Kara sighed a little and took a sip of her coffee. The team were all perfectly on time, all the equipment was loaded without issue, so why did she still feel uneasy? Perhaps it was because she had opted to take Holt along with her. ~Better to keep an eye on him~ She thought. Looking round to Miraj, she asked. "Ensign, what is our Eta to the closest cluster of asteroids?"
Holt, his typical quiet self sat right at the very back of the shuttle. His knees were crossed and he was relatively relaxed. "Probably another thirty minutes at this pace, can't we hurry up and get this over with?" He quipped, looking for retaliation.
Miraj glanced over her shoulder. They were twenty minutes out at full impulse. But there was at least Jupiter between themselves and earth. She added some calculations to the navigation. Warp 3 wasn't that fast. Not when they were this close.
For less than a second, the stars were streaks. "We're here now."
Kara blinked. Within moments they were inside the asteroid field. "Well. I'm sure glad you came along." She turned to scowl at Holt, who simply stared blankly back at her. She let out a groan of exasperation, turning back to her sensors display, clicking her fingers with delight. "Yes! I found an asteroid with everything we need, it should be large enough for us to land on. Heading 324 mark 34. Do you see it Miraj?" She asked.
Miraj turned the shuttle so they were staring at it, and whilst it looked small a hundred kilometers out, the scan threw up several good sites. "Yeah, swinging the lead, that one. No trouble." She gunned the sublight engines and a few minutes later they were decending towards the surface. "Standby the landing drills," was all the warning they got as the shuttle dropped down, and it shook hard for a moment as three fixing points emerged from the bottom of the shuttle craft and bore down deep into the rock, fixing the vessel firmly to the asteroid so it wouldn't float away in the zero gravity.
Kara held tight to her seat as they landed. "Perfectly done. Holt get the Eva suits please, I'll double check all the mining equipment." She stood from her chair moving to the large containers opposite Holt. Opening them she inspected the contents against the padd which lay inside. "Three phaser excavators, check. Two mineral modified Tricorders, check. Four emergency Oxygen tanks, check. Standard phase rifle and two standard issue phasers, check. Three pairs of atmo boots, with one pair spare, check. Three modified transport beacons, check. last but not least, the container for our mined ore and minerals, check. All the equipment is set." She said at last, closing the containers.
Holt meanwhile had moved to the very back of the shuttle and was pulling out the EVA equipment, silently.
Reo'thanra sandtail shifted nervously his bright Yellow eyes locked on the Main view screen with a sense of worry and nervousness he couldn't Shake. "I had to be chosen for this..." he said quietly. "I really don't like Being shuttles," he muttered quietly his large motored ears flattening to his skull as his gaze shifted the EVA equipment. "What Can I do help out," He asked, his voice thick with an alien accent that caused the shuttles Universal Translator to strain.
Kara smiled. "Let's all get suited up and get what we need. Should be quick and easy. We'll be back home in time for a nice warm cup of coffee or whichever beverage you most prefer before you know it."
