, with this information in hand, he had, after his last class for the day, headed to deck 18 and after a quick conference with Avalon, found himself outside the office of one Malak Kavanagh.

The information on the man had been very interesting, so Triston had screwed up his courage and knocked on the door.

The door opened and a tall man stood in the door way. His broad shoulders seemed to fill it. "Yes Cadet?" He said, his accent was what Miran would term as Cultured.

"Mr Kavanagh? I am Triston Montgomery, I am a science Cadet, studying at the onboard academy and I was wondering if you would require an intern." Triston got out, in a rush.

Malak studied the tall blond haired teenager before him. He had not even been on board a week. He had been quiet about it too, and now he had a cadet at his door. "How did you hear about me?" he asked curiously, bracing his shoulder against the door frame.

Triston had to flush at that. "Ah contacts." he said carefully.

"Contacts?"

"Yes Sir."

"Strange as the only people with access to my records would be the Chief of Science, the Chief of Operations and the Command crew." He peered at Triston. "None of whom have the last name Montague."

"No Sir they do not. I found out from a friend of mine who is in that group."

"A cadet with friends in high places?" Malak drawled.

"Yes Sir."

Malak wondered about that. "Why do you want to be an intern?"

"My major is Archeology, and Your history with it... I want to learn all that I can."

"And you know that there is not much to do on a starship right?"

"Not now but when we go to different planets.." Triston said calmly, "And you have a great reputation, who better to learn from?"

"Your instructors at the academy may disagree." Malak said evenly.

Triston shrugged. "I understand, but can you please consider it?"

"Of course. Come back tomorrow I will let you know." Malak said. He could always use grunt labor.

Triston smiled and held out a PADD. "My academic records." he said and then added. "Thank you Mr Kavanagh." Then the teenager was off back down the hall, leaving Malak watching after him.

Well before he agreed, he would do some investigating of his own. Triston Montgomery was not going to just slide around the way he had discovered Malak's presence with a plain "Contacts."
With that in mind, he went back into his office.
