Assignment Confirmation

Phoenix had, after days of discussion, gotten confirmation from the BUPERS team back on Earth that Lieutenant Barclay de Tolly would be assigned to the Elysium. For reasons unknown to her, Lt. Hoffman was demoted to Assistant chief of Engineering. Something she made sure BUPERS communicated themselves rather than leave herself in the firing line. So with this information in hand, she contacted the XO and Lieutenant Barclay de Tolly and summoned them to her ready room.

Victor hearing the summons proceeded to the ready room. He was in uniform and out of respect since he had not accepted the commission yet, he had no bars on his collar. He walked as he stood there waiting the verdict is. He has had his physical and Counselor evaluation. Now is first hour for the rest of his life in Starfleet in this universe.

Gary sat in one of the chairs in front of Phoenix's desk waiting for their newest crewmember.

"Ah good" Phoenix said as she stood up. "Lieutenant, I have been in contact with BUPERS and they have given me your new assignment. Here, on Elysium, as Chief Engineer."

"Thank you Captain," Victor says saluting which he only does when he feels it is appropriate. "I will do better than my best." Victor was a perfectionist and he always goes the extra mile. He understood he received a reduction in rank. His circumstance is different than others plus he is only twenty-nine years old. This is an opportunity to prove himself once again. Plus he already likes the crew and ship.

Gary stood and extended his hand. "We haven't met yet. I'm Gary Taylor, XO of the Elysium. Welcome to the best ship and crew in the fleet."

"I am glad to be here Commander," Victor says giving him a good handshake. "Some how I feel I was meant to be here.."

"And we're glad to have you Mr. de Tolly. Any questions you may have, just ask my door is always open." Gary answered with a grin.

He was about to ask one more but thinking before he spoke, he decided not to do so. "Thank you both. I will make sure the Engineers are organized and I will encourage their input. I will also make sue we fill the vacancies so we will be working with a few compliment of Engineers."

"You have a lot of work ahead of you" Phoenix said "Engineering took the brunt of our last mission and several have transferred out due to PTSD."

"I see a few who have a low level of it," Victor say, "That is why we have counselors and you do have very qualify ones. If treated in time, they can become great officers of this ship. Seems to me from everyone I have met thus far is the cream of the crop. I helped the other day one Diagnotics Engineer name Lt. Larry Cable with his luggage to Starbase 16. He said he was looking forward to doing some serious fishing. There I picked up the new Diagnostics Engineer Lt. Tonya King."

"Thats fine." Phoenix said, "Just run them through the XO." She smiled at Gary. "I have been told to delegate more." she added. She looked at Victor. "Welcome to the USS Elysium officially Lieutenant."

"Good advice." Gary answered with a smile, "Listen to it." He looked over at Victor, "I'll do a security and background check on them but if your satisfied with them, I don't foresee any problems."

"Thank you Captain," Victor answers looking them both. He was looking forward to this new adventure.
