1191 words - 2.4 OF Standard Post Measure

Sthilg was downing his second bottle of water which upon the last of the water falling down his gullet. His throat was still parched from the long operation, but as much as he wanted to get another drink he had other priorities.

Stepping into the waiting area where his son-in-law and new granddaughter were sitting he walked over with a warm smile on his face. " Ssshe'sss going to be fine Sssavar. How'sss ssshe doing? " He said looking down at the small being wrapped in blankets.

Savar looked up as the CMO approached, He hadn't been able to see Alicia yet as she was still asleep from surgery. "Doctor." He replied. "She is asleep and is quite content. No doubt she would like to be with her mother. Just as I would like to see Alicia as soon as possible."

" Ssshe's resting at the moment. I'll let you know the moment ssshe wakes up." The gorn said lowing himself slightly to be on more head level with his son-in-law. " May i take a look at her. Jussst to make sssure ssshe'sss okay?" He said gesturing to his new grandchild.

"Certainly." Savar replied as he handed his new born daughter over to it's grandfather. "Please feel free to hold her for as long as you desire. I believe the Human phrase is bond with her."

" I belive it isss." The gorn said as he carefully picked up the small buddle of blankets with all the skill of someone who'd been doing this for hundreds of years. " Hello, little one i'm your grandfather." He said holding her firmly to his chest.

Savar watched as the CMO held the infant. He had to admit the doctor had a way about him when it came to children. Connor loved the Gorn and the time they spent together. Savar was glad for that, he wanted Connor to get to know and love the Gorn as it would help him in the future when he met others who didn't look like him. To see past the physical appearance and look at the person's inner being.

It took a lot of consternation for the gorn doctor to simply hold his granddaughter and not start giving her a health check as was his nature. Still, he gently held the small creature to his chest listening to the soft sound of her breathing.

"She is at ease with you Doctor. She knows you will not harm her." Savar observed.

" You sssure it'sss not that ssshe knowsss her dad near?" The gorn said warmly. " Ssshe has your eyesss."

"I have found that small children are like small animals in that they know instinctively those who are good and kind. Our daughter is demonstrating that now."

" Well, i hope i don't fail thisss little creaturesss trussst." The gorn replied as he bent down to hand her back to her father.

Savar took his daughter back, cradling her in his arms. "I have no doubt that you will always have her trust Doctor."

The old gorn smiled as he opned another water bottle before he took a sip. " Do you think ssshe'd like to sssee her mother?" he asked.

"I am sure that she is like her father and would very much like to see her mother." Savar replied honestly.

The gorn lead the way to the recovery ward where his daughter lay. Her life signs were holding fine as he moved two stools next to her biobed. " Ssshe'sss been through a lot with thisss. Ssshe really lovesss you Sssavar."

Savar was quiet as he came to stand beside Alicia's bed. Cradling their daughter with on hand, with the other he raised hers and kissed it softly. "I really love her as well Doctor." He replied his tone somber, his concern for Alicia evident in his eyes.

" I'm sssure ssshe'll remined you that ssshe doesss as well when ssshe wakesss up." The gorn said as he looked at the adopted daughter who meant so much to him. " Would you like me to take Conner for a while while ssshe recoversss?" He inquired.

Savar nodded. "I would be most grateful if you would. Are you positive you do not mind?. I know he enjoys time with his grandfather."

At that moment, Tate moved toward Alicia's bedside, a freshly replicated raktajino in her hand. She looked sheepish as she spoke to Sthilg and Savar. "I'm sorry, Doctor, I know I should've probably asked you if I could stay with her, but I couldn't bring myself to her after the operation. The duty nurse said it was okay. How are you two?"

The duty nurse was actually a woman Tate had worked with in the course of her advanced medical trainings. Of course, one of the drawbacks of becoming more proficient in areas of medicine Sullivan enjoyed was that she was more knowledgeable of all the things that could go wrong. Still, her concern for the psychological well-being of the crew would never leave her, and at this moment, she was concerned for the Gorn and the new father.

"I am concerned about Alicia." Savar answered, "Though the Doctor tells me that she will be fine. Where Alicia is involved I am not always logical." He admitted. His eyes going to his sleeping wife. "She looks so fragile. " He said not to anyone in particular.

" Hey, your only Vulcan Sssavar." The gorn said placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. " I know your ssspeciesss likesss to pretend you don't have emotionsss, but you're allowed to worry about your wife."

"Indeed Doctor." Savar said turning to face the Gorn. "I worry a great deal about Alicia. She is my soulmate and completes me. I...." He paused as emotions welled behind his mask of placidness. "I would be lost without her, I need her."

" Ssshebe lossst without you as well Sssavar. Talk to her help her find her way back home." The gorn said ressuringly.

"I shall endeavor to do my best. I do not know how receptive Alicia will be to what I have to say." Savar admitted.

" Ssshe'sss empathic remember. Ssshe'll know your here." The doctor said reassuringly.

"Yes Doctor. Thank you for the reminder. I shall tell her how much she means to me." Savar replied softly.

"After that, I'll walk you back to your quarters so you can get some rest," Tate replied. "This has been a roller coaster of a day for you too, and you need your rest." She wanted to reach out to the chief medical officer as well, but figured it was best to do that in private.

Savar nodded to Tate, "That is most agreeable Tate. I thank you for your consideration and concern in staying with Alicia and watching over her.." Savar answered quietly.

" I'll get sssome sssleeep in my office. I have the reportsss to write up anyway." The gorn replied calmly.

"I'll come by in a little while with some refreshments," Tate told the doctor. She understood as a healer, she was used to taking care of everyone else, but she also understood the importance of making sure he had support after this whole ordeal as well.
