Having spoken with Lia, Alicia had returned to hers and Savar’s Quarters inviting Gary along enroute to meet her there. She needed to talk to Savar about her offer to Lia but she also needed to explain to Gary so she thought she’d bring them both together to talk. As she arrived back at their quarters she smiled as she walked in the door before walking across to Savar and giving him a kiss. “I hope you don’t mind but I’ve invited Gary over, I need to talk to you both about something.”

"I do not mind at all Alicia." Savar replied returning the kiss. "Would it be impolite to inquire what it is you wish to talk to Commander Taylor and myself about?"

“Of course not” Alicia smiled at her husband. “I was speaking to Lia with regards her lack of enthusiasm towards Connor, it seems she may have problems carrying children of her own. It may have been somewhat presumptuous of me but I offered ... if in the future she needs it, to be a surrogate for her in her later months. The child would be hers and Gary’s I’d just be a vessel to carry their child to term.”

Savar was silent for several seconds before replying, "I believe you are correct when you said you were being presumptuous Alicia. You have involved yourself in a very personal matter and Commander Taylor may not look so kindly on your rather unique offer."

“That’s what I’m afraid of” Alicia gave her husband a concerned look. “It’s just an offer, if he doesn’t like it then I’ll understand.”

"I realize that Alicia. However this is a very personal and intimate matter normally is between two people which you have now made into three." Savar replied gravely.

“That wasn’t my intention” She gave Savar an unhappy look. “I saw a woman in pain and I thought of me having Connor and our baby and I ... felt for her!”

Savar nodded, "I realize that Alicia however the Humans have a saying that I believe fits here. The best laid plans of mice and men as well as counselors often go astray."

Just then the door chime rang leaving Alicia with a feeling in the pit of her stomach that she was about to offend Gary. She certainly hoped not.”

Gary stood outside Savar and Alicia's quarters wondering what they wanted to see him about. Sighing he pressed the chime, knowing he was soon going to find out. Only hearing what it would determine if it was good or bad.

Alicia greeted Gary at the door. “Hi Gary, please come on in.” She stepped aside to let him in knowing Connor would draw his attention. As the door closed she leapt in with both feet. “Gary I ... I made, what Savar is concerned is an error of judgement. It concerns Lia.”

Gary looked at Savar who's face was an inscrutable mask and then back to Alicia. "Lia?" He questioned, "Perhaps you better explain just what you did Alicia." He replied guardedly.

Alicia nodded as she motioned for Gary to sit down. “Lia and I had a talk” She took a seat on the sofa near where Connor was lying on his playmat with his toys. “She explained to me about her problems having a baby, I know you have no immediate plans to have children but I ... I offered to be a surrogate!” She gave Gary an apologetic look. “Not for a whole pregnancy, just for the later stages. It would give the two of you options if you ever decide you want to try.”

Gary looked at her then to Savar and finally back to Alicia. He said nothing. He just blinked and then blinked again. His mouth opened but no words came forth. He closed his mouth and after a few seconds tried again. Mouth open, no sound for several seconds until he managed to gasp, "You did what?"

“I’m sorry!” Alicia looked at Gary. “Lia told me about her problem and I just ...” She paused. “Here I am with Connor and a baby on the way, you have Connor and Lia is struggling to come to terms with not having a child of her own. I felt sorry for her.”

Gary leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes. A few seconds later he opened them and spoke. "I can't believe you spoke to Lia about this. Don't you think I feel bad for her? Don't you think I want her to have a child and be a mother?" He wasn't mad, more like stunned but not mad at least not mad where he was screaming and yelling.

“I know you do” Alicia nodded. “It was just a spur of the moment thing, if it’s not what you both want in the future then that’s fair enough.” She looked at Savar, he was right and she wished she’d spoken to him first about her brainstorm of an idea.

"It's not that simple Alicia. It's not like turning off a light. You've planted a seed in Lia's mind about this and I'm sure she will talk to me and frankly I don't know what I'll say." He looked over to Savar. "You're okay with this? Your wife acting as a vessel for our child?"

"I have reservations about this proposal Commander however was and is Alicia's choice to volunteer to serve as a surrogate." The Vulcan replied evenly.

“If it helps Lia wasn’t that sure about it either.” Alicia sighed as she moved to sit beside Connor on the floor. She felt completely and utterly stupid letting her personal feelings override her common sense. She’d just caused problems for Gary now and she wished she hadn’t said anything at all.”

"Alicia." Gary said calmly, "I don't fault you for wanting to help. It is a wonderful, thoughtful gesture. I just don't know if this is the way to do it." Gary admitted. "I'll wait for Lia to bring it up and go from there." He promised.

“I am sorry!” Alicia wiped her eyes as her emotions got the better of her. Pregnancy hormones didn’t help matters any either. “I feel guilty ...” she looked at Savar. “I bring Connor into your lives, he’s more or less your son and there’s me expecting a baby. Lia has to watch you with Connor and watch me carrying around what she wants. I just ...” She hung her head.

"Look, don't go beating yourself up Alicia. You want to help, I can't fault you for that and don't feel guilty and most importantly please don't cry. I'm convinced Lia will have a child. I can't tell you why I feel that way just that I do. We're all in this together and we will all get through this together by drawing strength from each other."

Alicia nodded and dried her eyes smiling a little as she looked at Connor who was giving her a wide eyed look. She gently picked him up cuddling him which always helped to make her feel better. “When I was first handed Connor I never thought I’d ever feel a true connection to him, but now ... I do. I’d be so lost without him.”

"You do great with him Alicia.. You can see the love you have for him as well as the love he has for you and Savar. You are a true family and when the baby comes even more so." Gary answered as he made funny faces at Connor.

Alicia nodded. “Both of you make wonderful father’s, Connor is lucky to have two father’s and our son or daughter will be equally as lucky to have you Savar.” She gently placed Connor back down to play. “From now on I’ll make the point of running any crazy ideas past one or both of you first.”

"You don't have to run any ideas past me Alicia. Just talk them over with me, Savar so we can make any changes to it so no one's feelings are hurt." Gary replied with a smile.

“Of course” Alicia nodded. “Would you like to spend some time with Connor?”

"Yes, I surely would." Gary replied a smile on his face as he reached for the small child. "And Alicia? Please don't feel bad for wanting to help. It is a wonderful, thoughtful gesture."

Alicia smiled and nodded.

Gary reached a hand out to her, "Furthermore, Lia and I are richer for knowing you and Savar. We couldn't have better friends and Connor couldn't have better parents."
