Phoenix had chosen to invite all the Senior staff to a breakfast, in the captain's dining room on Deck 5. To be honest, Phoenix rarely used the dining room, as she felt it too formal. But for what she had planned, she figured it was as good a place as any. And far away from her newly arrived family.

She had a breakfast buffet laid out for the senior staff, taking into consideration all dietary requirements. And Ryan had made sure that the items she had wanted were ready and waiting. so just before 7:30, she made her way to the dining room. Arriving first meant she could check the arrangements, which were completed to her specifications and then, she sat down, relieved to be off her feet.

First through the door was the ship's MD. The old lizard had been doing his turn as acting bridge officer on the night shift which had just ended. " Captain i hope your okay." He said as he picked up a plate to start piling up his breakfast.

Phoenix nodded. "Yes I am fine Doc."

Alicia was next to arrive, at seven months she had cut down considerably on her usual workload, letting Tate take over some of the strain so she could relax more. As she walked through the door she politely covered her mouth as she yawned. “Good Morning Captain, Father” She smiled at both before picking up a plate and joining her father choosing her breakfast.

" Good morning my dear. " the old gorn said warmly as he filled his plate with a load of bacon and eggs.

Lia entered and glanced at those already there, "Good morning one and all". She crossed to buffet and placed two slices of toast on her plate, she then scooped up two fried eggs and put one on each slice of toast. Lia then moved to the replicator, "Coffee, milky, hot, two sugars". Collecting all her breakfast together she walked to the table and sat down to enjoy it, "I thought my other half would be here by now".

Alicia stifled another yawn as she walked over to the replicator and got herself the one glass of cola she allowed herself a day. Walking back to the table she took a seat, smiling at Lia. “I’m sure Gary will be here soon, he’s not usually late.”

Naxea entered the room as the aroma of the buffet wonderfully assaulted her nose. "Hello Captain," she greeted before making her way to the buffet and began to load up her plate.

Gary entered a few seconds after Naxea. He was looking at a PaDD. He looked up, "Good morning everyone. Then his eyes settled on Lia and he smiled. "Good morning Mrs. Taylor." he greeted as he walked over to the buffet. He got two slices of bacon, a sausage patty. some eggs and one slice of toast. Then walking over to the replicator he spoke, Orange juice chilled." Getting his juice he walked to the table and sat down next to Lia. "Sleep well Mrs. Taylor?" As he asked the question, he glanced at Alicia, "How's Connor?"

Alicia smiled as she looked towards Gary. “He’s fine, I swear that little boy will eat anything! It doesn’t matter what we put in-front of him he’s always happy to eat it. I don’t even have to bother playing aeroplanes with the spoon!” She grinned. “Ouch!” She looked at her stomach and patted her bump . “I haven’t forgotten about you, no need for you to kick so hard.” She grinned as she looked at Gary. “I swear this little one can’t wait to be out!”

Victor walks in with a smile on his face. Today is his daughter's ninth birthday. It was something about birthdays that always made him happy. It was mainly because it was the one day of the year where we can let someone know they feel special. "Hello everyone. Top of the morning to you all," he said jubilant but in some ways out of character for him. "Today is my daughter's birthday. How fast she is growing and learning."

“Children are very adept at learning” Alicia smiled warmly. “They learn faster than us adults.” She picked up her glass and sipped her drink before placing it down. “I hope she enjoys her birthday.” She picked up her knife and fork and politely started eating her breakfast.

"Morning everyone!" Miraj practically skipped through the doors, pink bunches bouncing around her shoulders, and bare feet scrunching in the carpet. "ooh. Bacon!" She fell on the tray and loaded up like she hadnt eaten in a week.

Arrianna walked in with a particularly wide smile even for her calm and stoic demeanor. "Good morning."

On hearing her husband Lia turned to face him, "Good morning Mr. Taylor. So glad you could join us, and I slept very well". She gave a small giggle as she talked, "May one ask how you slept? And just what is so blasted interesting on that PaDD?"

"Wouldn't miss this for anything." Gary bantered back "And I slept extremely well." A broad smile on his face." He held the PaDD up, "This PaDD?" He asked holding it in front of her, "It's a surprise." He answered cryptically.

Victor responds to Alicia, "Well she had a nice surprise this morning. She received a call from her Aunt Mira. Plus someone else." Victor sees Arianna, "Good morning Commander."

Alicia smiled warmly. “I’m glad she’s enjoying it Victor.” She smiled as she looked around the rest of the arrivals. “Good morning to everyone I haven’t already spoken to.”

Baeryn entered the dinning room with a cup of half drank coffee in her hand. Her thick red hair was pulled back into a bun, still wet from her shower. She smiled making brief eye contact with everyone before making way to the buffet. She loaded a bowl with every juicy piece of fruit available and took a seat.

Once everyone had sat down with their meals, Phoenix merely waved for them to relax and eat. "Once we have all finished I have a few things to announce." She said brightly. "nothing bad." she promised.

Victor liked the sound of that. He made himself a cup of coffee. "Mmmmm. Smells fresh. Sometimes I think we must grow coffee beans." He sat down with his breakfast consisting of eggs, grits, orange juice and of course coffee.

Please let it be going somewhere interesting and fun, Miraj thought, as she took more bacon. Like super-densisity asteroid fields or nebulas in stella ignition. Or supernovae The last few weeks crawling along with no interesting maneuvers or the thrill of Quantum Slipstream had made her restless.

Once everyone was pretty much finished eating, Phoenix stood. "I have some announcements to make. I have been in consultation with a number of people in Starfleet command, and once we have finished here, we will be picking up some scientists and heading towards the Metron Consortium. As most of you are probably not aware, The Federation's first contact with the Metrons was made in 2267 by Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise. Kirk had ordered his ship to pursue a Gorn vessel that had destroyed the colony and outpost on Cestus III. The Metrons forced Kirk and the Gorn captain to fight to the death to decide the outcome of the battle. By 2373, the Metron species was dying out. They lured Captain Benjamin Sisko of the USS Defiant to their space with a false distress call so he could help preserve their knowledge for future generations. Two years later, in 2375, then-Governor Nanietta Bacco of Cestus III negotiated a historic peace treaty between the Federation and the Metrons following an attack on the world by the Gorn Hegemony. Very little has been heard from them since 2379, when Captain Picard informed the Federation that the Q continuum had been in conflict with the Metrons. Starfleet feels that it is time to see if they are still around. And have selected us to go visit them."

She paused. "But, that will be a few weeks away. before then, I have some other things to discus. Lt Commander Sthilg, please stand."

"Captain if your after info on the firssst incident then I hate to disssappoint you, but I was a boy on the other side of gron ssspace at the time. " He said standing up.

Alicia watched her adoptive father and the Captain curiously, she was wondering whether Sthilg was about to get a very well earned surprise or something else.

Phoenix rolled her eyes "Oh shush Doc." She said and picked up a small box off her chair. "Lieutenant Commander Sthilg, it is my extreme pleasure to promote you to full Commander." She waved him towards her. "You are a valued member of my command crew and I hope you remain so for many years to come."

The gorn was silent as he looked at the small box with the new pips within. Compared to his own hand it was even smaller. He gave his family a warm smile as his face light up. " Thank you captain I won't let you down."

Phoenix handed him the box. "That never even crossed my mind." She waited for him to open it, then she took out the pip and stretching onto her toes she changed the pips on his collar.

The gorn lowered his neck to make it easier for her. Being a big lizard did have its problems.

Stepping back, Phoenix held out her hand. "Congratulations Commander"

The gorn gave his friend his standard firm handshake before with the smile still on his face returned to his seat after saluting his captain.

Baeryn started clapping with a bright smile on her face. “Congratulations Commander!”

"Congratulations Doc! It is well earned and you deserve it." Gary added.

Alicia had applauded loudly, grinning like a Cheshire Cat. “Congratulations dad, it’s well deserved.”

"Congratulations, doctor," Naxea commented from her seat after swallowing a slice of bacon.

Once they had settled down, Phoenix grinned and said "Major Naxea please step forward."

Naxea was shocked at hearing her name being called by the captain. What did I do? she thought to herself as she stood and approached the Captain. "Yes Captain?"

"Major, it took me some doing to be able to do this without the Marines in full force backing me up or for some uppity general to take my thunder, but, It is my extreme pleasure to promote you to Lieutenant Colonel." Phoenix said holding out the box she had picked up. "You are wearing the incorrect rank, Colonel."

Alicia smiled at Naxea’s reaction to being called up. “Congratulations Colonel, you deserve it.”

Recovering from her surprise, she nodded. "Thank you, Captain," she said as she shook the Captain's hand.

Phoenix shook her hand and then opened the box, took out the pip. She deftly changed the pips over and stepped back. "Congratulations."

Congratulations to you as well Maj er Colonel. Well deserved." Gary said to the marine.

"Thank you Commander," she replied as she turned to take her seat.

Once Naxea had headed back to her seat, Phoenix let her gaze sweep the table once more. "Lieutenant Kalea-Salik, front and center if you please"

Alicia looked at Phoenix in surprise, it took her a few moments but she was soon standing in-front of Phoenix.

Picking up the last small box, Phoenix held it in her hand. "Lieutenant, after discussions with the command crew of this vessel and the recent events, it is my great pleasure to promote you to Lieutenant Commander."

Alicia stood open mouthed for a few moments before pulling herself together. “I ... Thank you Captain! I’m truly honoured.”

"Congratulations Alicia. You deserve it." Gary spoke up with a smile plastered on his face.

“Thank you Commander” Alicia grinned from ear to ear, like the proverbial Cheshire Cat, as she looked at Gary.

Looking at the three newly promoted, Lia raised her coffee cup. "Well done all three of you, it was long over due and you each deserve it".

“Thank you Lia” Alicia smiled warmly as she looked across at Lia and smiled warmly taking her seat proudly wearing her new rank.

Siora had said rarely a word at this breakfast. She had recently joined the crew and had yet to get to know many of them. However, it was still nice to see the comradery that they showed, the family feeling and the joy of seeing the others get promoted. Her breakfast itself was fairly pleasant and the upcoming mission sounded quite interesting.

Phoenix sat back down saying "Thank you all for your time, as you were"
