Phoenix had known, almost innately that something was up. She woke in the middle of the night, her back in pain and sweating profusely. She pushed herself up out of the bed, and bit back a curse. "Avalon," she called the AI as a spasm wracked her form. Gods it hurt.

The AI Appeared. "Captain?"

"Wake my sister... and Doctors Voight and Sthilg... tell them I am on my way to medical..."

"Of course!" The AI vanished.

Phoenix grabbed her robe and shrugged it on as she slid her feet into slippers. As she exited her bedroom, Miran raced out of her's, dressed in her PJ's.

"Pene!"

"Hey.." Phoenix said as she moved to the stairs. "I think the Babies are coming"

Miran stared and then nodded. "Ok.. I will be right there" she darted back to her bedroom to get changed.

By the time Miran caught up with Phoenix, Phoenix was at the turbolift. And Miran was not alone. Phoenix glanced back at her mother as she strode up. "This is silly Penelope. You should be in your cabin, waiting for the midwives."

"We dont have those here. I have two doctors waiting for me in medical Mother. Different place different things." Phoenix replied coldly and entered the lift with Miran slipping under her arm.

Kiana followed them in.

"Medical" Miran said.

The lift moved.

5 minutes later the trio were entering main medical.

Sthilg had been getting some rest in the small rec room when he heard the alert. Jumping to his feet he headed for the room he had set up nudging the Excom nurse to get the flying robot to accompany him. Prepping himself into the red surgical robe the gorn was ready and waiting as Snow greeted the three.

" Greeting if you follow me Doctor Sthilg has bay two ready and prepped for you captain." The blue robot said as calmly as he could.

Kiana frowned at the device but Phoenix merely nodded.

Heather was working late shift and was resting while it was quiet, when she’d received the alert she got herself ready to assist. It felt strange helping with the births when she would be having her own baby in a few more months. She was waiting with Sthilg when the Captain entered the room.

Olivia had worked late getting a few reports done before heading to her quarters for the night to get some sleep. She hadn't been in bed long when the alert came to let her know that she was needed in Sickbay. Olivia got up, dressed, and headed back down to Sickbay to check up on the Captain. Something must be going on with either the Captain or the twins she was carrying. "Captain, I'm guessing your twins have decided to go ahead and make an appearance?," Olivia said as she followed into the room that Lt Cmdr Sthilg had prepared.

"Twins are always early." Phoenix said "Or so I am told"

Heather smiled as she greeted Phoenix and her entourage. “Don’t worry Captain, we’ll take good care of you.” She turned to the others. “Please be aware that Doctor Sthilg will require unimpeded access to his patient and as such you will be required to remain seated at the top of the bedside where you can support Phoenix.” She motioned to already set our seating.

Sthilg in the meantime was helping his captain as he helped her onto the bio bed. " Have the contractionsss ssstarted?" he inquired as he carefully placed her down on the bed.

Phoenix nodded. "Yes, Not sure how long, but they are getting closer together."

Miran tugged their mother to the head of the bed and all but shoved the woman into a chair. She then took up a position out of the way as well.

"True, Captain," Olivia replied, "twins for the most part have been known to come early. Yet a lot of times it can depend on a number of factors as to how early the twins come into the world. Main thing now is to ensure that your twins arrive into this world safely and are healthy."

" Well lie back and relax as bessst as you can and we'll take a look to sssee if everything going okay." the doctor added as he looked over at the excome.

" Sssnow can you get the replicated blood ssstore in case we need it?"

" Roger." was the bots reply before he teleported away.

"Have you been considering names for the babies, Captain?," Olivia asked.

Phoenix nodded "Yes... I have..." she suddenly cursed "ed' i' Seldarine!" as a contraction rippled through her.

"PENELOPE!" Her mother snapped. "Language!"

"OH get real!" Phoenix all but yelled. "You cursed up a storm when you were in labour with Miran!"

" Ladiesss, pleassse Phoenix is allowed to ussse whatever language ssshe wantsss in this sssituation." the gorn said as he looked at the scans everything was going alright for now.

Heather couldn’t help but wonder if she’d be this argumentative when she eventually had her baby. Not that she could blame Phoenix given the pain she was in. As it was Heather had resorted to using a neural inhibitor to block her senses from being overwhelmed by Phoenix’s pain.

Olivia worked to get a few other things ready for the delivery of the twins. "Captain, try your best to remember to breath through the contractions as best you can," Olivia said.

Phoenix nodded and her hands gripped at the bed. "I swear Doc, someone needs to find the remains of Ken Waters so I can strangle them!" She said.

Miran reached out and gripped her sister's shoulder and squeezed.

Things were moving along rather steadily towards a conclusion, the next contraction hit, shortening the time to 6 minutes between.

"6 minutes doctor" Heather looked towards Sthilg. "All readings are stable so far."

The gorn was running through what could go wrong in his head as he looked at the readings. The girl looked like she was coming first, but he was getting worried about the boy's umbilical cord. " Sssnow prep a W.O.R.M I'm i want the boy'sss umbilical cord away from his sssissster." he said camly to the excom who bleeped in confirmation. " Don't worry captain you won't feel a thing." he said ressuringly.

"a--are they alright?" Phoenix asked as she concentrated on breathing.

" Yesss they are Phoenix, but i want to move the boy'sss cord away from hisss sssister before ssshe comes out." the gorn explained as the excome nurse returned with a hypospray. " Good Sssnow can you operate it. " The doctor said as he injected the spray.

" Affirmative." Replied the droid who linked up with the W.O.R.M which looked like a piece of almost transparent silver wire. Using it's momentum he soon had it attached to the cord and began moving it away from the unborn girls head.

" There we go." The doctor said calmly. " Phoenix you're doing great your baby girl going to be here any minute."

Heather was preparing for Phoenix’s daughter’s arrival, bringing over towels and a soft blanket to wrap her young one in once she’d been weighed and checked over. She also had a neonatal unit on hand incase of any problems but that was placed out of sight.

"Doctor, the boy must be born first" Kiana Lalor stated. "Penelope you cannot allow this to happen, Your father will be humiliated!"

"MOTHER" Miran snapped.

"My daughter will be born in whatever order it happens. If it is first then it is first." Phoenix got out.

" I can sssee her head Phoenix. Ssshe'sss almost here. " Sthilg said calmly as he adjusted his artificial arm to allow his fingers to help move the girl's head slightly to aid in her birth. As the small lifeform cries started to fill the room the gorn gently held her as he looked at Heather and with a smile. " Towel" he said calmly as he began to gently wipe her down.

Miran grinned at her sister. "Hey look, you did it." she said.

Phoenix merely gave a nod. "Is.. she ok?" she gasped out as she felt the need to push again.

Heather gave Phoenix a big smile. “She’s beautiful Captain.” She couldn’t help but feel excited now for when she got to meet her own baby.

" Ssshe'sss doing more than okay Phoenix. You can hold her asss sssoon as her brother arrived he looksss like he won't be long. " the reptile doctor said as he handed the noisy little girl to Heather before turning his attention back to the scanner and the unborn child.

Phoenix gritted her teeth. "He seems to be in a hurry indeed" She got out.

Heather took the small bundle to be weighed. “Five and a half pounds exactly” She wrapped Phoenix’s daughter up again before walking back over to the family. “Would anyone like to hold her?”

Kiana shook her head, she highly doubted Penelope would allow her near the children.

Miran also shook her head, but she said "After Phoenix has."

Running through the prayer to the all mother to keep the dark one away from the newborn the doctor returned his attention to the task at hand. Unlike his sister, the boy seemed to want out in a hurry as soon the doctor was gently picking him up and whipping him with a towel as he added his lungs to his sister's crying. " Well done Phoenix. " He said looking at his captain and friend with a warm smile.

Phoenix sagged back on the bio bed and briefly closed her eyes. "thank you"

Heather smiled as she brought Phoenix’s daughter to her. “Here’s your beautiful daughter Captain” She gently handed over the newborn before heading over to Sthilg to take the boy and weigh him. “Five pounds, four ounces. Slightly lighter than his sister but that’s not unusual in twins.” She wrapped him back up and took him over to Phoenix to share in the bonding process with his sister. “Congratulations Captain, I’m honoured to have been a part of welcoming your children into the universe.”

Phoenix looked up from where she had been silently studying the tiny faces. "Thank you Heather. Thank you Sthlig, Olivia"

"What are their names Phoenix?" Miran asked and then she smiled "Liam and Liselle like thier temporal counterparts?"

"No.. Elizabeth Liselle Lalor & William Kenneth Lalor" Phoenix said with a smile.

"Big names for the little ones, but they will grow into them over time," Olivia said. "Main thing is they have their mother to help guide them over time is this big world. Plus, they have everyone here as well to help whenever needed."

The doctor smiled as he made two more slashes on top of his wrist computer. Two more lives brought into this world. " We'll move the three of you into the ward after you've resssted for a while. You've done great my friend."

"Thank you Doctor" Phoenix gave him a warm smile.

Sthilg gave her a smile as he indicated his team to clean and wash up. " It was my pleasssure my friend. Sssnow can you stay and watch the captain and the newborn'sss?" he asked.

" Will do commander." The floating robot said as he moved into a position to monitor the captain and the newborns.

"Do you need us for anything, before we head out of the room for a little while to give you a bit of time to bond with your babies?," Olivia asked.

Miran tugged their mother out of the room with a smile "We will go tell Kyian and see you later Pene. Get some rest."

Phoenix shook her head. "No thank you Olivia," She gave a smile and let her gaze fix on the twins.

Olivia nodded slightly as she took one last look at the twins. "Just call for any of us should you need anything," Olivia replied. "In the mean time you enjoy bonding and spending time with your son and daughter."

Phoenix gave another smile and nodded, her eyes not leaving the small faces.
