Mission:
Season 3: Episode 4: Cause and Effect
Location: Deck 4 - Arcadia Bar and Lounge
Timeline: MD1
1095 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure
Arcadia was quiet this time of the day, something S'hib had only just noticed as he glanced up from his cold soup, the heat having long since left made him wonder just how long he had been sat there lost in thought.
But, as he stirred his spoon around the thick yellow soup, breaking the layer of skin that had formed on its surface, he realised that he couldn't even remember what he was just thinking about; if anything at all.
"Cold again..." He sighed, letting go of the spoon with a disheartened snort as it clinked against the bowl. This wasn't the first time he had completely blanked, but one of the first times he had noticed. Something that bothered him greatly as he rested his chin in his hands as he looked out of the window by his small table.
Walking through the massive ship, Max had no idea on how big it was, just the specifications from Starfleet that the Elysium was huge. So deciding to walk around and see the sights of the ship, the stomach inside of Max was now doing cartwheels as his belly began to growl in a loud voice.
Deciding to walk a bit further, Max now thoroughly famished found the Arcadia, a nice little old Bistro located somewhere in the ship. Looking at the Menu, Max saw that it featured a menu of almost a thousand dishes, and even had an old fashioned "Pastrami and Rye bread, with several thick pieces of Pastrami, pickle, lettuce, and swiss cheese, so seeing that Max stepped into the quiet Arcadia intent on just sitting there and savouring the sandwich.
Though the Arcadia was quiet at this time of day, several of the tables had their chairs upturned upside down allowing the maintenance crew to better clean the plush rugs, and after receiving his order, Max spotted the Security Officer who was a Sequus, and was sitting alone by himself, who seemed deeply troubled with something on his mind. So Max took a table by the Sequine, was now enjoying his meal like it was "going out of style",
S'hib blinked away from the window, disturbed by the sudden movement of chairs and the sounds of food being enjoyed far more so than his. "You're up late..." he said through a wide yawn, his lips curling back as he tried to remember how to be awake. "Everything alright?" He asked curiously, finding it odd to see people around the ship who weren't actively on duty.
"Well I see why not", replied Max; and if its any consequence to you Lt, I'm the ships new Chaplain... You can call me "Max", or just plain Revererend Solanga. As for my rank which I do not generally wear while on duty, I'm a Lieutenant with the Chaplaincy Corp.
So please don't let my joyful enjoyment of my meal prevent you from meditating, replied Max as he slowly ate, watching the Sequines next move.
"Meditating? Oh, yeah no I've just had a lot on my mind recently..." He said staring back as his soup, wondering if they would reheat it a second time. "It's not exactly conversation material either," He smiled, glancing back up. "So uh, Chaplain eh? must be strange... whole galaxies worth of people with their own idea on god, some of them more real than most." He asked, his question vague and unintentionally condescending.
Hearing something in the Sequines voice, that sounded Condescending, which for the horse was probably a way that his species thought of humans, and their mixed bag of individualistic attitudes. Max began to inch closer to the "Horse", well he hadn't seen one up close, and so, for now, he thought of the Lieutenant as one big fucking horse, with issues that seemed too human or were they?
So Max just said...
"Well Lieutenant, if you don't mind; I'd like to sit here and continue my meal, and deciding to take the bull by the horns Max said...Lieutenant by the sound of your condescending voice, it seems like someone kicked you in the balls!, And now you have this condescending attitude. replied Max who had this type of grin that was not condescending, abusive, or one that sought to strike out, it was just his way of trying to see if the other person would react to certain stimuli, that he learned in his masters of arts class in Counseling.....
As far as the galaxy with its billions of living breathing, and religious following souls, I find that being out here in space among the stars will help me to work with many Federation races in understanding their reasons on the matter of spirituality, wouldn't you agree with that Lieutenant? Now to me you seem to be preoccupied with a certain problem, and who am I to interfere with your own issues. If you'll allow me to be your sounding board, maybe through verbalization of your issues you can find the answer to your questions...
Then Max, returned back to his meal, going back for seconds and even desert...
"No, no I don't think I will..." S'hib snorted as he stood from his seat, picking up his bowl and leaving with a deep frown across his face. "Enjoy your meal." He grumbled, carrying his cold soup to the recycler near the bar.
For Max he just sat there listening to the Sequine speak, not ruffled by the brusque brushoff exhibited by the Lieutenant, Max smile and said... "Any time you want to come out and see the holochapel for your own reasons, the doors are always open at anytime of the day or night, replied Max.
Remaining silent as he approached the recycler, his teeth grinding somewhat as he placed his bowl down. He was tired, feeling it in the subtle shake of his legs... now though, he was annoyed... no... Angry he thought, snorting loudly as the recycler decompressed his cold soup back into the system.
"Thank you for the offer," He said with a somewhat raised voice, unsure what was causing this volatile reaction. "But it would probably be best if I didn't..." He added before hurrying himself towards the exit, fighting a burning rage swelling in his chest.
Max detecting a bit of angryness coming from the Sequine, decided that forthis meeting at least he made himself known to the lieutenant, so Max just said 'Have a good day Lieutenant", then returned back to his soup.
